Book An Experimental Study of the Mobility of Edge Dislocations in Pure Copper Single Crystals

Download or read book An Experimental Study of the Mobility of Edge Dislocations in Pure Copper Single Crystals written by Kenneth Mark Jassby and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The velocity of selectively-introduced edge dislocations in 99.999 percent pure copper crystals has been measured as a function of stress at temperatures from 66°K to 373°K by means of a torsion technique. The experimental dislocation behavior is consistent with an interpretation on the basis of phonon drag. However, the complete temperature dependence of dislocation mobility could not be closely approximated by the predictions of one or a combination of mechanisms.

Book Continuum Scale Simulation of Engineering Materials

Download or read book Continuum Scale Simulation of Engineering Materials written by Dierk Raabe and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-03-06 with total page 885 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book fills a gap by presenting our current knowledge and understanding of continuum-based concepts behind computational methods used for microstructure and process simulation of engineering materials above the atomic scale. The volume provides an excellent overview on the different methods, comparing the different methods in terms of their respective particular weaknesses and advantages. This trains readers to identify appropriate approaches to the new challenges that emerge every day in this exciting domain. Divided into three main parts, the first is a basic overview covering fundamental key methods in the field of continuum scale materials simulation. The second one then goes on to look at applications of these methods to the prediction of microstructures, dealing with explicit simulation examples, while the third part discusses example applications in the field of process simulation. By presenting a spectrum of different computational approaches to materials, the book aims to initiate the development of corresponding virtual laboratories in the industry in which these methods are exploited. As such, it addresses graduates and undergraduates, lecturers, materials scientists and engineers, physicists, biologists, chemists, mathematicians, and mechanical engineers.

Book Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials

Download or read book Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials written by Volker Weiss and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Army Materials and Mechanics Research Center of Water town, Massachusetts in cooperation with the Materials Science Group of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science of Syracuse University has conducted the Sagamore Army Materials Research Conference since 1954. The main purpose of these conferences has been to gather together over 150 scientists and engineers from academic institutions, industry and government who are uniquely qualified to explore in depth a subject of importance to the Department of Defense, the Army and the scientific community. This volume NONDESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION OF MATERIALS, addresses the areas of x-ray, ultrasonics and other methods of nondestructive testing. We wish to acknowledge the dedicated assistance of Joseph M. Bernier of the Army Materials and Mechanics Research Center and Helen Brown DeMascio of Syracuse University throughout the stages of the conference planning and finally the publication of this book. Book Plastic Deformation in Nanocrystalline Materials

Download or read book Plastic Deformation in Nanocrystalline Materials written by Mikhail Gutkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It seems there is no special need to comment on the term 'nanostructure' now, when one often meets the 'nano' words not only in scientific journals but even in newspapers. Moreover, today they are even to be heard in TV and radio programmes. In academic science, where the terms 'nanostructure' and 'nan otechnology' have been extremely popular since the early 1990s, they have been successfully extended to the sphere of economics and business, and now to politics. This is quite natural because nanostructures and nanotechnolo gies will surely serve as a basis for the most advanced and highest technology production in the nearest and probably also the remote future. Hence, the struggle to create and occupy its markets is already under way. In this respect, it is of great interest to review data on the dynamics of U. S. Federal Goverment expenditure for nanotechnology [1,2]. In the fiscal years 1997 and 2002, expenditure was approximately US$116 and US$ 697 million, respectively. In the fiscal year 2004, the President's request for US federal in vestment in nanoscale science, engineering and technology is about US$ 849 million [2]. The indicative budget allocated to the Thematic Priority enti tled 'Nanotechnologies and nanosciences, knowledge-based multifunctional materials and new production processes and devices' for the duration 2002- 2006 of the sixth EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development is EUR 1300 million [3].

Book Innovative Applications of Nanowires for Circuit Design

Download or read book Innovative Applications of Nanowires for Circuit Design written by Raj, Balwinder and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-11-20 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanowires are an important sector of circuit design whose applications in very-large-scale integration design (VLSI) have huge impacts for bringing revolutionary advancements in nanoscale devices, circuits, and systems due to improved electronic properties of the nanowires. Nanowires are potential devices for VLSI circuits and system applications and are highly preferred in novel nanoscale devices due to their high mobility and high-driving capacity. Although the knowledge and resources for the fabrication of nanowires is currently limited, it is predicted that, with the advancement of technology, conventional fabrication flow can be used for nanoscale devices, specifically nanowires. Innovative Applications of Nanowires for Circuit Design provides relevant theoretical frameworks that include device physics, modeling, circuit design, and the latest developments in experimental fabrication in the field of nanotechnology. The book covers advanced modeling concepts of nanowires along with their role as a key enabler for innovation in GLSI devices, circuits, and systems. While highlighting topics such as design, simulation, types and applications, and performance analysis of nanowires, this book is ideally intended for engineers, practitioners, stakeholders, academicians, researchers, and students interested in electronics engineering, nanoscience, and nanotechnology.
