Book Experimental Study on Diesel Spray with Single and Multiple Injection Under Room Temperature and Low Temperature

Download or read book Experimental Study on Diesel Spray with Single and Multiple Injection Under Room Temperature and Low Temperature written by Ziman Wang and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple-injection strategy can downsize the penetration and boost the atomization, causing higher IMEP and lower emissions. Multiple-injection however is complex, especially under cold condition. The injection characteristics were first studied by applying long-tube measuring instrument. Single and split injection strategies were employed. The flow rate and fuel mass were quantitatively studied. Furthermore, the interaction among splits was linked to dwell interval and injection duration of each split. The influences of temperature were also studied.A microscope and a CCD camera were then employed to study the primary breakup. The regime for the mushroom spray head was analyzed and the dispersion quality was quantified. The breakup-regime study was carried out. Flow regimes in nozzle dominate the breakup. Dwell interval, injection pressure, the number of injections and fuel temperature determined the interaction. The following is the investigation of macroscopic characteristics with high speed imaging technique. The effects of back pressure and the interaction between injections were investigated. The impact of cold fuel temperature was investigated and various correlations were employed to probe the influence of fuel temperature. The velocities and sizes of droplets were finally studied with Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer.

Book Ignition Delay at Various High Pressures An Experimental Study

Download or read book Ignition Delay at Various High Pressures An Experimental Study written by Ritu Gaur and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2019 in the subject Engineering - Chemical Engineering, , course: M.TECH, language: English, abstract: This work is an experimental study for the measurement of ignition delay characteristics of burning fuel sprays in cylindrical combustion chambers. It is carried out on hot air and high pressure. The objective of the study is to investigation the effect of hot air temperature and a well as high pressure on ignition delay of diesel fuel sprays. The effect of blending of n-Pentane with pure diesel was investigated. An experimental set up was design for this purpose with the emphasis on optical method for measurement of ignition delay at various pressures. The results presented here show that ignition delay of diesel fuel spray decreases with increase in the temperature and pressure of hot air. Results also show the effect of methyl group being more dominant at low ignition temperatures and that of alkyl group being more dominant at higher temperature. Blending of n-pentane with diesel fuel, increase its ignition delay at low ignition temperatures. However, as the concentration of blending fuel was increased beyond 30%, the ignition temperature increase. Ignition temperature for 40% pentane blends is much higher that the pure diesel.

Book Automotive Spark Ignited Direct Injection Gasoline Engines

Download or read book Automotive Spark Ignited Direct Injection Gasoline Engines written by F. Zhao and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-02-08 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The process of fuel injection, spray atomization and vaporization, charge cooling, mixture preparation and the control of in-cylinder air motion are all being actively researched and this work is reviewed in detail and analyzed. The new technologies such as high-pressure, common-rail, gasoline injection systems and swirl-atomizing gasoline fuel injections are discussed in detail, as these technologies, along with computer control capabilities, have enabled the current new examination of an old objective; the direct-injection, stratified-charge (DISC), gasoline engine. The prior work on DISC engines that is relevant to current GDI engine development is also reviewed and discussed. The fuel economy and emission data for actual engine configurations have been obtained and assembled for all of the available GDI literature, and are reviewed and discussed in detail. The types of GDI engines are arranged in four classifications of decreasing complexity, and the advantages and disadvantages of each class are noted and explained. Emphasis is placed upon consensus trends and conclusions that are evident when taken as a whole; thus the GDI researcher is informed regarding the degree to which engine volumetric efficiency and compression ratio can be increased under optimized conditions, and as to the extent to which unburned hydrocarbon (UBHC), NOx and particulate emissions can be minimized for specific combustion strategies. The critical area of GDI fuel injector deposits and the associated effect on spray geometry and engine performance degradation are reviewed, and important system guidelines for minimizing deposition rates and deposit effects are presented. The capabilities and limitations of emission control techniques and after treatment hardware are reviewed in depth, and a compilation and discussion of areas of consensus on attaining European, Japanese and North American emission standards presented. All known research, prototype and production GDI engines worldwide are reviewed as to performance, emissions and fuel economy advantages, and for areas requiring further development. The engine schematics, control diagrams and specifications are compiled, and the emission control strategies are illustrated and discussed. The influence of lean-NOx catalysts on the development of late-injection, stratified-charge GDI engines is reviewed, and the relative merits of lean-burn, homogeneous, direct-injection engines as an option requiring less control complexity are analyzed.

Book Modeling Engine Spray and Combustion Processes

Download or read book Modeling Engine Spray and Combustion Processes written by Gunnar Stiesch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The utilization of mathematical models to numerically describe the performance of internal combustion engines is of great significance in the development of new and improved engines. Today, such simulation models can already be viewed as standard tools, and their importance is likely to increase further as available com puter power is expected to increase and the predictive quality of the models is constantly enhanced. This book describes and discusses the most widely used mathematical models for in-cylinder spray and combustion processes, which are the most important subprocesses affecting engine fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. The relevant thermodynamic, fluid dynamic and chemical principles are summarized, and then the application of these principles to the in-cylinder processes is ex plained. Different modeling approaches for the each subprocesses are compared and discussed with respect to the governing model assumptions and simplifica tions. Conclusions are drawn as to which model approach is appropriate for a specific type of problem in the development process of an engine. Hence, this book may serve both as a graduate level textbook for combustion engineering stu dents and as a reference for professionals employed in the field of combustion en gine modeling. The research necessary for this book was carried out during my employment as a postdoctoral scientist at the Institute of Technical Combustion (ITV) at the Uni versity of Hannover, Germany and at the Engine Research Center (ERC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA.

Book Analysis of Diesel Spray Characteristic at High Pressure Injection

Download or read book Analysis of Diesel Spray Characteristic at High Pressure Injection written by Norsyamsul Syazwan Mohd Nuji and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In diesel combustion, spray evaporation and mixture formation during ignition delay period play an important role in ignition, combustion and emission production. Spray evaporation begins immediately after start of fuel injection under the condition of high ambient temperature, in particular, at the middle of the spray. Spray atomization is fast promoted at this region, leading to ignition. The ambient temperature and injection pressures affect the droplets size and the number of droplets. In this project, the fuel will be injected at various injection parameters inside spray chamber in order to study the affect of that parameter towards spray characteristics. An analysis study was performed to investigate the macroscopic spray structure and the spray characteristics of high-pressure injector for the diesel engine. The spray structure and microscopic characteristics of high-pressure diesel injector were investigated when fuel was injected at various injection pressures and different nozzle diameter. Spray developing process, spray cone angle and spray tip penetration were obtained by using the software simulation of ANSYS-FLUENT, and the quantitative result of spray characteristics will be analyzes.
