Book Collective Acceleration of Electrons and Ions in a High Current Relativistic Electron Beam Final Report

Download or read book Collective Acceleration of Electrons and Ions in a High Current Relativistic Electron Beam Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original purpose of this research was an investigation into the use of slow space charge waves on weakly relativistic electron beams for ion acceleration. The work had three main objectives namely, the development of a suitable ion injector, the growth and study of the properties of slow space charge waves on an electron beam, and a combination of the two components parts into a suitable proof of principle demonstration of the wave accelerator. This work focusses on the first two of these objectives.

Book Collective Acceleration of Electrons Using Autoacceleration Process

Download or read book Collective Acceleration of Electrons Using Autoacceleration Process written by Thomas R. Lockner and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A means of collectively accelerating an intense electron beam is demonstrated. A long pulse (800ns) electron beam is propagated through cavity structures which redistributed the energy in the beam such that most of the beam energy is transferred to a short segment (6 nsec) in the tail of the bram; Electrons are accelerated in a two cavity system from 200 KeV to energies of 2.4 - 3.0 MeV at a beam current of approx. 8 kA. The extension of this principle to larger number of cavities appears feasible. (Author).

Book Investigation of Acceleration and Densification of Electrons Utilizing Travelling Magnetic Waves

Download or read book Investigation of Acceleration and Densification of Electrons Utilizing Travelling Magnetic Waves written by K. W. Chen and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental investigation of electron beam physics: naturally occurring and externally driven low frequency (6-500 KHz) diocotron oscillations are observed and the m = 1 rotating structure of these oscillations are measured by using electrostatic probes. Systematic analysis of the circuit system for the generation of a fast-rising pinching magnetic field: a circuit consisted of distributed circuit (transmission line) part and lumped circuit parts included a coil are systematically analyzed from the first principles of circuit. Computer code to calculate expediently the temporal profile of the pinching magnetic is developed. Theoretical study of acceleration of high-energy electron beams by a laser-light through net inverse bremsstrahlung in plasma fields: the absorption of the incident laser photons by net inverse bremsstrahlung can give rise to the dc ponderomotive force whose strength is far greater than the amplitude of the Lorentz force of the laser wave. Study of a soft x-ray free electron laser (FEL) scheme using a two-beam elliptical pill-box wake-field cavity: it is found that the scheme provides sufficient gain as a coherent radiation source down to the x-ray regime. Wake field acceleration research: the theoretical result from the modal analysis developed here agrees with the recent experiment in both profile (shape) and magnitude of the wake potential. Development of a laser photocathode for the generation of high-current short-length electron bunch, and Design and construction of a modified betatron: a modified betatron called the UTA Modified Betatron was constructed. Book A Report on Collective Ion Acceleration Via Space Charge Waves on Intense Relativistic Electron Beams

Download or read book A Report on Collective Ion Acceleration Via Space Charge Waves on Intense Relativistic Electron Beams written by Frederick Mako and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collective methods of ion acceleration using intense relativistic electron beams (IREB) have stimulated a great deal of interest in the past few years. The main virtue of an IREB collective ion accelerator is the high internal electric field strength. The primary drawback has been an insufficient ion energy gain or inadequate scaleability. An extensive study for generating a high quality electron beam has been done and is presented in Section II. In Section III an intense ion injector study was conducted by the method of computer simulation. The last addition to the proposal was a design for producing a toroidal magnetic field. This field will be needed in a future study of high energy and high current electron beams.

Book Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of Electron Beam Acceleration and Submillimeter Wave Generation

Download or read book Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of Electron Beam Acceleration and Submillimeter Wave Generation written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of our research is to investigate the physics as well as to develop the technology of compact submillimeter-wave devices.(1) A revolutionary new device, the gyro-frequency multiplier, which can potentially generate 50 kW at 1-2 Thz by using a 140 GHz gyrotron as its input source, has been tested in our laboratory. (2) Our second-harmonic gyro-TWT amplifier, which is based on our recent marginal stability design (MSD) procedure, yielded extremely good results, including a record setting output power of 207 kW, with 13% efficiency, 16 dB saturated gain, 2% bandwidth and was completely stable. (3) The MSD procedure was also used to design two other stable, high performance amplifiers: a 1 MW, 140 GHz, third harmonic gyro-TWT and a 100 kW CW, 95 GHz, TE(01) gyro-TWT. (4) We have also begun a major new program to develop high power, ultra-wideband prebunched FELs for radar applications using a photoemitted rf gun (5) We have also continued to construct a high-performance 250 kW CW, 33.2 GHz TE(01)TE(02) gyroklystron amplifier and begun a 70 kW CW, 95 GHz, third harmonic, smooth bore gyroklystron amplifier program.
