Book Oxyfuel Combustion for Clean Energy Applications

Download or read book Oxyfuel Combustion for Clean Energy Applications written by Medhat A. Nemitallah and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to be the reference book in the area of oxyfuel combustion, covering the fundamentals, design considerations and current challenges in the field. Its first part provides an overview of the greenhouse gas emission problem and the current carbon capture and sequestration technologies. The second part introduces oxy-fuel combustion technologies with emphasis on system efficiency, combustion and emission characteristics, applications and related challenges. The third part focuses on the recent developments in ion transport membranes and their performance in both oxygen separation units and oxygen transport reactors (OTRs). The fourth part presents novel approaches for clean combustion in gas turbines and boilers. Computational modelling and optimization of combustion in gas turbine combustors and boiler furnaces are presented in the fifth part with some numerical results and detailed analyses.

Book Hydrogen Fumigation on HD Diesel Engine

Download or read book Hydrogen Fumigation on HD Diesel Engine written by Emad Monemian and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The currently reported work was concerned with experimental and numerical evaluation of the potential to partially replace diesel with hydrogen fuel, which continues to attract attention as an alternative longer-term fuel solution. The experimental work was involved with the fumigation of hydrogen on a single cylinder HD diesel engine under two real-world driving conditions at low and mid loads. Highest practical hydrogen substitution ratios could increase indicated efficiency by up to 4.6 and 2.4% while reducing CO2 emissions by 58 and 32% at low and mid loads, respectively. Soot and CO emissions were reduced as more hydrogen was supplied, particularly at low load. The numerical study was made by using two distinct phenomenological models being run in parallel. While, an in-depth evaluation of the unique dual fuel combustion was possible, the arising errors were largely associated with lack of dual fuel burning velocity data, which will remain a key barrier to dual-fuel simulation.

Book Numerical Investigation of Hydrogen Combustion in Boundary Layer for Turbulent Skin Friction Reduction of Hypersonic Applications

Download or read book Numerical Investigation of Hydrogen Combustion in Boundary Layer for Turbulent Skin Friction Reduction of Hypersonic Applications written by Ekin Ecem Baspinar and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the hypersonic flight regime, the flow is turbulent by its nature. Skin friction is greatly increased due to additional turbulent stresses caused by eddy structures in the flow. While skin friction drag accounts for the majority of total drag loss of hypersonic vehicles, reducing skin friction becomes crucial to improve performance. Research shows that combustion of low-density gases in the boundary layer results in reduction of skin friction drag. An analysis of predicting the reduction of skin friction coefficient by combustion of H2 is carried out by Stalker. This analysis is based on the semi-empirical formula of Van Driest for predicting cf for a turbulent flat plate. This thesis aims to validate the results of both analyzes by CFD simulations and provide numerical data for combustion of turbulent boundary layer. A Matlab code is written for both Van Driests theory and Stalkers analysis to solve the equations for the flow conditions input. The analytical data is extracted for Ma=5. ANSYS Fluent simulations are performed with the same flow conditions as given in the code. The analytical data is compared with the numerical results and validated. Different turbulence models are compared for their near-wall modelling performance. Different injection conditions for H2 and the effect on the skin friction reduction efficiency is investigated.*****In the hypersonic flight regime, the flow is turbulent by its nature.
