Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the amount of time spent on computer-assisted instruction in the kindergarten classroom and students' phonemic awareness development. This twenty-eight week study was notable in that it examined the effect of the amount of time student's received computer-assisted instruction in phonemic awareness. The experimental group received thirty minutes of computer-assisted instruction per day while the control group received fifteen minutes of computer-assisted instruction per day. The control and experimental groups were given the PALS-K phonological awareness assessment at the beginning and end of the study. Data analysis indicated no significant differences between the two groups.
