Book Technical Evaluation Report on Fluid Dynamics Panel Specialists Meeting on Wall Interference in Wind Tunnels

Download or read book Technical Evaluation Report on Fluid Dynamics Panel Specialists Meeting on Wall Interference in Wind Tunnels written by Travis W Binion (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fluid Dynamics Panel has been concerned with stimulating activity to understand and quantify the effects of wind tunnel wall interference. Many research endeavors have been undertaken to lean how to correct wind tunnel data or to reduce the wall induced interference. Successful efforts have been largely limited to solid wall, low speed situations. The invention of ventilated wall tunnels did much to reduce the tunnel boundary induced interferences. The adaptive wall concept promises to finally provide a test environment with negligible wall interference. The primary purpose of this meeting was to review and assess the current status of wall interference correction methods and adaptive wall research in three sessions: Solid Wall Wind Tunnels, Ventilated Wall Wind Tunnels, Adaptive Wall Wind Tunnels.

Book Wind Tunnel Wall Correction

Download or read book Wind Tunnel Wall Correction written by B. F. R. Ewald and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report was compiled by an international team of wind tunnel wall correction experts. It presents the present state of the art in wind tunnel wall corrections with a special emphasis given to the description of modern wall correction methods based on Computational Fluid Dynamics. This AGARDograph was planned by the AGARD Fluid Dynamics Panel to be a modern sequel of the successful AGARDograph 109 "Subsonic Wind Tunnel Wall Corrections", which was published in 1966. AGARDogaph 109 is still valid and continues to be used to provide wall corrections in many wind tunnels. Nevertheless, in the thirty two years since the publication of AGARDograph 109, much work has been done on the subject, and the influence of the new tool of numerical fluid dynamics was so strong, that a sequel to AGARDograph 109 was considered to be necessary.

Book Evaluation of Wall Interference Assessment and Correction Techniques

Download or read book Evaluation of Wall Interference Assessment and Correction Techniques written by W. L. Sickles and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaluation of wall interference correction procedures was performed using experimental data. The correction procedures incorporated the use of measured data made on an interface near the tunnel wall and the use of two flow-field solvers, a transonic small disturbance solver and an Euler solver. Interference corrections were calculated for data obtained in Tunnel 1T with varying amounts of interference. Results are given for representative subcritical, mildly supercritical, and supercritical flows. Calculated interference levels are compared to experimental interference levels between the interference-free reference data from Tunnel 4T and the data with interference from Tunnel 1T. Keywords: Wall interference; Transonic testing; Wind tunnel data; Flight performance prediction; Assessment techniques; Correction techniques. (JHD).

Book Description and Evaluation of an Interference Assessment for a Slotted Wall Wind Tunnel

Download or read book Description and Evaluation of an Interference Assessment for a Slotted Wall Wind Tunnel written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-10-27 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind-tunnel interference assessment method applicable to test sections with discrete finite-length wall slots is described. The method is based on high order panel method technology and uses mixed boundary conditions to satisfy both the tunnel geometry and wall pressure distributions measured in the slotted-wall region. Both the test model and its sting support system are represented by distributed singularities. The method yields interference corrections to the model test data as well as surveys through the interference field at arbitrary locations. These results include the equivalent of tunnel Mach calibration, longitudinal pressure gradient, tunnel flow angularity, wall interference, and an inviscid form of sting interference. Alternative results which omit the direct contribution of the sting are also produced. The method was applied to the National Transonic Facility at NASA Langley Research Center for both tunnel calibration tests and tests of two models of subsonic transport configurations. Book Investigation of Correction Methods for Interference Effects in Open Jet Wind Tunnels

Download or read book Investigation of Correction Methods for Interference Effects in Open Jet Wind Tunnels written by Oliver Fischer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oliver Fischer analyzes the interference effects occurring in free-stream wind tunnels as well as their correction and simulation. With this work, the investigated correction method and the comparability of its results as well as flow simulation results are improved. The model wind tunnel of the IVK, University of Stuttgart, is simulated in various wind tunnel configurations. The application of a correction procedure to the corresponding experimental data from the model wind tunnel of the IVK is examined. These correction results are directly comparable with interference-free simulation results and thus allow a conclusion on the functionality of the correction method. Based on these findings, this thesis proposes a modification of the correction method that improves the comparability of corrected experimental results and CFD simulations in idealized test conditions. About the Author Oliver Fischer works as an engineer in aerodynamics development for a renowned German automobile manufacturer.
