Book Evaluating the Nursing Curriculum s Alignment with the National Certification Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses NCLEX RN

Download or read book Evaluating the Nursing Curriculum s Alignment with the National Certification Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses NCLEX RN written by Mary T. Parsons and published by ProQuest. This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to review the core nursing curriculum at Salisbury University, and to compare it to the test plan for the licensure exam for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN). It involved collecting data from three sources. First, NCLEX-RN test results were reviewed for three graduating cohorts of nursing students (2004, 2005, and 2006). Second, selected course documents including syllabi, objectives, and comprehensive final exams were reviewed. Third, Nursing faculty were surveyed about how they chose their content for their courses and for the questions on the final exams. The curriculum data was analyzed in relation to the NCLEX-RN test plan to determine the extent of content alignment. Gaps in content coverage that corresponded to areas of graduates' weak performance were highlighted, and recommendations were made for increasing curriculum coverage in those areas. It was also recommended that faculty members review the NCLEX-RN Reports highlights on a yearly basis, and use the data to guide curriculum development efforts. This will ultimately result in improved curriculum alignment with the NCLEX-RN, and improved graduates' performance on the NCLEX-RN.

Book Identifying Predictors of Success for the Computerized NCLEX RN in Associate Degree Nursing Graduates

Download or read book Identifying Predictors of Success for the Computerized NCLEX RN in Associate Degree Nursing Graduates written by Tina Marie Kline and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Failure of the NCLEX-RN is a significant problem with a farther reaching impact than just the individual student and program of nursing. Every student who is unsuccessful on the exam is one less registered nurse to provide patient care; therefore, increasing NCLEX-RN pass rates is essential to addressing the ongoing nursing shortage. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship among nursing curriculum grade point average, performance in the biological science courses, performance in the theory portion of fundamentals and medical-surgical nursing courses, performance on the Assessment Technologies Institute RN comprehensive predictor examination, and role transition setting and success on the NCLEX-RN examination. Approval was obtained from the governing institution and community college's internal review board, to conduct a record review of the graduating nursing classes. Logistical regression was then performed to identify significant predictors of NCLEX success, including ACT and COMPASS reading scores, biological science GPA, performance in medical-surgical nursing courses, and ATI comprehensive predictor performance. Statistical analysis indicated that ACT/COMPASS reading scores, nursing curriculum and biological science GPA, and ATI comprehensive predictor performance were significant predictors of NCLEX-RN performance.

Download or read book Evaluation of a Capstone Course Revision for NCLEX RN Preparation in an Accelerated Baccalaureate of Nursing Program written by Chikaodili Umeweni and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many nursing programs utilize standardized predictor exams to maintain high first-time NCLEX-RN pass rates for their students. Since these standardized exams are highly predictive of first-time NCLEX-RN pass rates, preparing students to take these exams during their final term of nursing school has become of utmost import. The purpose of this study was to evaluate student outcomes following restructure of a capstone course designed to prepare accelerated Baccalaureate Nursing students for the NCLEX-RN exam utilizing the Knowledge, Anxiety and Test-taking Strategy (KATTS) framework. Capstone course outcome, NCLEX-RN pass rates, time to licensure and course evaluations were compared for two cohorts before (2014 cohort; N= 117) and after (2016 cohort; N=152) the course redesign; t-tests and chi-squared tests were conducted for significant differences between the two cohorts and qualitative analysis was performed on comments from anonymous end-of-course surveys. Results show increased capstone course pass rates (97.4% vs 83.8%; p

Book Predictive Factors of Next Generation National Council Licensure Examination Success in a Baccalaureate Nursing Program

Download or read book Predictive Factors of Next Generation National Council Licensure Examination Success in a Baccalaureate Nursing Program written by and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the retrospective quantitative cohort regression study was to identify predictors of success on the Next Generation National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NGN-NCLEX-RN) and determine if changes are needed in the nursing program curriculum. Nurse educators and nursing administration are responsible for aligning the nursing curriculum with the accreditation organization's standards, adhering to the state Boards of Nursing's rules and regulations, and graduating safe and competent entry-level nurses. The most significant nursing program outcome and the key indicator of program effectiveness is the National Council of Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) first attempt passing rate. The study collected archived records of students' Elsevier Adaptive Quizzing (EAQ) scores, the highest Health Education Systems Incorporated (HESI) program exit examination scores, and the cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) to determine if these variables predicted success on the NGN-NCLEX-RN. Linda Caputi's Think Like Nurse Model provides the framework for this study to measure prelicensure undergraduate students' ability to think and learn according to the cognitive processes necessary for passing the NGN-NCLEX-RN on the first attempt. This retrospective quantitative cohort regression study design had 28 participants who graduated from a prelicensure nursing program in the southeastern United States. The participants completed EAQ assignments and the HESI exit examination during their last semester, and their cumulative GPA was available before taking the NGN-NCLEX-RN. The results show the student's highest HESI program exit examination, the EAQ score, and cumulative GPA were not statistically sufficient predictors of passing the NGN-NCLEX-RN.

Book Making Sense of Nursing Faculty Classroom Experiences They Believe Supportive of National Council Licensing Exam Registered Nurse NCLEX RN Success

Download or read book Making Sense of Nursing Faculty Classroom Experiences They Believe Supportive of National Council Licensing Exam Registered Nurse NCLEX RN Success written by Margaret DeLorenzo and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a result of an aging population, aging baby boomer nurses, and an increased demand for baccalaureate prepared nurses, the demand for future nurses is expected to reach epic proportions. These major changes in the health care system will require profound changes in nursing education as faculty aim to improve teaching approaches in preparing student nurses for practice. In addition, the accrediting body for BSN programs has set minimum required pass rates for first time NCLEX-RN test takers. Inadequate and declining pass rates have the potential to impact nursing programs, stakeholders, and the health care system as a whole. The purpose of this study was to explore nursing faculty sense-making of classroom experiences they believe supportive of NCLEX-RN success. A qualitative approach was used for this study, which followed the research tradition of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. This approach allowed the researcher to explore, analyze, and interpret nursing faculty sense-making of lived experiences in the classroom. Data was gathered from participants through use of semi-structured interviews. Super-ordinate themes emerging from the data included; responsibility for student success, affected by application of teaching practices, and motivated by the NCLEX-RN. Findings revealed faculty reliance on student participation in learning as well as a strong faculty desire for student success. Faculty were responsive to diverse teaching practices, energized by integration of knowledge, and experienced uncertainty around NCLEX-RN preparation. In addition, faculty were encouraged by their dedication to NCLEX-RN style questioning and energized to align course content with the NCLEX-RN test plan. Findings from this study add to the current literature around the NCLEX-RN, and may provide nursing faculty, administrators, accrediting bodies, and other stakeholders with insight into valued teaching practices supportive of NCLEX-RN success. Several recommendations for practice and further research are included in the report of findings.

Book An Analysis of First time NCLEX RN Exam Pass Rates of Associate Degree Nursing Students at a Northeastern Minnesota Community College

Download or read book An Analysis of First time NCLEX RN Exam Pass Rates of Associate Degree Nursing Students at a Northeastern Minnesota Community College written by Jennifer Ann St. Arnold and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this retrospective quantitative study was to describe and compare the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) first-time pass rates of students who participated in an optional NCLEX-RN review course with those who did not among 2012-2014 Associate Degree Nurse (ADN) graduates from a northeastern Minnesota community college. The successful completion of the ADN program at a northeastern Minnesota community college and participation in an optional NCLEX-RN exam review course were the factors used to describe and determine dependence with NCLEX-RN exam first time pass rates. A non-probability convenience sample of 220 ADN graduates was used, and the data from this sample were then analyzed using an open source software called R (R Development Core Team, 2008).The statistical technique used was the Fisher's Exact Test. The research variable was the pass rate of students taking the NCLEX-RN exam. There were no statistically significant findings related to age, ethnicity, cumulative GPA, or gender on the passing rate of the NCLEX-RN exam. The researcher concluded that further research is needed to determine whether other factors including program entrance exam criteria, foundational nursing course grades, the student's first language, or the amount of time between graduation and taking the NCLEX-RN exam affect the outcome.
