Book An Evaluation of Some Current Practices for Short time Elevated temperature Tensile Tests of Metals

Download or read book An Evaluation of Some Current Practices for Short time Elevated temperature Tensile Tests of Metals written by Charles R. Manning and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of different testing practices on the short-time elevated-temperature tensile properties was determined for 2024-T3 aluminum-alloy, HM21A-T8 and HK31A-H24 magnesium-alloy, and 12 MoV stainless-steel sheet. Tests were made under single strain-rate and single head-speed conditions. A dual strain-rate test was also included. An evaluation of the effects of these practices is given for the tensile and yield strengths, the elongation in 2 inches, and the uniform elongation. The need for a uniform testing practice is demonstrated. Recommended practices suggested by different organizations are included.

Book Evaluation of Tensile Properties Using a TEM Disk Size Specimen

Download or read book Evaluation of Tensile Properties Using a TEM Disk Size Specimen written by Y. Higo and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attempting to miniaturize mechanical specimens is certainly not new. In fusion reactor material development, limited space in the test reactor and the dose to personnel in the post-irradiation state dictates that the specimen size be reduced without reducing the accuracy of the test. A four-point bend test on TEM disk specimens (0.3 mm in thickness and 3 mm in diameter) was carried out to evaluate tension test parameters. The bending load-deflection records obtained from the miniature specimen were interpreted with a large-scale deflection bending analysis. The tensile yield strength and the ultimate tensile strength of both a 316L-type stainless steel and a 7075 T6 aluminum (Al) alloy obtained from the miniature four-point bend test agreed well with standard tension test results. A gripping system for tension testing of the TEM-size specimens was also developed. The ultimate tensile strength results of two stainless steels agreed well with those obtained from standard-size specimens; however, the tensile yield strength could not be determined.

Book Full Field Measurements and Identification in Solid Mechanics

Download or read book Full Field Measurements and Identification in Solid Mechanics written by Michel Grediac and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-12-17 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely book presents cutting-edge developments by experts in the field on the rapidly developing and scientifically challenging area of full-field measurement techniques used in solid mechanics – including photoelasticity, grid methods, deflectometry, holography, speckle interferometry and digital image correlation. The evaluation of strains and the use of the measurements in subsequent parameter identification techniques to determine material properties are also presented. Since parametric identification techniques require a close coupling of theoretical models and experimental measurements, the book focuses on specific modeling approaches that include finite element model updating, the equilibrium gap method, constitutive equation gap method, virtual field method and reciprocity gap method. In the latter part of the book, the authors discuss two particular applications of selected methods that are of special interest to many investigators: the analysis of localized phenomenon and connections between microstructure and constitutive laws. The final chapter highlights infrared measurements and their use in the mechanics of materials. Written and edited by knowledgeable scientists, experts in their fields, this book will be a valuable resource for all students, faculties and scientists seeking to expand their understanding of an important, growing research area

Book An Evaluation of Equipment and Procedures for Tensile Bond Testing of Concrete Repairs

Download or read book An Evaluation of Equipment and Procedures for Tensile Bond Testing of Concrete Repairs written by Alexander M. Vaysburd and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the durability of repaired concrete structures is a primary objective of any repair project, then every effort should be made to ensure adequate bonding between the repair and the existing concrete substrate. A total of 257 partial-depth cores in 77 experimental repairs were tested in Florida, Illinois, and Arizona in order to evaluate the effect of material properties and environmental conditions on the bond between repair and concrete substrate. Three pull-off testing devices were used to determine the bond strengths for each of the experimental repairs. In addition, the testing devices themselves were evaluated by analyzing the magnitude and relative precision of the pull-off strengths, modes of failure, and ease of use in an effort to identify a reliable and practical device for determining in situ tensile bond. The optimum depth of core drilling into the existing substrate was determined by comparing theoretical finite element analysis of failure zone stress distribution with measured test results.

Book Evaluation of a Ring Test for Determining the Tensile Strength of Mortars and Concrete

Download or read book Evaluation of a Ring Test for Determining the Tensile Strength of Mortars and Concrete written by George C. Hoff and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is to report the results of an evaluation of a specific type of test procedure, the ring tensile test, which results in a measure of the tensile strength of concrete. No attempt is made to document the many references to and discussions of specific values of 'tensile strength' and the techniques used to obtain them by other investigators over the years with the exception of the work involving the ring tensile test. Some general comments about tensile strength testing are made to provide the reader with the background which ultimately prompted the development of the ring test for concrete. (Author).

Book Handbook of Tensile Properties of Textile and Technical Fibres

Download or read book Handbook of Tensile Properties of Textile and Technical Fibres written by A. R. Bunsell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-10-19 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fibres usually experience tensile loads whether they are used for apparel or technical structures. Their form, which is long and fine, makes them some of the strongest materials available as well as very flexible. This book provides a concise and authoritative overview of tensile behaviour of a wide range of both natural and synthetic fibres used both in textiles and high performance materials. After preliminary chapters that introduce the reader to tensile properties, failure and testing of fibres, the book is split into two parts. Part one examines tensile properties and failure of natural fibres, such as cotton, hemp, wool and silk. Part two discusses the tensile properties and failure of synthetic fibres ranging from polyamide, polyester and polyethylene fibres to carbon fibres. Many chapters also provide a general background to the fibre, including the manufacture, microstructure, factors that affect tensile properties as well as methods to improve tensile failure. With its distinguished editor and array of international contributors, Handbook of tensile properties of textile and technical fibres is an important reference for fibre scientists, textile technologists and engineers, as well as those in academia. Provides an overview of tensile behaviour of a wide range of both natural and synthetic fibres Examines tensile characterisitics, tensile failure of textiles fibres and factors that affect tensile properties Discusses mircostructures and each type of fibre from manufacture to finished product

Book Evaluation of Tensile Tests for Adhesive Bonds

Download or read book Evaluation of Tensile Tests for Adhesive Bonds written by GP. Anderson and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tensile adhesion tests have been used for many years as a quality control tool and to quantify the strength of a bond. The quantity generally reported as the tensile strength is the breaking force per unit bond area (average axial stress at the maximum load). The stress distribution in tensile adhesion tests, as discussed in this report, depends upon many factors such as material properties of the adherend and adhesive and the ratio of bond area to adhesive thickness. Test data are presented which demonstrate that the debond initiation point changes from the bond edge to the center of the bond area as the adhesive thickness is decreased. These test data confirm a prior prediction by the authors.

Book Evaluation of Ring Tensile Test Results A Semiempirical Approach

Download or read book Evaluation of Ring Tensile Test Results A Semiempirical Approach written by K. S. Sivaramakrishnan and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ring specimens of 5-mm width cut from Zircaloy-2 cladding of reactor operated fuel elements that had experienced 5000 to 15 000 MWD/T of fuel burnup were subjected to ring tensile testing. The true stress-true strain data points up to the onset of necking from the individual load-elongation curves of these specimens were used as input data in Voce's equation. The results revealed that the uniform elongation (UE) values generated using Voce's equation were within (UE - 2)% of the experimental percent uniform elongation (UE%). The corresponding ultimate tensile strength values were within ±1%.
