Book City Extensions

Download or read book City Extensions written by James A. Sobey and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis examines a process for future city growth in Denver, Colorado. Its objective is to develop a model by which future expansion of the city might build qualities of continuity and identity between adjacent sections of the city and the Platte River through the revitalization and extension of network edges. Present growth trends in Denver have altered traditional city network relationships. The exchange between movement systems, building forms and landscape has deteriorated resulting in the isolation of the pedestrian edges which once made Denver a city of vitality. This thesis begins with observations of a specific problem of discontinuity within Denver's Platte River Valley. It then outlines goals for future growth. The third section defines the task of seaming together valley districts. The fourth section documents a method for analysis and extension. The last section includes strategies and design projections to illustrate how districts of the city might grow, with examples of extensions from a regional size, to examinations in more detail of landscape network and building relationships.

Book Cost Benefit Analysis of Planned Urban Development

Download or read book Cost Benefit Analysis of Planned Urban Development written by Ehtesham Husain Abbasi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growth and development is a continuous process of every dynamic society. The population grows, the standard of living increases and so rises the expectations. The rural masses often tend to be influenced by the economic 'demonstration effect' and shift to urban areas while the lower middle class or the middle class expands usually on the outer peripheral of the city /town areas. This is a continuous process leading to creation /expansion of newer urban areas. This expansion should be ideally planned, equipped with basic civic/economic amenities namely drainage, sewage, road, market and parks etc. The planned and unplanned areas have different effects on the Cost-Benefit model. The positive effects of planning an area are manifold while leaving an area unplanned or not investing in an area has enormous negative impacts. Interestingly, findings for Indian cities can be replicable in other South Asian Nations namely Pakistan and Bangladesh (due to geographic, demographic and sociological similarities).

Book Cost Benefit Analysis

Download or read book Cost Benefit Analysis written by K. Puttaswamaiah and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is increasingly concerned with bridging the developmental gap between the developed and developing countries. With the establishment of a number of institutions for funding the projects including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and many other agencies, the need to develop mechanisms to assess economically viable projects is more important than ever. The Social-Cost Benefit Analysis (SCBA) is an important technique used in formulating, appraising, and evaluating projects. It is a facet of applied welfare economics which is increasingly being used to identify and assess public projects in both developing and developed countries. This volume presents a comprehensive view of cost-benefit analysis in its theoretical and applied dimensions. Both theory and case studies are presented. The theoretical setting for Cost-Benefit Analysis is established by the first five chapters-"Spatial General Equilibrium and Cost-Benefit Analysis," by David M. Newbery; "Optimum Growth Theory and Social Time Preference: A Computerized Mathematical Modeling Exercise to Choose a Social Discount Rate," by Sardar M. N. Islam; "A Theoretical Inquiry of the Axiomatic Consistency of Distributional Weights used in Cost-Benefit Analysis," by Giuseppe Munda; "The Output Gap: Measurement, Related Concepts, and Policy Implications," by Parameswar Nandakumar; and "A Methodological Comparison of Theoretical Approaches in Dichotomous Choice Contingent Valuation," by John C. Whitehead. This book will be useful as a reference text by professors and students in project appraisal classes and will be of equal value to analysts, planners, and interested general readers. K. Puttaswamaiah is the senior director, Planning Department, Government of Karnataka State, India. He has written or edited fourteen books. He is the founding editor of the Indian (now International) Journal of Applied Economics & Econometrics.
