This book was released on 1978 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this report is to present a preliminary estimate of the potential contribution of forestry biomass to Canada's energy requirements to the year 2025. It begins with a review of forestry biomass conversion technologies, from which three reference cases have been formulated to facilitate discussion: direction conversion of wood to electricity in a 50-megawatt boiler; low-Btu gasification of wood combined with on-site utilization; and wood gasification combined with methanol production from the resulting synthesis gas. The report then estimates the total resource of forest biomass in Canada and evaluates sources of supply, including forest residues and energy plantations. It discusses principal uses for the different types of energy (steam, electricity, fuels) that can be produced from forest biomass, the factors affecting implementation of forest biomass energy technologies (including institutional constraints and environmental and social impacts), and the costs of energy produced by the three reference cases.

Book Springer Handbook of Wood Science and Technology

Download or read book Springer Handbook of Wood Science and Technology written by Peter Niemz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-01 with total page 2064 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides an overview on wood science and technology of unparalleled comprehensiveness and international validity. It describes the fundamental wood biology, chemistry and physics, as well as structure-property relations of wood and wood-based materials. The different aspects and steps of wood processing are presented in detail from both a fundamental technological perspective and their realisation in industrial contexts. The discussed industrial processes extend beyond sawmilling and the manufacturing of adhesively bonded wood products to the processing of the various wood-based materials, including pulp and paper, natural fibre materials and aspects of bio-refinery. Core concepts of wood applications, quality and life cycle assessment of this important natural resource are presented. The book concludes with a useful compilation of fundamental material parameters and data as well as a glossary of terms in accordance with the most important industry standards. Written and edited by a truly international team of experts from academia, research institutes and industry, thoroughly reviewed by external colleagues, this handbook is well-attuned to educational demands, as well as providing a summary of state-of-the-art research trends and industrial requirements. It is an invaluable resource for all professionals in research and development, and engineers in practise in the field of wood science and technology.

Book Life Cycle Sustainability Analysis Sub project of the Woody Biomass Innovative Project

Download or read book Life Cycle Sustainability Analysis Sub project of the Woody Biomass Innovative Project written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This preliminary study addresses the life cycle sustainability analysis subproject of the Woody Biomass Innovative Project, which proposed to assess the future bioenergy potential for British Columbia from a broad perspective that includes energy, greenhouse gas considerations and climate change, impacts on soil and biodiversity, and socio-economic sensitivities and to consider the need for guidance and policy development. This preliminary study reviews currently available assessment methodologies and proposes a framework for a life cycle sustainability assessment of current and emerging wood-based biofuel products used in three sectors (i.e., residential, institutional, and industrial) in British Columbia. In addition, this study defines data requirements and data availability for a detailed assessment, and outlines the possible policy implications that might be drawn from a detailed study."--Document.
