Book Highway Travel Time Estimation With Data Fusion

Download or read book Highway Travel Time Estimation With Data Fusion written by Francesc Soriguera Martí and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-30 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a simple, innovative approach for the measurement and short-term prediction of highway travel times based on the fusion of inductive loop detector and toll ticket data. The methodology is generic and not technologically captive, allowing it to be easily generalized for other equivalent types of data. The book shows how Bayesian analysis can be used to obtain fused estimates that are more reliable than the original inputs, overcoming some of the drawbacks of travel-time estimations based on unique data sources. The developed methodology adds value and obtains the maximum (in terms of travel time estimation) from the available data, without recurrent and costly requirements for additional data. The application of the algorithms to empirical testing in the AP-7 toll highway in Barcelona proves that it is possible to develop an accurate real-time, travel-time information system on closed-toll highways with the existing surveillance equipment, suggesting that highway operators might provide their customers with such an added value with little additional investment in technology.

Book The Evolution of Travel Time Information Systems

Download or read book The Evolution of Travel Time Information Systems written by Margarita Martínez-Díaz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-21 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the estimation of travel time in a very comprehensive and exhaustive way. Travel time information is and will continue to be one key indicator of the quality of service of a road network and a highly valued knowledge for drivers. Moreover, travel times are key inputs for comprehensive traffic management systems. All the above-mentioned aspects are covered in this book. The first chapters expound on the different types of travel time information that traffic management centers work with, their estimation, their utility and their dissemination. They also remark those aspects in which this information should be improved, especially considering future cooperative driving environments.Next, the book introduces and validates two new methodologies designed to improve current travel time information systems, which additionally have a high degree of applicability: since they use data from widely disseminated sources, they could be immediately implemented by many administrations without the need for large investments. Finally, travel times are addressed in the context of dynamic traffic management systems. The evolution of these systems in parallel with technological and communication advancements is thoroughly discussed. Special attention is paid to data analytics and models, including data-driven approaches, aimed at understanding and predicting travel patterns in urban scenarios. Additionally, the role of dynamic origin-to-destination matrices in these schemes is analyzed in detail.

Book Enhanced Phase Locked Loop Structures for Power and Energy Applications

Download or read book Enhanced Phase Locked Loop Structures for Power and Energy Applications written by Masoud Karimi-Ghartema and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-03-21 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Filling the gap in the market dedicated to PLL structures for power systems Internationally recognized expert Dr. Masoud Karimi-Ghartemani brings over twenty years of experience working with PLL structures to Enhanced Phase-Locked Loop Structures for Power and Energy Applications, the only book on the market specifically dedicated to PLL architectures as they apply to power engineering. As technology has grown and spread to new devices, PLL has increased in significance for power systems and the devices that connect with the power grid. This book discusses the PLL structures that are directly applicable to power systems using simple language, making it easily digestible for a wide audience of engineers, technicians, and graduate students. Enhanced phase-locked loop (EPLL) has become the most widely utilized architecture over the past decade, and many books lack explanation of the structural differences between PLL and EPLL. This book discusses those differences and also provides detailed instructions on using EPLL for both single-phase applications and three-phase applications. The book’s major topics include: A basic look at PLL and its standard structure A full explanation of EPLL EPLL extensions and modifications Digital implementation of EPLL Extensions of EPLL to three-phase structures Dr. Karimi-Ghartemani provides basic analysis that helps readers understand each of the structures presented without requiring complicated mathematical proofs. His book is filled with illustrated examples and simulations that connect theory to the real world, making Enhanced Phase-Locked Loop Structures for Power and Energy Applications an ideal reference for anyone working with inverters, rectifiers, and related technologies.

Book Stochastic Evolutions of Dynamic Traffic Flow

Download or read book Stochastic Evolutions of Dynamic Traffic Flow written by Xiqun (Michael) Chen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-18 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reveals the underlying mechanisms of complexity and stochastic evolutions of traffic flows. Using Eulerian and Lagrangian measurements, the authors propose lognormal headway/spacing/velocity distributions and subsequently develop a Markov car-following model to describe drivers’ random choices concerning headways/spacings, putting forward a stochastic fundamental diagram model for wide scattering flow-density points. In the context of highway onramp bottlenecks, the authors present a traffic flow breakdown probability model and spatial-temporal queuing model to improve the stability and reliability of road traffic flows. This book is intended for researchers and graduate students in the fields of transportation engineering and civil engineering.

Book Estimation of Cylinder Wise Combustion Features with Combined Processing of Engine Speed and Cylinder Pressure Regarding Torsional Deflections of the Crankshaft

Download or read book Estimation of Cylinder Wise Combustion Features with Combined Processing of Engine Speed and Cylinder Pressure Regarding Torsional Deflections of the Crankshaft written by Christoph Kallenberger and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2008 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rising fuel prices, stricter emission standards, as well as the increasing demands from consumers for driving comfort, all motivate the rapid development and improvement of combustion engine control systems. New concepts, such as variable valve timing systems, downsizing in combination with supercharging systems and new injection systems bring significant advantages for engines, however they result in increased system complexity. In order to provide optimal operating conditions for these concepts, advanced control and diagnosis strategies are necessary. They require feedback information from the combustion chamber. The in-cylinder pressure has a close relationship to the thermodynamics of a combustion and, consequently, is suited to this purpose. In-cylinder pressure sensors are already widely used in today's research engine test beds. However, a fully-equipped engine with pressure sensors is too expensive for series production. This motivates this work to investigate a cost efficient approach using only one in-cylinder pressure sensor in combination with the engine speed sensor. The engine speed signal contains the cylinder-wise combustion information and is measured at the crankshaft. Torsional defections at the crankshaft distort the engine speed signal. This work shows how to compensate this effect in order to provide highly accurate combustion features for engine control and diagnosis.
