Book Infertility

Download or read book Infertility written by Robin E. Jensen and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2016-09-29 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the arguments, appeals, and narratives that have defined the meaning of infertility in the modern history of the United States and Europe. Throughout the last century, the inability of women to conceive children has been explained by discrepant views: that women are individually culpable for their own reproductive health problems, or that they require the intervention of medical experts to correct abnormalities. Using doctor-patient correspondence, oral histories, and contemporaneous popular and scientific news coverage, Robin Jensen parses the often thin rhetorical divide between moralization and medicalization, revealing how dominating explanations for infertility have emerged from seemingly competing narratives. Her longitudinal account illustrates the ways in which old arguments and appeals do not disappear in the light of new information, but instead reemerge at subsequent, often seemingly disconnected moments to combine and contend with new assertions. Tracing the transformation of language surrounding infertility from “barrenness” to “(in)fertility,” this rhetorical analysis both explicates how language was and is used to establish the concept of infertility and shows the implications these rhetorical constructions continue to have for individuals and the societies in which they live.

Book Freezing Fertility

Download or read book Freezing Fertility written by Lucy van de Wiel and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2020-12-15 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcomed as liberation and dismissed as exploitation, egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation) has rapidly become one of the most widely-discussed and influential new reproductive technologies of this century. In Freezing Fertility, Lucy van de Wiel takes us inside the world of fertility preservation—with its egg freezing parties, contested age limits, proactive anticipations and equity investments—and shows how the popularization of egg freezing has profound consequences for the way in which female fertility and reproductive aging are understood, commercialized and politicized. Beyond an individual reproductive choice for people who may want to have children later in life, Freezing Fertility explores how the rise of egg freezing also reveals broader cultural, political and economic negotiations about reproductive politics, gender inequities, age normativities and the financialization of healthcare. Van de Wiel investigates these issues by analyzing a wide range of sources—varying from sparkly online platforms to heart-breaking court cases and intimate autobiographical accounts—that are emblematic of each stage of the egg freezing procedure. By following the egg’s journey, Freezing Fertility examines how contemporary egg freezing practices both reflect broader social, regulatory and economic power asymmetries and repoliticize fertility and aging in ways that affect the public at large. In doing so, the book explores how the possibility of egg freezing shifts our relation to the beginning and end of life.

Book I Hear Some People Just Have Sex

Download or read book I Hear Some People Just Have Sex written by Sandra L. Vasher and published by Mortal Ink Press, LLC. This book was released on 2020-11-23 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eight and a Half Years Sixteen Infertility Cycles Four Timed Intercourse Cycles Two IUI Cycles Two Egg Retrievals Seven Frozen Embryo Transfers Thousands of Dollars Two Miscarriages Three Pregnancies Live Births ...? That’s my infertility story. Almost a decade of trying, almost $65,000 spent on infertility treatments. So many IVF cycles that I can give myself progesterone shots in the rear. So many transvaginal pelvic ultrasounds that a pap smear no longer impresses me. Changed relationships, changed career goals. A whole list of things no one should ever say to someone going through infertility. And almost a baby. Almost. Because even though I am scheduled for a C-section next week, as I publish this book, I still do not have any guarantees. Infertility is a hell of a life crisis. But also, if you can learn how to navigate these choppy waters—if you can learn how to let go of what you can’t control, how to cope with the hard parts you never saw coming, how to play the world’s longest waiting game—you will build resilience and grit you didn’t think you were capable of. This is not a “how to have a baby” book. It’s not a “how to survive until you have a baby” book. It’s a “how to survive and maybe even thrive while trying to have a baby” book. That’s what I know: how to survive infertility and make the best of it while you’re praying for the miracle of a baby. And I know how to survive this because I’ve done it for nearly a decade. Some people just have sex to get pregnant. Not me. Maybe not you, either. We have infertility battles to fight, and this gets worse before it gets better. But I was made strong enough for this, and so were you. Let me show you how I know.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written from the perspective that fertility is a journey for us all, but each journey is deeply personal and unique. No one person's experience is the same as another's. So there may be parts of this book that don't seem relevant for you. With this in mind the book is written in a way that you can dip into different sections. To help you find what you are looking for I have given each chapter a name to reflect the different possible stages of a fertility journey. I have also used a consistent approach to most of chapters so you can find your way through these. I start by outlining the particular stage of the journey, its challenges, and then end with some tools for you to use. Where there are common themes in chapters I have linked these for ease of use.

Book Get Pregnant NOW the Quickest Guide to End Infertility Get Pregnant Fast to Start a Family NOW

Download or read book Get Pregnant NOW the Quickest Guide to End Infertility Get Pregnant Fast to Start a Family NOW written by Natalee Pena and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-12-16 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You're About to Discover Exactly How to Boost Fertility & Start a Family Now! The human body is a complex mix of tissue, hormones, chemicals and sheer magic. The things it can do are incredible, but when it doesn't do what we expect it can be tough to figure out what the problem is. Having trouble conceiving may be the result of ongoing or underlying health conditions, but often it's simply a case of your body being a little awkward and stubborn and not doing what you want it to. You're certainly not alone though. Statistics show that 10 to 15% of couples have trouble conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to full term. Infertility in Canada has doubled in recent years; this could be caused in part by the amount of couples who wait until later on in life to have children. Whereas the twenties used to be the most popular age to start a family, many are now waiting until their thirties, or even beyond, before having their first child. Although it's well known that conception can be more difficult above the age of 35, it doesn't mean to say it's impossible. It simply means that a few extra steps need to be taken to increase the chances of success. Starting a family is one of the most exciting times in your life, and once you've made the big decision to have a baby it's pretty common to want to get pregnant as soon as possible. Be patient and keep focusing on the amazing end goal; a little bundle of baby joy. Vital Pregnancy information in a quick read format.

Book When It s Not as Simple as the Birds and the Bees

Download or read book When It s Not as Simple as the Birds and the Bees written by Sandhya M. Graves and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sandhya's life was magical. She married her best friend, Tyler Graves, and a few short months later, their dreams of growing their family became a reality - she was pregnant. Yet, three short months later, on the very night they were out celebrating the end of their first trimester, Sandhya had to be rushed to the hospital. Amidst the sterile rooms of the emergency room and the unfriendly, cold resident on duty, Sandhya and Ty were told their baby had died. Stunned and shaken, they went home to await the physical and emotional pain and grief that comes with miscarrying a baby. Little did they know, their dreams of having a family would be years away. Their struggle with infertility, in-vitro fertilization, repeated pregnancy loss and serious health issues plagued them for the next several years. In this personal memoir, Sandhya shares intimate and heart-wrenching details of fertility procedures and the emotional turmoil that accompanies multiple in-vitro fertilization attempts, miscarriages, and a tragic molar pregnancy that put their dreams of starting a family on hold in order to make sure Sandhya did not have cancer. Speaking candidly, Sandhya, also discusses the grief she personally experienced with multiple pregnancy losses, her husband's own heartache, and how many people could not understand what they were going through or simply chose to downplay their feelings. In addition, she addresses the all too common feelings of anger, jealousy and longing when seeing these dreams come true for everyone else, yet not for yourself. What normally may break apart a relationship, caused Ty and Sandhya to pull together and find a deeper level of love and commitment. Their dreams of having children only grew stronger and their struggles forced them to consider options they never thought they would have to, including; adoption and surrogacy. These options forced them to put other dreams, such as traveling and moving, on hold as they ventured into new territories. Another year passed and their faith wavered, yet they never gave up on their dream. Their continuous strength led them on an amazing journey to find hope and make their dreams a reality.
