Book An Empirical Analysis of Enterprises Behaviours Within the Italian Car Market Using Technical Features and Prices

Download or read book An Empirical Analysis of Enterprises Behaviours Within the Italian Car Market Using Technical Features and Prices written by Antonio Focacci and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main aim of the paper is to propose an analysis involving prices and technical features of cars in order to obtain an empirical model revealing firms' behaviours in the marketplace. Such a type of approach seems justified by the fact that both of these variables (prices and technical specifications) are the uniquely available and fully appraisable information to an externalobserver/analyst. As a matter of fact, retail prices are directly found in published market lists, while the summa of technical specifications (even if it comes after an appropriated calculation) can be synthesised into a single figure by using data reported within specialised magazines. The results revealed by the retrieved information applying this model can be helpful both for managers and scholars in interpreting market behaviours of major enterprises, considering that both the growing complexity and the increasing international competition among players are the more defining aspects of current markets and related industries.

Book Multinational Enterprises and Technological Spillovers

Download or read book Multinational Enterprises and Technological Spillovers written by Tommaso Perez and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of the impact of inward investment on the competitiveness of indigenous firms, Multinational Enterprises and Technological Spillovers draws on evidence from the UK and Italian manufacturing sectors to show how foreign presence may generate both virtuous and vicious circles of development according to a number of interrelated factors. These include the level of the foreign presence, its rate of increase, the technological disparities between foreign and indigenous firms and the political response. An examination of the productive and innovatory activities of US and Japanese firms in Europe is also provided to enlighten the differential role of European countries in the global operations of overseas multinationals.

Book The Role of Price for Premium Brands The Case of the Automotive Industry

Download or read book The Role of Price for Premium Brands The Case of the Automotive Industry written by Gunnar Klaming and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2006-03-13 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2006 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 10 von 10 (Schweiz), University of Lugano (Faculty of Communication Sciences and Faculty of Economics), language: English, abstract: Starting situation Today, many markets have reached such a degree of saturation that market potential is often virtually exhausted. Increasingly, growth can be achieved only at the expense of competitors. Increasing internationalization and the market entry by new competitors result in brand and product inflation. Dramatically shorter product life cycles and constantly accelerating product aging are another challenge for companies that they must deal with.2 Hence, in order to make a company’s products stand out from the diverse range available, suppliers are attempting to hone competitive edge through increasing differentiation of their brands, emphasizing how they meet the specific needs and wants of their target customer groups and market segments. The overall goal of this approach is to build up brands that are unique in the market place – brands that promise a unique value. A strong brand can reach high rates of loyalty among existing customers; it can “more easily” gain new customers, due to its characteristic position; and it can therefore charge a premium price. Marketers have several means to work with in order to reach this goal. Generally, the corporate strategy “might specify a premium position or a massmerchandiser/ discount approach. These obviously have direct impact on the pricing”3. Price is only one of the marketing variables, but for the case of premium brands it is important. The pricing position is one determinant for the development of a brand identity, incidentally, not only among customers and potential customers, but also among society, employees, etc.). As part of the company’s target market and positioning objectives (that largely determine the pricing strategy) price reflects the quality of the branded product and likewise the prestige that the user gains through this brand. In this paper it will be shown, which role pricing plays in the brand concept of premium cars and what the case of the cars says about the theory and practice of premium brands.

Book Product Diversification in the Vehicles Industry

Download or read book Product Diversification in the Vehicles Industry written by Giancarlo Barbiroli and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current tendency towards product differentiation in many areas of manufacturing is generally considered to be a positive phenomenon. What we have attempted to do here is to analyse the real degree of diversification that exists within the vehicles industry (in the case of all those models of cars, scooters and motorcycles for which we managed to find figures) by measuring global performance together with the use of statistical correlation. We have elaborated our figures using the technical specifications and prices available in the (Italian) market. This method enables us to evaluate the actual degree of diversification within the vehicles industry, and to calculate the price/global performance ratio, a real measure of the relationship between the global quality of a product and its price, in order to get a critical understanding of the technical and economic results.

Book Interdependent Pricing and Markup Behavior

Download or read book Interdependent Pricing and Markup Behavior written by Ernst R. Berndt and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we show how to adapt the traditional contingent claims valuation techniques to correctly value the firm and its liabilities in the presence of agency costs. This enables us to measure the significance of the agency costs as a function of the quantity of debt outstanding and as a function of the design of the debt contract: with this we can determine the relative benefits of alternative contract design. Our work makes a contribution to the recent database about how much debt a corporation can prudently assume. It is possible to measure the agency advantages of the new debt instruments for a given firm, and therefore to determine for which firms the advantages are significant and for which firms they are not.

Book Essays on Structural Estimation in the European Car Market

Download or read book Essays on Structural Estimation in the European Car Market written by Carlos Esteban Noton Norambuena and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation consists of two essays of structural estimation in the European car market, where the first chapter focuses on the demand side and the second chapter focuses on the supply side. In the first chapter, I incorporate home bias in a structural demand, consistent with the strong dominant position of domestic car manufacturers in Europe. I use the Berry, Levinsohn, and Pakes (1995) methodology which considers heterogeneous consumers, controls for price endogeneity, and does not impose decision nests. My estimates suggest that home bias is a key determinant of the market shares differences and is well captured by a fixed effect. Contrary to previous finding, domestic producers do not face a less sensitive demand in their domestic markets than foreign competitors, which is a crucial distinction for pricing behavior. In the second chapter, I estimate the underlying cost structure of the car manufacturers to rationalize two key features: incomplete degree of exchange rate pass-through and gradual price adjustments. Using the methodology developed by Bajari, Benkard, and Levin (2007) to estimate dynamic games, I identify structural cost parameters including destination-currency cost components and price adjustment costs. The main results are: i) the destination-currency cost component should be about 20-30% of total costs in order to rationalize the observed incomplete degree of exchange rate pass-through; ii) relatively small price adjustment costs can rationalize the observed inertia in car prices; iii) there are heterogeneous price adjustment costs at producer-market level suggesting a new dimension of pricing to market behavior; and iv) in this particular dynamic environment, there is a positive relationship between price elasticities and markups.

The paper advances the discussion on the impact of this technology by distilling and categorizing the unique risks that it could pose to the integrity and stability of the financial system, policy challenges, and potential regulatory approaches. The evolving nature of this technology and its application in finance means that the full extent of its strengths and weaknesses is yet to be fully understood. Given the risk of unexpected pitfalls, countries will need to strengthen prudential oversight.
