Book Economic Analysis of Alternative Forage Handling Systems Northeast Washington

Download or read book Economic Analysis of Alternative Forage Handling Systems Northeast Washington written by Gayle S. Willett and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extract: The study develops economic information about major northeastern Washington forage handling systems. Capital investments, labor requirements and annual cost per ton for harvesting, storing and feeding forages are estimated for each of the following systems. 1. 200-acre dryland forage enterprise: a) conventional bale and hay; b) 1,500 lb. round bale; c) 3-ton stack. 2. 200-acre irrigated forage enterprise: a) conventional bale and hay; b) grass silage with storage in upright silo; c) grass silage with storage in bunk silo; d) grass silage with storage in plastic bag.

Book An Economic Analysis of Selected Hay Packaging Systems Under Stochastic Weather Conditions

Download or read book An Economic Analysis of Selected Hay Packaging Systems Under Stochastic Weather Conditions written by Richard Allen Schoney and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem studied was the impact of investment, under stochastic weather conditions, in alternative forage packaging systems for typical beef cow farms in Southern Indiana. Five basic packaging systems were selected for study: the large round bale (LR) system, the small stack (SS) system, the small round bale (SR) system, the small square bale with automated loading and storage (SQ-A) system, and the small square bale with manual loading and storage (SQ-M) system. For the LR, SS and SR systems, several subsystems were created to allow for outside storage and feeding as well as shed storage and bunk feeding. Only one system, the SS system permitted cornstalk harvesting, although all systems permitted cornstalk grazing. Each packaging system was examined on three typical Southern Indiana beef cow farms. Each farm shared a common resource base comprised of a family labor force, and existing set of buildings and rowcrop equipament, and 600 acres of land. The three farms differed solely in their respective mix of five different soil types. A total farm beef cow-forage model was formulated to include risk. All risk was assumed to be created by weather-induced variation in the values of three parameters: forage yields, haying days and field days. The distribution of each stochastic parameter was reduced to a finite set of values simulated from daily weather observations. Three stages of decision making were formed by varying lenght of planning horizons and associated riskinees. Finally, the model incorporated...

Book An Economic Analysis of Level Bench Systems for Forage Production in North Dakota Classic Reprint

Download or read book An Economic Analysis of Level Bench Systems for Forage Production in North Dakota Classic Reprint written by Wallace McMartin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-12 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Economic Analysis of Level Bench Systems for Forage Production in North Dakota The use of level benches can more than double alfalfa production, increase brome grass yield by almost 75 percent, and increase wheat yields by 5 or 6 bushels per acre over the yields produced on natural slopes. The increased yields are largely the result of the benches' ability to hold snow and snowmelt water. Benches, though similar to terraces, are much wider, level overall, and diked at the ends and front. Not enough benches are in actual farm use to provide cost and return data. Limited tests and experience elsewhere show that cost of bench construction is mainly affected by width of bench and complexity of slope. The cost per acre for construction may range from $25 for the narrowest benches on the gen tlest slopes to $353 for 70-foot benches on lo-percent slopes. Operating costs would be higher on a level bench system than on a natural slope, because each bench and its contributing area (an unter raced area above the bench), if there was one, would be treated as a single field for harvest ing and other operations. However, data on the increase in costs are fragmentary and some of the values were estimated. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
