These illegal clinics were few and far between but one place did exist. The Riverside Woman ́s Center was established for the very rich to rid themselves of unwanted pregnancies. Annie was a famous model who didn ́t want her career disrupted by an unplanned pregnancy. She also didn ́t want to risk losing the love of her life, who had not yet established himself in the art community. Without consulting him, she rid herself of the child only to find several years later, that the child had been born alive and was rescued by an employee that was a family friend. She also suffered the consequences of being unable to have any more children. The child is named Crystal. When the friend passes away, she leaves the information she had about Crystal ́s family and she reconnects with them in the only way she can and the only way she knows how. Her mother is driven to her death, while her father kills himself with her help, and after finding out the truth. Was what she did to them, anything less than what they did to her? Think about it.

  • ISBN : 9780814311158
  • Pages : 486 pages

Download or read book Let s Read written by Leonard Bloomfield and published by Wayne State University Press. This book was released on 1961 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let's Read is a simple and systematic way to teach basic reading. Developed by noted linguist Leonard Bloomfield, the book is based on the alphabetic spelling patterns of English. Bloomfield offered an antidote to the idea that English is a difficult language to learn to read by teaching the learner to decode the phonemic sound-letter correlations of the language in a sequential, logical progression of lessons based on its spelling patterns. The learner is first introduced to the most consistent (alphabetic) vocabulary and then to increasingly less alphabetic and less frequent spelling patterns within a vocabulary of about 5,000 words.

Book Once Upon a Falling Star

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year is 1935. Bettina, just turned six, is spending her summer vacation with Granny and Dada, her grandmother and grandfather, in Kalenda, a small North Texas town. In addition to her grandparents, the household includes Franky, their cook / housekeeper / laundress, whose husband Professor, principal of the K-12 Negro school, drives Franky to work and spends time at the kitchen table with Dada, discussing world events, and Rufus, the gardener / handyman / chauffeur. Frequent visitors are Nanny, Granny's crippled younger sister, and her husband, Harry, who drive into town from their small farm in an old Pierce Arrow which only Nanny can drive and only in second gear, and Uncle, Granny's younger brother, who lives alone near the railroad tracks with his two hunting dogs. Among the colorful townsfolk are Dolly (wife of Jolly), who has no children but has a wondrous doll collection for all the town's children to enjoy; Scrap, the trash man, who drives a mule-drawn cart to pick up castoffs which he turns into treasures; Miss Annie, the widow of a sea captain, who wears trousers, smokes an occasional cigar, and drives a bright yellow roadster; and Woodrow, confused but harmless, who thinks he is the President of the United States. But through all the delights of a carefree, almost magical summer, is woven the shadow of eight-year-old Billy Jack, the mostly unsupervised son of a mother long gone and a father who works in the oil fields. Billy Jack has told Bettina that Mrs. Crone, a strange neighbor who dresses all in black, is a witch. Bettina is afraid of Mrs. Crone, as well as of the frowning life-size angel with its sword unsheathed, which Mrs. Crone erected at the entrance of Townview Cemetery.

Book Peter Matthiessen and Ecological Imagination

Download or read book Peter Matthiessen and Ecological Imagination written by Intaek Oh and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter Matthiessen and Ecological Imagination offers an ecocritical reading of the Watson Trilogy - Killing Mister Watson (1990), Lost Man's River (1997), and Bone By Bone (1999) - which draws together themes Matthiessen has been exploring both in his fiction and nonfiction. While this study argues that his ecological imagination comes from his unique experience as a novelist, naturalist, environmentalist, social activist, and a student of Zen, it also illustrates that for Matthiessen, economic, political, social, racial, psychological, epistemological, and ecological issues are all inseparably interconnected. Set in the Everglades frontier in the formative era of American industrial capitalism, Matthiessen's novels are his grand attempt to reexamine the root causes of ecological disaster in the region and the costs to the people and the land that accompanied the conquering of the frontier.
