Book Qualitative Choice Analysis

Download or read book Qualitative Choice Analysis written by Kenneth Train and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1986 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses two significant research areas in an interdependent fashion. It is first of all a comprehensive but concise text that covers the recently developed and widely applicable methods of qualitative choice analysis, illustrating the general theory through simulation models of automobile demand and use. It is also a detailed study of automobile demand and use, presenting forecasts based on these powerful new techniques. The book develops the general principles that underlie qualitative choice models that are now being applied in numerous fields in addition to transportation, such as housing, labor, energy, communications, and criminology. The general form, derivation, and estimation of qualitative choice models are explained, and the major models - logit, probit, and GEV - are discussed in detail. And continuous/discrete models are introduced. In these, qualitative choice methods and standard regression techniques are combined to analyze situations that neither alone can accurately forecast. Summarizing previous research on auto demand, the book shows how qualitative choice methods can be used by applying them to specific auto-related decisions as the aggregate of individuals' choices. The simulation model that is constructed is a significant improvement over older models, and should prove more useful to agencies and organizations requiring accurate forecasting of auto demand and use for planning and policy development. The book concludes with an actual case study based on a model designed for the investigations of the California Energy Commission. Kenneth Train is Visiting Associate Professor in Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, and Director of Economic Research at Cambridge Systematics, Inc., also in Berkeley. Qualitative Choice Analysisis included in The MIT Press Transportation Studies Series, edited by Marvin L. Manheim.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There continues to be intense interest in the microtubule cytoskeleton; the assembly, structure and regulation of microtubules; and the numerous motors and accessory proteins that control cell cycle, dynamics, organization and transport. The field continues to grow and explore new aspects of these issues driven immensely by developments in optical imaging and tracking techniques. This volume (complemented by the forthcoming companion volume by Cassimeris and Tran) brings together current research and protocols in the field of microtoubules in vitro and will serve as a valuable tool for cell biologists, biophysicists and pharmacologists who study the microtubule cytoskeleton, as well as for researchers in the biomedical and biotechnology communities with interest in developing drugs that target microtubules, MAPS and motors. Chapters reflect both experimental procedures and new developments in the field of microtubule in vitro research Combines classical approaches and modern technologies Presents easy-to-use protocols and thorough background information, compiled by leaders in the field

Book Nonlinear Dynamics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Marc R Roussel
  • Publisher : Morgan & Claypool Publishers
  • Release : 2019-05-01
  • ISBN : 1643274643
  • Pages : 190 pages

Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamics written by Marc R Roussel and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2019-05-01 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book uses a hands-on approach to nonlinear dynamics using commonly available software, including the free dynamical systems software Xppaut, Matlab (or its free cousin, Octave) and the Maple symbolic algebra system. Detailed instructions for various common procedures, including bifurcation analysis using the version of AUTO embedded in Xppaut, are provided. This book also provides a survey that can be taught in a single academic term covering a greater variety of dynamical systems (discrete versus continuous time, finite versus infinite-dimensional, dissipative versus conservative) than is normally seen in introductory texts. Numerical computation and linear stability analysis are used as unifying themes throughout the book. Despite the emphasis on computer calculations, theory is not neglected, and fundamental concepts from the field of nonlinear dynamics such as solution maps and invariant manifolds are presented.

Book Computational Modeling and Data Analysis in COVID 19 Research

Download or read book Computational Modeling and Data Analysis in COVID 19 Research written by Chhabi Rani Panigrahi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-05-09 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers recent research on the COVID-19 pandemic. It includes the analysis, implementation, usage, and proposed ideas and models with architecture to handle the COVID-19 outbreak. Using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), techniques for data analysis, this book will be helpful to mitigate exposure and ensure public health. We know prevention is better than cure, so by using several ML techniques, researchers can try to predict the disease in its early stage and develop more effective medications and treatments. Computational technologies in areas like AI, ML, Internet of Things (IoT), and drone technologies underlie a range of applications that can be developed and utilized for this purpose. Because in most cases there is no one solution to stop the spreading of pandemic diseases, and the integration of several tools and tactics are needed. Many successful applications of AI, ML, IoT, and drone technologies already exist, including systems that analyze past data to predict and conclude some useful information for controlling the spread of COVID-19 infections using minimum resources. The AI and ML approach can be helpful to design different models to give a predictive solution for mitigating infection and preventing larger outbreaks. This book: Examines the use of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), and drone technologies as a helpful predictive solution for controlling infection of COVID-19 Covers recent research related to the COVID-19 pandemic and includes the analysis, implementation, usage, and proposed ideas and models with architecture to handle a pandemic outbreak Examines the performance, implementation, architecture, and techniques of different analytical and statistical models related to COVID-19 Includes different case studies on COVID-19 Dr. Chhabi Rani Panigrahi is Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Rama Devi Women’s University, Bhubaneswar, India. Dr. Bibudhendu Pati is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science at Rama Devi Women’s University, Bhubaneswar, India. Dr. Mamata Rath is Assistant Professor in the School of Management (Information Technology) at Birla Global University, Bhubaneswar, India. Prof. Rajkumar Buyya is a Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor and Director of the Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems (CLOUDS) Laboratory at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
