Book An Asymptotic Theory for Sliced Inverse Regression

Download or read book An Asymptotic Theory for Sliced Inverse Regression written by Tailen Hsing and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sliced inverse regression (Li, 1989, 1990 and Duan and Li, 1988) is a nonparametric method for achieving dimension reduction in regression problems. In this paper, we consider the asymptotic properties, including the rate of convergence and asymptotic normality, of Li's 2-slice estimation method. A key step in the proof of asymptotic normality is a central limit theorem for sums of conditionally independent random variables. We also study the asymptotic distribution of Greenwood's statistic in non-uniform cases.

Download or read book Regression Graphics written by R. Dennis Cook and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-09-25 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of regression graphics through computer graphics. Recent developments in computer technology have stimulated new and exciting uses for graphics in statistical analyses. Regression Graphics, one of the first graduate-level textbooks on the subject, demonstrates how statisticians, both theoretical and applied, can use these exciting innovations. After developing a relatively new regression context that requires few scope-limiting conditions, Regression Graphics guides readers through the process of analyzing regressions graphically and assessing and selecting models. This innovative reference makes use of a wide range of graphical tools, including 2D and 3D scatterplots, 3D binary response plots, and scatterplot matrices. Supplemented by a companion ftp site, it features numerous data sets and applied examples that are used to elucidate the theory. Other important features of this book include: * Extensive coverage of a relatively new regression context based on dimension-reduction subspaces and sufficient summary plots * Graphical regression, an iterative visualization process for constructing sufficient regression views * Graphics for regressions with a binary response * Graphics for model assessment, including residual plots * Net-effects plots for assessing predictor contributions * Graphics for predictor and response transformations * Inverse regression methods * Access to a Web site of supplemental plots, data sets, and 3D color displays. An ideal text for students in graduate-level courses on statistical analysis, Regression Graphics is also an excellent reference for professional statisticians.

Book Festschrift in Honor of R Dennis Cook

Download or read book Festschrift in Honor of R Dennis Cook written by Efstathia Bura and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In honor of professor and renowned statistician R. Dennis Cook, this festschrift explores his influential contributions to an array of statistical disciplines ranging from experimental design and population genetics, to statistical diagnostics and all areas of regression-related inference and analysis. Since the early 1990s, Prof. Cook has led the development of dimension reduction methodology in three distinct but related regression contexts: envelopes, sufficient dimension reduction (SDR), and regression graphics. In particular, he has made fundamental and pioneering contributions to SDR, inventing or co-inventing many popular dimension reduction methods, such as sliced average variance estimation, the minimum discrepancy approach, model-free variable selection, and sufficient dimension reduction subspaces. A prolific researcher and mentor, Prof. Cook is known for his ability to identify research problems in statistics that are both challenging and important, as well as his deep appreciation for the applied side of statistics. This collection of Prof. Cook's collaborators, colleagues, friends, and former students reflects the broad array of his contributions to the research and instructional arenas of statistics.

Book XploRe An Interactive Statistical Computing Environment

Download or read book XploRe An Interactive Statistical Computing Environment written by Wolfgang Härdle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes an interactive statistical computing environment called 1 XploRe. As the name suggests, support for exploratory statistical analysis is given by a variety of computational tools. XploRe is a matrix-oriented statistical language with a comprehensive set of basic statistical operations that provides highly interactive graphics, as well as a programming environ ment for user-written macros; it offers hard-wired smoothing procedures for effective high-dimensional data analysis. Its highly dynamic graphic capa bilities make it possible to construct student-level front ends for teaching basic elements of statistics. Hot keys make it an easy-to-use computing environment for statistical analysis. The primary objective of this book is to show how the XploRe system can be used as an effective computing environment for a large number of statistical tasks. The computing tasks we consider range from basic data matrix manipulations to interactive customizing of graphs and dynamic fit ting of high-dimensional statistical models. The XploRe language is similar to other statistical languages and offers an interactive help system that can be extended to user-written algorithms. The language is intuitive and read ers with access to other systems can, without major difficulty, reproduce the examples presented here and use them as a basis for further investigation.

Book Statistics in Genetics and in the Environmental Sciences

Download or read book Statistics in Genetics and in the Environmental Sciences written by Luisa T. Fernholz and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistics is strongly tied to applications in different scientific disciplines, and the most challenging statistical problems arise from problems in the sciences. In fact, the most innovative statistical research flows from the needs of applications in diverse settings. This volume is a testimony to the crucial role that statistics plays in scientific disciplines such as genetics and environmental sciences, among others. The articles in this volume range from human and agricultural genetic DNA research to carcinogens and chemical concentrations in the environment and to space debris and atmospheric chemistry. Also included are some articles on statistical methods which are sufficiently general and flexible to be applied to many practical situations. The papers were refereed by a panel of experts and the editors of the volume. The contributions are based on the talks presented at the Workshop on Statistics and the Sciences, held at the Centro Stefano Franscini in Ascona, Switzerland, during the week of May 23 to 28, 1999. The meeting was jointly organized by the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Lausanne and Zurich, with the financial support of the Minerva Research Foundation. As the presentations at the workshop helped the participants recognize the po tential role that statistics can play in the sciences, we hope that this volume will help the reader to focus on the central role of statistics in the specific areas presented here and to extrapolate the results to further applications.

Book Local Polynomial Modelling and Its Applications

Download or read book Local Polynomial Modelling and Its Applications written by Jianqing Fan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-02 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data-analytic approaches to regression problems, arising from many scientific disciplines are described in this book. The aim of these nonparametric methods is to relax assumptions on the form of a regression function and to let data search for a suitable function that describes the data well. The use of these nonparametric functions with parametric techniques can yield very powerful data analysis tools. Local polynomial modeling and its applications provides an up-to-date picture on state-of-the-art nonparametric regression techniques. The emphasis of the book is on methodologies rather than on theory, with a particular focus on applications of nonparametric techniques to various statistical problems. High-dimensional data-analytic tools are presented, and the book includes a variety of examples. This will be a valuable reference for research and applied statisticians, and will serve as a textbook for graduate students and others interested in nonparametric regression.
