The assessment incorporates new information from the most recent research vessel survey (April 2002) as well as sampling of a portion of the 2002 commercial fishery. Other sources of information included oceanographic data, in-shore sentinel surveys, vessel logbooks, a trawl survey, and recapture of tagged cod from tagging experiments carried out 1997-2002. Results are discussed with regard to such matters as catch at age, harvest rates, abundance, biomass, distribution, age composition, size at age, somatic condition, maturity, and spawning. Sequential population analyses were also undertaken that compared various models & formulations as a basis for presenting a table of risk associated with alternative quota options for the 2002/03 fishing season.
