This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study sought to investigate possible conflict in the relationship between Church and State in the administration of Catholic secondary schools in Zimbabwe. For the sample, twenty-four randomly selected catholic secondary schools countrywide were used. The total number of respondents was 214 out of 260. Questionnaires and structured interviews were used for data collection. The data were examined and analyzed using frequency tables. The major findings of the study established that conflict between Church and State in education has a long history and cuts across all cultures. The degree of conflict is not static but varies from one country to another and with time. In Zimbabwe, conflict was found to exist in areas of staffing, promotions, curriculum and decision making. The State has more power in all the areas of administration in secondary schools. Church and State are in partnership, though the terms are not written down. The Church wants a greater say in decision making. Awareness of the differences and scope of partnership between Church and State is important when evaluating claims that the Church builds and maintains schools and the State staffs, promotes and dictates po

Book excerpt: This provocative book shows how the justices of the United States Supreme Court have used constitutional history, portraying the Framers' actions in a light favoring their own views about how church and state should be separated. Book A Third Reich as I See It

Download or read book A Third Reich as I See It written by Janosch Steuwer and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2023-04-04 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the beginning of the National Socialist dictatorship, Germany not only experienced a deep political turning point but the private life of Germans also changed fundamentally. The Nazi regime had far-reaching ideas about how the individual should think and act. In "A Third Reich, as I See It" Janosch Steuwer examines the private diaries of ordinary Germans written between 1933 and 1939 and shows how average citizens reacted to the challenges of National Socialism. Some felt the urge and desire to adapt to the political circumstances. Others felt compelled to do so. They all contributed to the realization of the vision of a homogeneous, conflict-free, and "racially pure" society. In a detailed manner and with a convincing sense of the bigger picture, Steuwer shows how the tense efforts of people to fit in, and at the same time to preserve existing opinions and self-conceptions, led to a close intertwining of the private and the political. "A Third Reich, as I See It" offers a surprisingly new look at how the ideological visions of National Socialism found their way into the everyday reality of Germans.

Book Church and State in Historical Perspective

Download or read book Church and State in Historical Perspective written by James E. Wood and published by Praeger. This book was released on 2005-05-30 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of church and state is one intimately associated with the history of Christianity and Western civilization. However, the subject is one that is by no means limited to any one religious tradition, civilization, or period of history. Rather, it is a subject that has historical and universal significance to all cultures and religious traditions throughout the world. It is simply undeniable that religion has been, and remains, a powerful force in the making and shaping of cultures, civilizations, nations, and empires. For this reason, this volume addresses the broader perspectives of religion and the state in the ancient world, as well as in the biblical world of Judaism and Christianity, and in other religious traditions than Christianity. Attention is given to general works on church and state that treat the subject broadly, not limited to any particular nation, religious tradition, or single aspect of church-state relations. Additionally, there is material on major topics integrally related to church and state, such as civil disobedience, civil religion, liberation theology, patriotism, and nationalism. Finally, sources are included on religion in international affairs and interfaith relations, both necessarily linked to the subject of church and state, as well as religion and the economic order; religion and human rights and the effect of religion on war and peace.

Download or read book Beyond Establishment written by Jonathan Chaplin and published by SCM Press. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Church of England finds itself colliding with society at large on regular occasion. Has the time come, therefore, where the advantages of being the established church are at last outweighed by the disadvantages? Is there a case for disestablishment, and if so, what might a fresh vision of the church’s relationship with wider society be? Separating the question of establishment, from the question of presence in the community, Jonathan Chaplin argues that the time has come for the ending of privileged constitutional ties between the Church of England the British state. Rather than offering a smaller place for the Church of England within society, he suggests, such a separation would in fact enhance its ability to maintain an embedded presence in local parishes, and allow it the room to speak out about the deeper, bigger challenges which face society today.
