Book An Array of Log periodic Dipole Antennas for Radiative Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing

Download or read book An Array of Log periodic Dipole Antennas for Radiative Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing written by Kam Tai Wong and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ideally, radiative electromagnetic compatibility testing of electronic equipment requires an antenna which, when operated in its transmitting mode, generates a plane-wave irradiating field in the near-field region. Antenna arrays have potential advantages, particularly at sub-microwave frequencies, in the generation of fields that approximate this ideal condition. This work investigates the applicability of the use of antenna arrays as the test antennas for such tests, including investigations into the design techniques and the practical details. Discussions are mainly directed towards a seven-element array of log-periodic dipole antennas. The basic design problem is to determine a set of array element excitations, so that when the array elements are so excited, the array generates an approximate plane wave in the near field. Two design techniques, one based on the numerical antenna pattern synthesis methods, one based on the theory of the plane-wave spectrum, were investigated. The numerical antenna pattern synthesis methods were found to be very effective. Further studies showed that one particular synthesis procedure, the magnitude pattern synthesis procedure, is most appropriate for the present application, since this procedure generates the set of element excitations that produces the highest-quality approximate plane wave in the near field. Parametric studies were undertaken to establish the optimum design parameters. The design process involved the use of a moment-method package, the Numerical Electromagnetics Code (NEC-2). Fast predictions of the near fields of the log-periodic dipole antenna, and of the antenna array were obtained by modelling the radiating structure with NEC-2. Because of the scale of the numerical problem, supercomputers (the Cyber 205 and the Cray X-MP/48) were used. The practical aspects of the use of antenna arrays for electromagnetic compatibility testing are considered, including, discussions on the criteria for choosing the array elements, the Optimum geometry for the array, and antenna designs for wideband operation and for elevation scanning.

Book ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY WITHOUT EQUATIONS

Download or read book ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY WITHOUT EQUATIONS written by CHETAN KATHALAY and published by CHETAN KATHALAY. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with practical concepts of Electromagnetic Compatibility testing and design. Given the scorching pace at which electronic gadgets are evolving, deadlines associated with product design are shrinking rapidly. In such a scenario, the designer obviously has no time to read mathematical theory. Keeping this fact in mind, the book explains only the practical aspects of EMC design without resorting to equations or mathematical derivations whatsoever. It has been designed in such a way that the designer can immediately incorporate EMC measures without worrying about the mathematics behind it. The book starts with EMC fundamentals, speaks about EMC standards and then goes on to explain various EMC test methodologies in detail. In the subsequent chapters, various design measures like filtering, shielding, grounding & bonding, PCB design and cable routing are discussed thoroughly. These measures will enable manufacturers to design a compliant product at the design stage itself thereby saving time and money that would otherwise be required for costly retrofits once the design is frozen.

Book Computed Radiation Patterns of Log periodic Antennas Over Lossy Plane Ground

Download or read book Computed Radiation Patterns of Log periodic Antennas Over Lossy Plane Ground written by Mark T. Ma and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four different orientations of a log-periodic dipole array of 11 elements over several types of ground are studied. With the xy-plane always treated as the flat ground, they are called 1) the x-array when dipole elements are parallel with the x-axis and the array axis is parallel with they-axis, 2) the y-array when dipoles are parallel with the y-axis and the array axis is coincident with the z-axis, 3) the z-array when dipoles are parallel with the z-axis and the array axis is parallel with the y-acix, and 4) the z=Ay=array when dipoles are parallel with the x-axis and the array axis makes an angle with the z-axis.

Book An Analysis of the Shunt fed Log periodic Monopole Array Antenna

Download or read book An Analysis of the Shunt fed Log periodic Monopole Array Antenna written by Pitt Willis Arnold and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytic method is here introduced enabling one to insert the physical dimensions of a shunt-fed log-periodic monopole array antenna into a properly arranged computer program and obtain reasonably accurate information about the radiation and impedance characteristics of the antenna from the resultant computer output. The method is related to a similar analysis of dipole type antennas but the complexity of the feed system of the shunt-fed structures causes the matrix relations to be more complex than those of the dipole antenna. Computed and experimental results are compared and the “optimized feed” case is discussed at some length.

Book An Analysis and Design Optimization of the Log periodic Dipole Antenna

Download or read book An Analysis and Design Optimization of the Log periodic Dipole Antenna written by Charles J. Drane and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximate representations for current and charge distributions along each dipole of a log-periodic dipole antenna are derived. The special mathematical forms assumed by these representations are chosen to be particularly compatible with the set of integral equations that the representations must satisfy. An attractive attributes is their ability to handle the rapid variations in charge that often exist near the driving points and ends of the dipole elements. This ability to accurately predict how charges are distributed can be essential to precise estimates of the maximum voltage gradient on the antenna, and is critically important when the antenna is to be designed for high-power applications.
