Because it's more than just inspiration or motivation. This is a work of activation. This book can bring an awakening to your life.An appreciation awakening is like a revelation, or more accurately, a revolution. Just a handful of people whose mind is set on gratitude can bring real hope to the world. Encouragement is contagious. If we can affect one small section of our world, then a chain reaction can multiply these efforts and possibly change humanity."Gratitude can change our world in immensely important ways. Because, if you are grateful, then you are not fearful. If you are not fearful, then you are not violent. If you are grateful, then you act out of a sense of enough and not a sense of scarcity," said Brother David Steindl-Rast, author and Benedictine monk. This revelation can turn the restless content and the greedy grateful. This revolution can soften hardened hearts and clean up the acts of those who only want more for themselves. By saying "thanks" in a meaningful and genuine way, you can revolutionize your personal world. One person's small act of goodness repeated over and over can multiply into a lifestyle which affects many others. That's the goal of this book; written in the hope of being an awakening. Read the chapters about faith, science, and self-love. Lean into the stories about how to be thankful in the worst of times. Alter your lifestyle with the one-of-a-kind Thirty-One Days of Gratitude Challenge. Take advantage of and use the interactive journal.Experience an appreciation awakening and you will never be the same. Book The Spiritual Awakening Guide

Download or read book The Spiritual Awakening Guide written by Mary Mueller Shutan and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first modern, comprehensive resource on spiritual awakenings, this pragmatic, clear guide covers everything from the first step on a spiritual journey to enlightenment, and the different types of spiritual awakenings, from mild to dramatic, we may go through. Using the concept of the twelve layers that cover an awakened state Mary Mueller Shutan addresses every step of the spiritual journey, starting with the Self and showing how family, ancestral, past lives, karmic, archetypal, and other larger layers such as societal, cultural, global, and cosmic energies condition us to sleep and obscure our realization of an awakened state. Instructions for how to navigate through each of these layers and how to recognize where we are in our spiritual journey are included each step of the way along with common physical, emotional, and spiritual symptoms that may be experienced. By addressing post-awakening states, oneness, dark nights of the soul, ego death, near-death and severe illness, psychic abilities, addictions, dietary changes, the God self, personal and collective shadow, and psychosis vs. awakening we understand the experiences we may go through while struggling with spiritual awakenings. This practical book opens new understandings of how to live in the world while going through an awakening process, and offers the revolutionary idea that we are meant to be humans, to have a physical body with physical, sensate experiences and emotions. We are meant to live in the world and be a part of it even as fully awakened individuals. This guide proposes a look at the possibility of leading a grounded, earth-bound life of work, family, friends, and other experiences in an awakened state.

Book excerpt: An amazingly succinct and accessible answer to the question “What is enlightenment?”—from one of America's most prominent teachers of Insight Meditation Former Buddhist monk and highly regarded Insight Meditation teacher Rodney Smith describes the process of enlightenment in a way anyone can understand—demonstrating in clear language why we operate with the illusion of separation, how we can move out of it to the realization of emptiness and no-self, and how we can live from that state of awakening. He provides brief, powerful exercises that enable us to challenge the reality of our thoughts in order to free ourselves from the illusion they keep us bound to—all the while steering us away from the temptation to regard spiritual practice as a process of self-improvement or a goal to be obtained. “With systematic precision, and with subtle wisdom born of a lifetime of practice, Rodney Smith uses science, psychology, and traditional Buddhism to explain the unexplainable: the how and why of authentic spiritual awakening . . . an original work by a contemporary spiritual master at the height of his powers.” —Norman Fischer, author of Training in Compassion

  • Publisher : Rowman & Littlefield
  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN : 9780765706652
  • Pages : 226 pages

Download or read book Awakening to Awe written by Kirk J. Schneider and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2009 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Awakening to Awe is a self-help meditation on an alternative--and growing--spiritual movement. This is a movement comprised of people who refuse the "quick-fix" model for healing, whether that model entails popping pills, indulging in material comforts, or adhering to doctrinal dogmas. By contrast, the movement about which Schneider writes is composed of people who have developed the capacity to experience the humility and wonder, or in short, awe, of life deeply lived. In particular, this book highlights the stories of people who through the cultivation of awe have transformed their lives. For example, readers will discover how awe transformed the life of an ex-gang member into a beloved and productive gang mediator, an ex-drug addict into a communally conscious healer, and a sufferer of stage three cancer into a contemplative and spiritual seeker. The book will also inform readers about the challenges and joys of awe-based child-raising, education, humor, political activism, and aging. Drawing on the philosophy of Schneider's earlier work, the acclaimed Rediscovery of Awe, Awakening to Awe tells the down-to-earth stories of a quiet yet emerging revolution in the transformation of lives.

Book Shamanic Awakening

Download or read book Shamanic Awakening written by Sandra Corcoran and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-03-02 with total page 220 pages. Book excerpt: One woman’s mystical path through grief into renewal, expanded awareness, and discovery of her own healing capabilities • Offers a lens into a wide variety of wisdomkeeping traditions and alternative healing paradigms throughout the Americas and Europe • Shows how the mystical path enables us to find renewal in times of profound loss • Details the author’s awakening to the energies of the cosmos, which can guide us toward our destiny, balanced between our soul’s dark and light energies How do you find renewal after loss, especially the loss of a child? How do you find purpose and courage when loss is your constant teacher? After weeks of profound grief following the loss of her young daughter, Sandra Corcoran found herself inexplicably at a life-changing workshop on indigenous teachings and energy healing. With the first glimpse of the light that called her to the workshop, Corcoran found herself beginning a 30-year metaphysical journey within, initially to heal her grief but eventually leading her from the darkness into the light of her own soul’s evolution. Working with Native elders and indigenous wisdomkeepers throughout North, Central, and South America, Corcoran opened her heart to the immensity of the living energies of the cosmos and discovered her shamanistic gifts as an intuitive counselor, dreamtime decoder, and facilitator for others’ self-healing. As she learned to discern these living energies and work with them, she also discovered the middle path between the soul’s dark and luminous energies, striking the balance that allows us to fulfill our destiny. Sharing the core teachings of her many indigenous and esoteric mentors, including lessons in synchronicity, metaphysics, the extraordinary power of the heart, multi-dimensional realms, and energy healing, Corcoran leads readers on an adventure across continents through birth, death, ceremony, and ritual to renewal and the frontiers of expanded consciousness. She shows that no matter how far outside of the familiar we are led, we are guided back to ourselves and offered another opportunity to embrace our world and, ultimately, find our place in it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique, adaptable model for meditation practice that ties together elements of the various Buddhist traditions The deceptively simple three-phase method presented in Three Steps to Awakening is a meditation practice that can be worked with for a lifetime. Larry Rosenberg looks to Zen, Insight Meditation, and the teachings of J. Krishnamurti to find three kinds of meditation that anyone can do and that complement each other in a wonderful way: (1) breath awareness, (2) breath as anchor, and (3) choiceless awareness. Having the three methods in one’s repertoire gives one meditation resources for any life situation. In a time of stress, for example, one might use breath awareness exclusively. Or on an extended retreat, one might find choiceless awareness more appropriate. The three-step method has been taught to Larry’s students at the Cambridge Meditation Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for many years. After teaching the three-step method, Larry goes on to show how to bring the awareness gained in meditation to the world off the cushion, into relationships and into all areas of daily life.

Book The Great Awakening

  • Author : Richard L. Bushman
  • Publisher : UNC Press Books
  • Release : 2013-04-01

Download or read book The Great Awakening written by Richard L. Bushman and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2013-04-01 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most twentieth-century Americans fail to appreciate the power of Christian conversion that characterized the eighteenth-century revivals, especially the Great Awakening of the 1740s. The common disdain in this secular age for impassioned religious emotion and language is merely symptomatic of the shift in values that has shunted revivals to the sidelines. The very magnitude of the previous revivals is one indication of their importance. Between 1740 and 1745 literally thousands were converted. From New England to the southern colonies, people of all ages and all ranks of society underwent the New Birth. Virtually every New England congregation was touched. It is safe to say that most of the colonists in the 1740s, if not converted themselves, knew someone who was, or at least heard revival preaching. The Awakening was a critical event in the intellectual and ecclesiastical life of the colonies. The colonists' view of the world placed much importance on conversion. Particularly, Calvinist theology viewed the bestowal of divine grace as the most crucial occurrence in human life. Besides assuring admission to God's presence in the hereafter, divine grace prepared a person for a fullness of life on earth. In the 1740s the colonists, in overwhelming numbers, laid claim to the divine power which their theology offered them. Many experienced the moral transformatoin as promised. In the Awakening the clergy's pleas of half a century came to dramatic fulfillment. Not everyone agreed that God was working in the Awakening. Many believed preachers to be demagogues, stirring up animal spirits. The revival was looked on as an emotional orgy that needlessly disturbed the churches and frustrated the true work of God. But from 1740 to 1745 no other subject received more attention in books and pamphlets. Through the stirring rhetoric of the sermons, theological treatises, and correspondence presented in this collection, readers can vicariously participate in the ecstasy as well as in the rage generated by America's first national revival.

Book Awakening to the Power of Peace Love Joy Gratitude

Download or read book Awakening to the Power of Peace Love Joy Gratitude written by Jean Maalouf and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-08-09 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humankind is, at the present time, reaching a critical point in history. A disaster of apocalyptic proportions could erupt at any time. “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought,” predicted Albert Einstein, “but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” What we are to do in order to prevent such catastrophic events? We are to change the way we think, insists philosopher Maalouf. We are to see people and things in different ways. We are to see with God’s eyes. We are to witness the birth of a new consciousness. For philosopher Jean Maalouf, who holds two Ph.D.s and who has published more than forty books, one needs to go beyond the symptoms, he affirms, and find the root causes of our crises. His new book, Awakening to the Power of Peace – Love – Joy -- Gratitude, goes straight to the very core of our crises and points the way to their solutions. The truth is that the battlefield is not primarily on the land where people confront and kill each other. The true battlefield is where decisions are made--in the people’s minds, hearts, and souls. This is also where solutions should be found. Dr. Maalouf invites us to change the way we perceive reality so that a new way of living can emerge. If we don’t learn to love one another and to live together in peace, we will continue to kill each other, and we will perish together. We are interconnected. We are interdependent. What we think about, how we see things, and what we say and do and the way we live our life matter greatly. We-ly (all of us together), we should live in peace, love, joy, and gratitude.

When she experimented with meditation for the first time, however, her entire world changed. Woollacott’s journey through years of meditation has made her question the reality she built her career upon and has forced her to ask what human consciousness really is. Infinite Awareness pairs Woollacott’s research as a neuroscientist with her self-revelations about the mind’s spiritual power. Between the scientific and spiritual worlds, she breaks open the definition of human consciousness to investigate the existence of a non-physical and infinitely powerful mind.
