Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The so-called Epistula Apostolorum is an early gospel-like text in which the eleven apostles recount a question-and-answer session with the risen Jesus on Easter morning, intended to equip them for the worldwide mission to which they are now called. The Epistula draws selectively from the Gospels of John and Matthew, while disagreeing with its sources at a number of points and claiming definitive status for its own rendering of the apostolic gospel. This book is based on a new translation of this important but neglected text, drawing on the Coptic, Ethiopic, and Latin manuscript evidence and with variants noted in an English-language critical apparatus. Extensive additional notes are provided to clarify issues of text, translation, and exegesis. The central chapters explore major theological themes such as incarnation, resurrection, and eschatology in the light of related texts within and beyond the New Testament.

Book The Joy of the Gospel

Download or read book The Joy of the Gospel written by Pope Francis and published by Image. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage

Book excerpt: A leading expert in the field of Christian missions encourages the church to recover the apostolic imagination that fueled the multiplication of disciples in the first century. J. D. Payne examines the contemporary practice of Western missions and advocates a more central place for Scripture in defining missionary language, identity, purpose, function, and strategy. He shows that an apostolic understanding of the church's disciple-making commission requires rethinking every aspect of missionary engagement. The book includes end-of-chapter discussion questions and action steps to help pastors and church leaders develop an apostolic imagination.

Book excerpt: God is progressively releasing into the earth powerful apostolic and prophetic anointings, and is restoring the apostolic nature of the church itself Every Christian needs to prayerfully consider the message of this book, and hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. The change is ongoing, and God is acting in the history of the church and nations. The Apostolic Revelation unveils a series of dynamic concepts that are crucial to the life of the church and the restoration of its apostolic power. It establishes benchmarks for the apostolic ministry, and gives definition to the apostolic structure of the church. Here is a revelation of apostolic methods, and God's heart for the church and its leadership. In this study, today's apostolic message is harmonised with and grounded in the apostolic revelation of Christ given to Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. This work is the result of 13 years of inquiry, searching the mind of the Spirit regarding the place of apostles today, and seeking to understand what it means for the church to be the mature apostolic church. Book The Truth of the Apostolic Gospel Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Truth of the Apostolic Gospel Classic Reprint written by R. A. Falconner and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Truth of the Apostolic Gospel 1. The genuine student is eager in the search for truth. He believes that everything must approve itself to his reason. Science has made such gigantic strides, and has by its magnificent generalizations so brought home to the modern mind the unity of nature, that its laws are regarded as the abiding objective truth, whatever be our likes or dislikes, our superstitions or prejudices. Other things may change, the laws of nature are permanent. For if our hypotheses have to be abandoned from time to time, it is not the underlying law which is supposed to be capricious, and we do not desist from the search until some more permanent hypothesis is discovered. So to-day the old atomic theory is yielding to a grander generalization as to the structure of matter. 2. Equally zealous is the philosophic student to discover the laws of mind. Persuaded that human life can be unified and explained in terms of reason, he traces through the systems that change from age to age, a pervading and ever clearer principle. Deeper and truer inductions in the realm of pure thought, psychology, or the process of history displace the philosophic structures of the past, which are proving too strait for the amplitude of present knowledge and experience. 3. Truth is a term that is too often narrowed in its range. Truths of science are only a part of the whole of truth; truths of philosophy are only a part of the whole of truth. Both science and philosophy must include in their survey the truths of the other realms of nature before giving forth their final results as the truth. For no part of truth can conflict with any other part of truth. So no hypothesis of science or philosophy is truth if it clashes with the largest meaning of man's life. 4. According to the Bible man is of such supreme value, his essential worth is so great, and his destiny so glorious, that the world of nature is merely the stage on which man's character is disciplined (Ps. 8:3-9; Matt. 6:32, 33; 16:26; 24:35; John 1:1-4, 10; 17:5, 24; Eph. 1:4; Heb. 4:3). Nature is regarded as sympathetic to the crises in the Kingdom of God (Ps. 104:1-10; Matt. 24:29-31; Rom. 8:19-22). Therefore since the purposes of God for the kingdom of humanity are supreme, no scientific or philosophic theory can be correct which conflicts with the principles of God's moral rule. Truth must in its last issue have a spiritual interpretation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Jesus first sent 12, then 70, and finally all believers. We're all sent by God, we all have a sphere of influence, and god wants us to be used in this ministry - not only of sharing the gospel, but of healing the sick, and delivering people from evil spirits. Evil Spirits and how they Operate (2 of 5) Examples of Jesus' ministry of deliverance, how He worked, how He operated, and then some of Jesus' teaching as to what evil spirits are and how they operate. How spirits get into people's lives and the ways they operate, leading into a closer examination of the scriptures around deliverance, and what they reveal about demons, and the spirit world. Some basics of the deliverance ministry, leading into a practice exercise (activation). Gateways for Demonic Spirits (3 of 5) Demons need a 'legal doorway' to enter a persons life. In this session, a check-list of 9 common doorways are explained; and what kinds of things would happen inside a person, as a result of demonic bondage. Curses and How to Deal with Them (4 of 5) For people who have a spiritual world view, blessing and cursing are a great reality. Blessing means there's a flow of spiritual power that brings favour around my life; cursing means there is a flow of spiritual power that obstructs and frustrates and sets me back continually. This session will help you identify when a curse is operating, and how to go about addressing it. This includes a range of heart issues that give legal rights to demons. Jesus came to set us free! Casting out of Spirits (5 of 5) Simple dynamics of how to lead someone through deliverance, including dealing with some issues of the heart where demons are attached. Beautiful examples of healing encounters.
