Book An Analytical Study of Projectile Penetration Into Rock

Download or read book An Analytical Study of Projectile Penetration Into Rock written by Dwain K. Butler and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of a parameter study of projectile pentration into rock using a computer code based on U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station modifications and extensions of the Ross-Hanagud pentration theory, which in turn is based on the dynamic cavity expansion theory of Goodier. The theory treats the projectile as a rigid body and the target as an elastic-plastic locking material. The objectives were to gain (1) a qualitative and quantitative understanding of the factors of importance in rock penetration, (2) a feel for the depths of penetration which may be attainable, and (3) an appreciation for the complexities and uncertainties involved. Such an understanding is essential for the design of penetrating weapons for use against targets in rock or in situations in which, because of incomplete target intelligence, the possibility of encountering rock cannot be eliminated.

Book Empirical Analysis of Projectile Penetration in Rock

Download or read book Empirical Analysis of Projectile Penetration in Rock written by Robert S. Bernard and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The data base consists of normal impact and penetration data for rock (11 tests) and for concrete (12 tests, used as a baseline). The test projectiles had ogive noses, diameters between 76 and 203 mm, masses between 5.9 and 613 kg, and impact velocities from 251 to 809 m/s. The rock penetration equation is given in dimensional form and also in nomogram form. Calculated results are compared with badly scattered bomb penetration data for granite and sandstone. The equation gives about the same result as a least-squares linear fit to the data.

Book Analysis of Projectile Penetration Into Concrete and Rock Targets

Download or read book Analysis of Projectile Penetration Into Concrete and Rock Targets written by Behzad Rohani and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents several examples of penetration calculations for rigid projectiles impacting concrete and rock targets. The calculations were performed with a computer code which is based on the theory of dynamic cavity expansion in an elastic-plastic compressible continuum. The results of the penetration calculations compare favorably with available data from field experiments and with the results from published finite-difference code calculations. The influence of various target material parameters, different initial impact velocities, and projectile size and shape changes on concrete and rock penetration was also assessed. The accuracy and range of application of the penetration model, however, must still be determined experimentally under more diverse impact conditions.

Book World Scientific Handbook Of Experimental Results On High Speed Penetration Into Metals Concrete And Soils

Download or read book World Scientific Handbook Of Experimental Results On High Speed Penetration Into Metals Concrete And Soils written by Gabi Ben-dor and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-08-18 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique compendium contains a vast systematized data of 14,000 experiments on high-velocity penetration into metals, concrete, reinforced concrete, and geological media which were published in the open literature (journal papers, reports, conference proceedings) during the last 70 years. Data presented in this edition are related to the initial and final stages of penetration and include: parameters which characterize mechanical and geometric properties of the striker and the shield; striking and residual velocities of projectile or depth of penetration; changes of mass and size of projectile; angles that determine the initial and residual position of the projectile; ballistic limit velocity; basic characteristics of plug and deformation of the shield.Unified form of data representation and common notations are used throughout the book. All information is presented in numerical form in SI units. The book also contains indices which allow a fast search of the authors' publications and related experiments. Theoreticians, design engineers and experimentalists will find this handbook a valuable reference material.

Book Notes on Projectile Impact Analyses

Download or read book Notes on Projectile Impact Analyses written by Hao Wu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents comprehensive experimental, numerical, and theoretical research on projectile impact analysis, such as the rigid projectile penetration/perforation of concrete and metallic targets, and shaped-charge-formed projectile and jet penetrations. Concrete and metal materials are widely used in protective structures in both civil engineering and armored vehicles, such as military fortifications, underground shelters, infantry fighting vehicles, and tanks, which are designed to withstand intentional or accidental impact loadings caused by projectiles and fragments, and the responses of these targets under projectile impact have been a topic of discussion for several decades. Written for researchers and engineers working in the fields of protective structures and high-speed penetration mechanics, the book is also a valuable reference for senior undergraduate and postgraduate students majoring in defense engineering, terminal ballistics and other related fields.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This conference proceedings brings together the work of researchers and practising engineers concerned with computational modelling of complex concrete, reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures in engineering practice. The subjects considered include computational mechanics of concrete and other cementitious materials, including masonry. Advanced discretisation methods and microstructural aspects within multi-field and multi-scale settings are discussed, as well as modelling formulations and constitutive modelling frameworks and novel experimental programmes. The conference also considered the need for reliable, high-quality analysis and design of concrete structures in regard to safety-critical structures, with a view to adopting these in codes of practice or recommendations. The book is of special interest to researchers in computational mechanics, and industry experts in complex nonlinear simulations of concrete structures.
