Book An Analytic and Experimental Investigation of the Wakes Behind Flapped and Unflapped Wings

Download or read book An Analytic and Experimental Investigation of the Wakes Behind Flapped and Unflapped Wings written by and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytic and experimental program was undertaken to define the near wake structure behind flapped and unflapped wings. The vortex wake structure is determined, given the wing lift and drag distributions with models developed in the spirit of Betz. A procedure to estimate the turbulent kinetic energy distribution in the vortex is also given, as well as a method to determine discrete vortex positions in the downstream wake.

Book Vortex Wakes of Conventional Aircraft

Download or read book Vortex Wakes of Conventional Aircraft written by Coleman duPont Donaldson and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review is made of the present state of our knowledge of the vortex wakes of conventional aircraft. Included are discussions of wake rollup, geometry, instability, and turbulent aging. In the light of these discussions, a brief review is made of the persistence of vortices in the atmosphere, and design techniques which might be used to minimize wake hazard are considered.

Book Experimental Investigation of Wake Velocity Fluctuations Behind Stalled Wings at Reynolds Numbers Up to 4 8 Million

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of Wake Velocity Fluctuations Behind Stalled Wings at Reynolds Numbers Up to 4 8 Million written by Robert F. Smiley and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind tunnel investigation was made of transient wake velocities behind three stalled wings with NACA 0012 airfoils and spans equal to test section width up to a maximum Reynolds number of 4.8 million. Two wings had constant chords of 6 inches and 3 inches and one was tapered with a root chord of 12 inches and a tip chord of 6 inches. Anemometer time-history data were recorded on tape for angles of attack of 16.2 degrees, 21.1 degrees, 25.8 degrees and 30.3 degrees, and were used to evaluate wake geometry, frequency and mean and perturbation velocities for the constant chord wings. Book Flow Modulation and Fluid Structure Interaction at Airplane Wings

Download or read book Flow Modulation and Fluid Structure Interaction at Airplane Wings written by Josef Ballmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research work of the collaborative research center SFB401 Flow Modulation and Fluid-Structure Interaction at Airplane Wings at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) Aachen, which is reported in this book, was pos sible due to the financial support of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The proposal has been approved after evaluation by the referees of DFG selected from other universities and industry, which is gratefully acknowledged. The work is still in progress and now approved to continue until the end of year 2005. More than 50 scientists from universities of the United States, Russia, France, Italy, Japan, Great Britain, Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and research orga nizations NASA, ONERA, NLR, DLR could be invited and have visited the research center, gave seminars on their research on related topics and some of them stayed longer for joined work. Besides its scientific value, also the importance of the pro gram for scientific educa tion becomes evident by looking at the numbers of completed theses, which are up to now about 15 doctoral theses, 40 diploma theses and 70 study theses. The authors of this book acknowledge the valuable support coming from all these persons and institutions. They are especially grateful to the referees having reviewed this work, A. Cohen (Universite Pierre et Marie Curie), J. Cooper (Manchester School of Engineering), W. Devenport (Virginia Tech.), M. Drela (MIT), F. Gern (Avionics Specialties Inc.), A. Griewank (TU Dresden), H. Hönlinger (DLR), P.
