Book Soil Mapping Methods and Applications

Download or read book Soil Mapping Methods and Applications written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1960 the HRB Committee on Surveying, Mapping and Classification of soils decided to determine the present concepts regarding the preparation and use of soil maps by the state highway departments by asking each department to submit a brief statement about its use of soil maps and and the outline of a paper it might present. This is a corss-section of papers by those highway departments.

Book Mapping of the Soil

Download or read book Mapping of the Soil written by Jean-Paul Legros and published by Science Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A treatise on soil cartography, it deals with methods and techniques, use of computers, and application of statistics for mapping soil cover and covers things required for the interpretation of results obtained, and for determining the most economical itinerary to attain that purpose.

Book Digital Soil Mapping with Limited Data

Download or read book Digital Soil Mapping with Limited Data written by Alfred E. Hartemink and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-10-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Signi?cant technological advances have been few and far between in the past approximately one hundred years of soil survey activities. Perhaps one of the most innovative techniques in the history of soil survey was the introduction of aerial photographs as base maps for ?eld mapping, which replaced the conventional base map laboriously prepared by planetable and alidade. Such a relatively simple idea by today’s standards revolutionized soil surveys by vastly increasing the accuracy and ef?ciently. Yet, even this innovative approach did not gain universal acceptance immediately and was hampered by a lack of aerial coverage of the world, funds to cover the costs, and in some cases a reluctance by some soil mappers and cartog- phers to change. Digital Soil Mapping (DSM), which is already being used and tested by groups of dedicated and innovative pedologists, is perhaps the next great advancement in delivering soil survey information. However, like many new technologies, it too has yet to gain universal acceptance and is hampered by ignorance on the part of some pedologists and other scientists. DSM is a spatial soil information system created by numerical models that - count for the spatial and temporal variations of soil properties based on soil - formation and related environmental variables (Lagacheric and McBratney, 2007).

Book Agricultural Compendium

Download or read book Agricultural Compendium written by ILACO B.V. and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agricultural Compendium: For Rural Development in the Tropics and Subtropics focuses on the development of rural resources in the tropics and subtropics, as well as climate, water control, and animal production. The book first offers information on climate and soil and land classification. Topics include phenomena relevant to agricultural meteorology, classification of climate, parent materials of soils, soil fertility and description, land evaluation, and systems of soil classification. The text then takes a look at geodesy, as well as aerial photography, instruments and accessories, measuring methods, and calculation of surfaces. The publication elaborates on water control and land improvement, including surface water and groundwater hydrology, drainage, irrigation, land clearing and leveling, reclamation of saline and alkali soils, and soil improvement. The text then examines agriculture, animal production, fisheries, and farm economics. The manuscript is highly recommended for agriculturists and readers interested in the development of rural resources in the tropics and subtropics.

Book Slope Engineering for Mountain Roads

Download or read book Slope Engineering for Mountain Roads written by Gareth J. Hearn and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2011 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a complete guide to the study, design, construction and management of landslide and slope engineering measures for mountain roads, with emphasis on low-cost. The geographical focus is on the tropics and sub-tropics, but is also highly relevant to other regions where heavy rain, steep slopes and weak soils and rocks combine to create slope instability. The causes and mechanisms of landslides are described, and the hazards they pose to mountain roads are illustrated. Methods of desk study, field mapping and ground investigation are reviewed and illustrated, with emphasis on geomorphological and engineering geological techniques. The design and construction of alignments, earthworks, drainage, retaining structures, the stabilization of soil slopes and rock slopes, and the control of erosion on slopes and in streams covered. Slope management as part of road maintenance and operation is reviewed, and procedures for risk assessment and works prioritization are described.
