Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mutual fund is a mechanism for pooling the resources by issuing units to the investors and investing funds in securities in accordance with their objectives. Investors need to know how risky individual assets are and what their contribution to the total risk of a portfolio would be. Plenty of Mutual Funds are available where the investors can put their money. Before investing they want to know which fund gives more return, which fund is performing well, which fund is more risky etc. In this study the performance evaluation of balanced mutual funds scheme is carried out through risk adjusted performance measure by Sharpe's, Treynor's, Jensen's Index which will ultimately help investors to choose the best mutual fund generating maximum return with minimum risk. Risk and return can be analyzed by finding out Average Return, Standard Deviation and Beta. The data used is monthly closing NAV recorded in the period starting from 1st April 2011 to 31st March 2012. Single year has been taken in the present times; it is tough to take any year as a normal year. The study reveals that private sector has performed better as compared to its counterpart in case of average return, standard deviation and beta. The risk-adjusted performance measures depicted poor performance of the sample schemes but public sector was preferred in this regard.

Book The performance Analysis of German Mutual Funds investing in Small Cap Companies

Download or read book The performance Analysis of German Mutual Funds investing in Small Cap Companies written by Maximilian Wegener and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2014-10-23 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 7.5, Maastricht University, language: English, abstract: The following study examines the performance of mutual funds investing in small cap companies in the period from 1990 until 2013. Therefore, funds investing in small companies in Germany are tested on their ability to deliver risk-adjusted abnormal returns. The returns are risk-adjusted according to Fama French (1996) three-factor model, Carhart four-factor model and the liquidity adjusted five-factor model of Pastor and Stambaugh (2003). A separate examination of the internet crisis 2000 until 2003 and the financial crisis period 2008 until 2013 is done, to assess the ability of fund managers in isolation to examine their results in situations when their skills are most needed. On average, I conclude that fund managers, investing in the small capitalization segment in Germany, are not able to outperform the market even before fees.

Book Swing Pricing and Fragility in Open end Mutual Funds

Download or read book Swing Pricing and Fragility in Open end Mutual Funds written by Dunhong Jin and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2019-11-01 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to prevent runs on open-end mutual funds? In recent years, markets have observed an innovation that changed the way open-end funds are priced. Alternative pricing rules (known as swing pricing) adjust funds’ net asset values to pass on funds’ trading costs to transacting shareholders. Using unique data on investor transactions in U.K. corporate bond funds, we show that swing pricing eliminates the first-mover advantage arising from the traditional pricing rule and significantly reduces redemptions during stress periods. The positive impact of alternative pricing rules on fund flows reverses in calm periods when costs associated with higher tracking error dominate the pricing effect.

Download or read book Mutual Funds written by John A. Haslem and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pdf file includes the forthcoming book table of contents. This book was the culmination of two experiences. The first and basic experience was the some ten years teaching analysis of mutual funds to undergraduates and MBAs at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland. And, what great student teams they were. The several hundred students provided research reports that both improved our knowledge of mutual funds and provided systematic approaches to their analysis and selection. At the time the course was created, it was the first security analysis course dedicated to mutual funds in a collegiate school of business. The second experience was the preparation of Mutual Funds: Risk and Performance Analysis for Decision Making (Blackwell Publishing, 2003). The book's broad perspective includes a detailed analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of mutual funds and a step by step system for their analysis and selection. Analysis of the performance of actively managed funds versus so-called passively-managed index funds was found to favor low-cost index funds. But, the issue remains the subject of continuing debate and sophisticated research.

Book Portfolio Performance Evaluation

Download or read book Portfolio Performance Evaluation written by George O. Aragon and published by Now Publishers Inc. This book was released on 2008 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides a review of the methods for measuring portfolio performance and the evidence on the performance of professionally managed investment portfolios. Traditional performance measures, strongly influenced by the Capital Asset Pricing Model of Sharpe (1964), were developed prior to 1990. We discuss some of the properties and important problems associated with these measures. We then review the more recent Conditional Performance Evaluation techniques, designed to allow for expected returns and risks that may vary over time, and thus addressing one major shortcoming of the traditional measures. We also discuss weight-based performance measures and the stochastic discount factor approach. We review the evidence that these newer measures have produced on selectivity and market timing ability for professional managed investment funds. The evidence includes equity style mutual funds, pension funds, asset allocation style funds, fixed income funds and hedge funds.

Book The Mutual Fund Industry

Download or read book The Mutual Fund Industry written by R. Glenn Hubbard and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2010-04-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mutual funds form the bedrock of retirement savings in the United States, and, considering their rapid growth, are sure to be more critical in the future. Because the size of fees paid by investors to mutual fund advisers can strongly affect the return on investment, these fees have become a contentious issue in Congress and the courts, with many arguing that investment advisers grow rich at the expense of investors. This ground-breaking book not only conceptualizes a new economic model of the mutual fund industry, but also uses this model to test for price competition between investment advisers, evaluating the assertion that market forces fail to protect investors' returns from excessive fees. Highly experienced authors track the growth of the industry over the past twenty-five years and present arguments and evidence both for and against theories of adviser malfeasance. The authors review the regulatory history of mutual fund fees and summarize leading case decisions addressing excessive fees. Revealing the extent to which the governance structure of mutual funds truly impacts fund performance, this book provides the best understanding of today's mutual fund industry and is a vital tool for investors, money managers, fund directors, securities lawyers, economists, and anyone concerned with the regulation of mutual funds.
