Book Airplane Flight Dynamics and Automatic Flight Controls

Download or read book Airplane Flight Dynamics and Automatic Flight Controls written by Jan Roskam and published by DARcorporation. This book was released on 1998 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In this part, exhaustive coverage is provided of the methods for analysis and synthesis of automatic flight control systems using classical control theory. This widely used book has been updated with the latest software methods. Throughout this text, the practical (design) applications of the theory are stressed with many examples and illustrations. Aircraft stability and control characteristics are all heavily regulated by civil as well as by military airworthiness authorities for safety reasons. The role of the these safety regulations in the application of the theory is therefore stressed throughout. Airplane Flight Dynamics & Automatic Flight Controls, Part II, is an essential reference for all aeronautical engineers working in the area of stability and control, regardless of experience levels. The book minimizes reader confusion through a systematic progression of fundamentals: - Elastic airplane stability and control coefficients and derivatives - Method for determining the equilibrium and manufacturing shape of an elastic airplane - Subsonic and supersonic numerical examples of aeroelasticity effects on stability & control derivatives - Bode and root-locus plots with open and closed loop airplane applications, and coverage of inverse applications - Stability augmentation systems: pitch dampers, yaw dampers and roll dampers - Synthesis concepts of automatic flight control modes: control-stick steering, auto-pilot hold, speed control, navigation and automatic landing - Digital control systems using classical control theory applications with Z-transforms - Applications of classical control theory - Human pilot transfer functions." --Descripción del editor.

Book A Wind tunnel Evaluation of Analytical Techniques for Predicting Static Stability and Control Characteristics of Flexible Aircraft

Download or read book A Wind tunnel Evaluation of Analytical Techniques for Predicting Static Stability and Control Characteristics of Flexible Aircraft written by Irving Abel and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental evaluation of analytical techniques for predicting certain stability and control characteristics of a large flexible aircraft is presented. Analytical methods based on both the model approach and flexibility influence coefficients are developed to predict the aerodynamic characteristics of a flexible airplane. These methods are then applied to a flexibly scaled model of a supersonic transport configuration. Comparisons of wind-tunnel data, calculations based on the model approach, and flexibility influence coefficients are presented over the Mach number range from 0.6 to 2.7. An examination of the results obtained from this study indicates that both analytical techniques predict reasonably well the effect of flexibility on the basic longitudinal characteristics and that both techniques give generally comparable results.

Book Determination of Lateral Stability Characteristics from Free flight Model Tests with Experimental Results on the Effects of Wing Vertical Position and Dihedral at Transonic Speeds

Download or read book Determination of Lateral Stability Characteristics from Free flight Model Tests with Experimental Results on the Effects of Wing Vertical Position and Dihedral at Transonic Speeds written by Clarence L. Gillis and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A test and analysis method is presented for determining airplane lateral stability characteristics, including aerodynamic derivatives, from flight tests of scale models. The method of analysis utilizes the rotating time-vector concept and also a quasi-static approach. Data are presented at transonic speeds for three swept-wing rocket-propelled models differing only in vertical position and dihedral of the wing. The method proved to be adequate for delineating the major effects of the geometric variations on the aerodynamic lateral stability derivatives. The effects of Reynolds number on the linearity of the static stability data for an unswept wing configuration are illustrated.

Book A Method for Predicting the Stability in Roll of Automatically Controlled Aircraft Based on the Experimental Determination of the Characteristics of an Automatic Pilot

Download or read book A Method for Predicting the Stability in Roll of Automatically Controlled Aircraft Based on the Experimental Determination of the Characteristics of an Automatic Pilot written by Robert Thomas Jones and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is suggested for predicting the stability of automatically controlled aircraft by a comparison of calculated frequency-response curves for the aircraft and experimentally determined frequency-response curves for the automatic pilot. The method is applied only to stabilization in roll. The method is expected to be useful as a means of establishing the specifications of the performance required of the automatic control devices for pilotless aircraft designed as missiles.

Book Definition and Application of Longitudinal Stability Derivatives for Elastic Airplanes

Download or read book Definition and Application of Longitudinal Stability Derivatives for Elastic Airplanes written by William B. Kemp and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A set of longitudinal stability derivatives for elastic airplanes is defined from fundamental principles allowing perturbations in forward speed. Application of these derivatives to longitudinal stability analysis by use of approximate expressions for static stability and control parameters as well as the dynamic equations of motion is illustrated. One commonly used alternative formulation for elastic airplanes is shown to yield significant inaccuracies because of inappropriate interpretation of inertial effects.
