Book Economic Convergence in Greater China

Download or read book Economic Convergence in Greater China written by Chun Kwok Lei and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2008-12-08 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although China's economy has grown very rapidly in recent decades, there are still very large differences between the economy of mainland China and the economies of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. For example, per capita income in Hong Kong is many, many times higher than per capita income in mainland China. This book considers the degree to which economic convergence between mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan has occurred, and the prospects for increased convergence in the future. It considers economic integration between China and its two Special Administrative Regions (SARS), emphasising the large volume of capital flows and exports, especially from Hong Kong into China, and showing that the economies are highly integrated, despites their differences. It examines income convergence, and changes in productivity, using the same measures for both China and the two SARS, unlike most existing studies. It explores how economic reforms have been crucial to increasing convergence so far, and will continue to be in the future, and concludes by discussing the implications for policy of encouraging increased convergence.

Book Economic Integration of Mainland China and Hong Kong SAR

Download or read book Economic Integration of Mainland China and Hong Kong SAR written by Kui-Wai Li and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1997, when the political sovereignty of Hong Kong reverted to China, the integration of the two economies has steadily increased. This article examines the economic and institutional differences between mainland China and Hong Kong, and considers the spillover benefits for the provinces adjacent to Hong Kong. The economic and productivity growth of mainland China and Hong Kong are decomposed into four attributes: input growth, adjusted scale effect, technical progress, and efficiency growth. A stochastic frontier model is used to estimate the growth attributes, and a human capital variable is incorporated in the production function. The empirical study compares the growth, productivity, and efficiency performance of mainland China and Hong Kong.

Book Towards a Model Sales Law in the Greater Bay Area

Download or read book Towards a Model Sales Law in the Greater Bay Area written by Hao Jiang and published by . This book was released on 2024-09-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the complex system of contract law operating in the Greater Bay Area and examines the independent legal systems of Hong Kong, Macau and China in light of the region's rapid economic integration. The book explores the differences between these systems in theory and in practice, and identifies the challenges and pathways to legal harmonisation in the region. Hao Jiang brings together expert contributors, both from within the region itself and outside of it, to conduct a systematic doctrinal analysis of the region's contract and sales law. Contributing authors assess legal transplants specifically tracing the influence of German civil law on China along with English common law and Portuguese civil law on Hong Kong and Macau. Chapters cover key doctrinal topics where the three laws converge and diverge including contract formation, pre-contractual liability, vitiating factors, good faith, change of circumstances, and remedies. Ultimately, the book highlights how a unified contract and sales law could facilitate cross-border transactions in the region, and lays the foundations for future empirical research on this subject. Providing a comparative study of Chinese, Hong Kong and Macau contract law through the lens of European law, Towards a Model Sales Law in the Greater Bay Area is an essential resource for scholars, students and practitioners of private, sales and contract law.

Book excerpt: This text focuses on the relationship of Hong Kong with the adjacent Chinese province Guangdong, the territories most directly involved in the 1997 transfer of Hong Kong to Chinese rule. The dynamics of the integration process between the two territories is also explored.

Book Hong Kong s Growth Synchronization with China and the U S

Download or read book Hong Kong s Growth Synchronization with China and the U S written by Dong He and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper investigates the synchronization of Hong Kong SAR's economic growth with mainland China and the United States. This paper identifies trends of economic growth based on the permanent income hypothesis. Specifically, the paper confirms whether real consumption in Hong Kong SAR and mainland China satisfy the permanent income hypothesis, at least in a weak form. It then identifies the permanent and transitory components of income of each economy using a simple state-space model. It uses structural vector autoregression models to analyze how permanent and transitory shocks originating from mainland China and the United States affect the Hong Kong economy, and how such influences evolve over time. The paper's main findings suggest that transitory shocks from the United States remain a major driving force behind Hong Kong SAR's business cycle fluctuations. On the other hand, permanent shocks from mainland China have a larger impact on Hong Kong SAR's trend growth.
