Book Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis

Download or read book Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis written by Anthony P. Monaco and published by IRL Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) has provided a very reliable system for separation of DNA fragments greater than 50 kb and has made a significant impact on the analysis of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes. The chapters in this book cover both the theory behind this very important technique and present detailed protocols for many of its major uses. The first chapter describes the basis of PFGE with interesting new insights in modelling how PFGE separates large fragments of DNA. The next two describe the use of PFGE in constructing long range restriction site maps in mammalian genomic DNA and in the detection of gross rearrangements in the DNA of patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. There are four chapters dedicated to the use of PFGE in cloning form, construction of, analysis of, and transfer of yeast artificial chromosomes (YACs). The final two chapters describe the use of PFGE in the analysis of bacterial chromosomes and protozoan parasite chromosomes. This book will therefore be an essential resource book for researchers in laboratories that require PFGE in their research strategies, including those involved in molecular human genetics, mammalian genetics, molecular microbiology, molecular parasitology, biochemistry, and molecular diagnostics.

Book Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis

Download or read book Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis written by Bruce Birren and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis: A Practical Guide is the first laboratory manual to describe the theory and practice of this technique. Based on the authors' experience developing pulsed field gel instruments and teaching procedures, this book provides everything a researcher or student needs to know in order to understand and carry out pulsed field gel experiments. Clear, well-tested protocols assume only that users have a basic familiarity with molecular biology. Thorough coverage of useful data, theory, and applications ensures that this book is also a lasting resource for more advanced practitioners of pulsed field gels. Reviews all types of pulsed field gel electrophoresis Describes all commercially available systems and summarizes advantages and limitations of each Includes step-by-step protocols for sample preparation and analysis Illustrated with photographs that depict How to run gels: What the results should look like What they look like when they go wrong Covers applications to a wide range of organisms Includes bibliography of over 900 publications and cross-referenced by topic, application, and organism

Book Health Effects of Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiations

Download or read book Health Effects of Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiations written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1998-08-04 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US Environmental Protection Agency Office of Radiation and Indoor Air asked the National Research Council to evaluate whether sufficient new data exist to warrant a reassessment of health risks reported in Health Effects of Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiations (BEIR V) in 1990. To respond to this request, the National Research Council assembled the Committee on Health Risks of Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiations. The work of the committee was conducted in what was called the BEIR VII phase-1 study. To assist the committee during its deliberations, various scientists were consulted for advice, and a workshop on the impact of biology on risk assessment was held in collaboration with the Department of Energy Office of Health and Environmental Research. The intent of the workshop was to address the implications of new understanding of the biologic basis of radiation injury and carcinogenesis for risk assessment.

Book Radiation Research A Twentieth century Perspective

Download or read book Radiation Research A Twentieth century Perspective written by J Champan and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiation Research, A Twentieth-Century Perspective, Volume I: Congress Abstracts is a collection of abstracts presented at the Ninth International Congress of Radiation Research convened in Toronto, Canada, organized by the Radiation Research Society and the North American Hyperthermia Group at the invitation of the International Association of Radiation Research. The Toronto venue for this congress recognizes a major role by Canadian scientists in the field of radiation research and also the strong participation of Canadian scientists in the North American Radiation Research Society. Original science is shared at these Congresses through Congress lectures, symposia presentations, and proffered papers. The Congress Board of Directors adopted a proposal that all abstracts of scientific presentations should become a permanent record of the official proceedings of the Congress. In a manner somewhat analogous to the Canadian postal code system, each abstract in this volume is identified at the top left hand corner by a code consisting of both letters and numbers printed on three lines. Line one consists of one letter and two numbers that uniquely identify each scientific event. The second line consists of a double digit number that designates the sequence of presentation within the specific scientific event. The third line consists of a double letter code in which the first letter indicates the day of the week on which abstract material is presented and/or discussed, and the second letter indicates a morning or afternoon session.
