Book excerpt: Sports in the present day have become extremely competitive as the previous records are being broken whenever there is competition. It is not mere the participation or few days of practice that brings an individual victory, but it is the continuous hard work of training right from the childhood, and a strong Anthropometry variables influences the performance. Today’s sports person faces unique challenges. The standards are higher; the competition is tougher, the stakes are greater and the attention overwhelming in these days. Coaches’, physical educationists and sports scientists have always expressed a great need to know more about those Anthropometry variables, which are helpful in improving the motor skill of the players. Today’s world is a world of competition, the rivalry to reach top and excel each other is intense. That every aspect that contributes for the excellence is carefully looked into and one of such aspects is the selection of the right person for the right event in sports and games. Normally the choice of selection is given to a player or the athletes. The players without knowing their inherent potential make wrong choices because of their wrong selection, and hence the individual concerned is not able to reach the top of the ladder (Gangopadhyay, 1993). Man, by nature, is highly competitive and in pursuit of high performance; He/she has always been striving to jump higher and farther, to run faster and to demonstrate greater strength and skill. Physical fitness places emphasis on more and more activity (Uppal, 1992).

Book The Relationship Between Shooting Arch and Shooting Percentage in Basketball

Download or read book The Relationship Between Shooting Arch and Shooting Percentage in Basketball written by Douglas J. Hicks and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the arch of a basketball shot on shooting percentage, and to compare the different types of arch with shooting accuracy from three different ranges of shots. The study was conducted during the 1990-91 basketball season with a group of nineteen intercollegiate basketball players at the community college level selected from Spokane Community College and North Idaho College. The data were collected from a total of 570 shots. All hypotheses were tested for statistical significance at the .05 level. An independent two tailed t test was used to analyze the data. Statistical findings revealed a significant difference between the mean angles of projection of basketball shots made and missed. The made shots had a mean angle of projection of 65.07 degrees and the mean angle of projection of missed shots was 62.61 degrees at three ranges of shots from three feet to nineteen feet six inches. There was also a significant difference between the different mean angles of projection for the different ranges of shots. Short range shots had a much higher angle of projection than mid range or long range shots. This research concludes that teaching a high angle of projection may be beneficial to the success of a player's shooting percentage. The writer also concludes that players should have a knowledge of the different recommended angles of projection for shots at different ranges"--Document.
