Book The Reinhardt Routines by Donald S Reinhardt

Download or read book The Reinhardt Routines by Donald S Reinhardt written by Donald S. Reinhardt and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At last, an organized regimen of Reinhardt routines presented in a manner that builds every aspect of your playing: range, endurance, sound, technique, shakes, breathing, articulation, key fluency, tonguing, slurring, multiple tonguing, consistency . . . it's all here. For years people have been asking for a collection of Reinhardt routines that would work without the benefit of studying with Reinhardt. Most dedicated Reinhardt students know that's a tall order, because you can't just turn a player loose with many of the Reinhardt routines ? every routine had a specific purpose and was assigned at a specific time. Reinhardt knew there was no ?one size fits all? way of teaching brass players. But thanks to Dave Sheetz and Rich Willey, a set of routines has been laid out, about half of which are based on his never-before-published revisions to his Manual of Studies. These comprise a rotating Nine Day plan followed by a series of Supplemental Routines (including Reinhardt's now-famous Warm Up #57), all of which players will benefit from simply by reading the instructions and playing the drills accordingly. The Reinhardt Routines'a total embouchure development plan has what it takes to develop that embouchure you've been dreaming of. It's all laid out for you right here, at last.Forty-four pages, printed on high quality paper, GBC comb-bound with heavy (10 ml.) mylar protective covers.

Download or read book Cultural Memories written by Peter Meusburger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-05-11 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revival of interest in collective cultural memories since the 1980s has been a genuinely global phenomenon. Cultural memories can be defined as the social constructions of the past that allow individuals and groups to orient themselves in time and space. The investigation of cultural memories has necessitated an interdisciplinary perspective, though geographical questions about the spaces, places, and landscapes of memory have acquired a special significance. The essays in this volume, written by leading anthropologists, geographers, historians, and psychologists, open a range of new interpretations of the formation and development of cultural memories from ancient times to the present day. The volume is divided into five interconnected sections. The first section outlines the theoretical considerations that have shaped recent debates about cultural memory. The second section provides detailed case studies of three key themes: the founding myths of the nation-state, the contestation of national collective memories during periods of civil war, and the oral traditions that move beyond national narrative. The third section examines the role of World War II as a pivotal episode in an emerging European cultural memory. The fourth section focuses on cultural memories in postcolonial contexts beyond Europe. The fifth and final section extends the study of cultural memory back into premodern tribal and nomadic societies.

Book The Cambridge History of Modernism

Download or read book The Cambridge History of Modernism written by Vincent Sherry and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-01-11 with total page 1579 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Cambridge History of Modernism is the first comprehensive history of modernism in the distinguished Cambridge Histories series. It identifies a distinctive temperament of 'modernism' within the 'modern' period, establishing the circumstances of modernized life as the ground and warrant for an art that becomes 'modernist' by virtue of its demonstrably self-conscious involvement in this modern condition. Following this sensibility from the end of the nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth, tracking its manifestations across pan-European and transatlantic locations, the forty-three chapters offer a remarkable combination of breadth and focus. Prominent scholars of modernism provide analytical narratives of its literature, music, visual arts, architecture, philosophy, and science, offering circumstantial accounts of its diverse personnel in their many settings. These historically informed readings offer definitive accounts of the major work of twentieth-century cultural history and provide a new cornerstone for the study of modernism in the current century.

Contributions from well-known artists and scholars such as Mieke Bal and Warren Buckland explore a range of media concepts and provide a mirror for the multi-faceted types of screens active in Elsaesser’s work, including the television set, video installation, the digital interface, the mobile phone display, and of course, the hallowed silver screen of our contemporary film culture.

Download or read book The Mind Game Film written by Thomas Elsaesser and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-28 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the culmination of Thomas Elsaesser’s intense and passionate thinking about the Hollywood mind-game film from the previous two decades. In order to answer what the mind-game film is, why they exist, and how they function, Elsaesser maps the industrial-institutional challenges and constraints facing Hollywood, and the broader philosophic horizon within which American cinema thrives today. He demonstrates how the ‘Persistence of Hollywood’ continues as it has adapted to include new twists and turns, as well as revisions of past concerns, as film moves through the 21st century. Through examples such as Minority Report, Mulholland Drive, Source Code, and Back to the Future, Elsaesser explores how mind-game films challenge us and play games with our perception of reality, creating skepticism and (self-) doubt. He also highlights the mind-game film's tendency to intervene in a complex fashion in the political moment by questioning the dominant power’s intent to program both body and mind alike. Prescient and compelling, The Mind-Game Film will appeal to students, scholars, and enthusiasts of media studies, film studies, philosophy, and politics.

Book Brass Performance and Pedagogy

Download or read book Brass Performance and Pedagogy written by Keith Johnson and published by Pearson. This book was released on 2002 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This complete book presents an approach to playing and teaching brass instruments that is based on the fundamental skills of good listening and good respiratory practices. It emphasizes the importance of developing these and other traditional skills--such as embouchure development, articulation, tone quality, range and stamina--through musical ideas rather than isolating on individual muscular behavior. Careful attention is paid to the natural way in which learning takes place in other skills and shows how such processes may be applied to learning to play a brass instrument. Chapter topics cover the art of teaching, listening, developing a concept of sound, posture, breathing, mouthpiece playing, the warm-up, slurring, intonation, endurance, taking auditions, playing high pitched instruments, performance anxiety, and professional ethics. For teachers who deal with brass students at all stages of development.
