Book An American Liaison

Download or read book An American Liaison written by Bryan Homer and published by Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1855 the Hawthornes came to Leamington Spa for the first time. This book presents an almost day-by-day account of the family's life during three periods of residence in Leamington. It also relates how they amused and instructed themselves in the thriving Spa town and its attractive surrounding countryside, making trips to such well-known "tourist traps" as Coventry, Warwick, Rugby, Kenilworth, and Stratford-upon-Avon. Unfortunately, for several reasons, to a large extent the subsequent and much-anticipated return to their home in Concord, Massachusetts, in 1860 did not result in any real benefit.

Book excerpt: “Tragic, operatic, touching, and hilarious . . . Liaison is about romantic love in its purest, craziest form—proof anew that the greatest erogenous zone is the mind.”—Shana Alexander The true story that inspired David Hwang's play “M Butterfly”, about a French diplomat, Bernard Boursicot, posted to Peking, who fell in love with a seductive opera singer, named Shi Pei Pu, apparently unaware that Pei Pu was a man. Their liaison "produced" a son, and led them into espionage and finally to gaol in France. Joyce Wadler spent four years researching the story, and finally persuaded Boursicot to break his silence and explain his side of the story. NOTE: This edition does not include photos.

Book Approaches to Liaison Librarianship

Download or read book Approaches to Liaison Librarianship written by Robin Canuel and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Liaison librarianship is a well-established system for framing the work and organizational structures of an academic library to effectively meet the needs of faculty and students. But despite its rich history, the precise meaning of liaison librarianship remains somewhat fluid--the size and nature of an academic institution, the library's financial and human resources, and the diversity and size of local programs are only some of the variables that librarians must take into consideration when evaluating a specific liaison model for their library, how to implement it, and how its success will be assessed. Approaches to Liaison Librarianship showcases a number of different implementations of the liaison model, across a range of institutions, and describes in detail many of the tailored programs and services that liaison librarians are so well-positioned to provide" -- Publisher's description.
