Book Atmospheric Attenuation Model 1964 in the Ultraviolet Visible and Infrared Regions for Altitudes to 50 Km

Download or read book Atmospheric Attenuation Model 1964 in the Ultraviolet Visible and Infrared Regions for Altitudes to 50 Km written by L. Elterman and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A model of a clear standard atmosphere, for determing attenuation in the ultraviolet, the visible, and the infrared windows, is derived. The derivation is based on a Rayleigh atmosphere combined with aerosol and ozone components. The format of the model is a series of tabulations for 22 wavelengths with Rayleigh, aerosol, and ozone components arrayed at kilometer intervals to an altitude of 50 kilometers. Exploratory calculations pertaining to horizontal, vertical, and slant-path transmission from sea level, transmission between two altitudes and transmission to space are readily made from the tabulations. Because of its more extensive coverage and improved computational programming, this report, including the tabulations, fully replaces the earlier publication, 'A Model of a Clear Standard Atmosphere for Attenuation in the Visible Region and IYNFRARED Windows, ' by this author.

This book was released on 2006-08-29 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the first comprehensive analysis of how aerosols form in the atmosphere through in situ processes as well as via transport from the surface (dust storms, seas spray, biogenic emissions, forest fires etc.). Such an analysis has been followed by the consideration of both observation data (various field observational experiments) and numerical modeling results to assess climate impacts of aerosols bearing in mind that these impacts are the most significant uncertainty in studying natural and anthropogenic causes of climate change.

Book Digital Image Processing of Remotely Sensed Data

Download or read book Digital Image Processing of Remotely Sensed Data written by R.M. Hord and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1982-01-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital Image Processing of Remotely Sensed Data presents a practical approach to digital image processing of remotely sensed data, with emphasis on application examples and algorithms. It explains where to get the data and what is available and what preprocessing is needed to prepare the imagery for processing. Research topics are described to indicate the limitations of computer methods. This book is comprised of seven chapters and begins with a summary of basic concepts used in remote sensing and digital imagery, followed by a discussion on sources of remotely sensed data. Two essential hardware ingredients in a digital image processing system, a computer and a display device, are then considered, along with the algorithms used in digital image processing. Examples of how digital image processing algorithms have been applied to real imagery for specific objectives are given, including the Kentucky water impoundment experiment and the land-use mapping initiative in Washington, D.C. The next section is devoted to research topics such as digital image shape detection; edge detection and regionalized terrain classification from satellite photography; and digital image enhancement for maximum interpretability using linear programming. This monograph will be of value to professional regional planners, natural resource managers, and others in fields ranging from hydrology and forestry to agronomy and geology.

Book An Introduction To Solar Radiation

Download or read book An Introduction To Solar Radiation written by Muhammad Iqbal and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to Solar Radiation is an introductory text on solar radiation, with emphasis on the methods of calculation for determining the amount of solar radiation incident on a surface on the earth. Topics covered include the astronomical relationship between the sun and the earth; thermal radiation; the solar constant and its spectral distribution; and extraterrestrial solar irradiation. This book is comprised of 12 chapters and begins with an overview of the trigonometric relationships between the sun-earth line and the position of an inclined surface, followed by a discussion on the characteristics of blackbody radiation. The next chapter focuses on the solar constant and its spectral distribution, paying particular attention to extraterrestrial solar spectral irradiance and the sun's blackbody temperature. Subsequent chapters explore extraterrestrial and radiation incident on inclined planes; the optics of a cloudless-sky atmosphere; solar spectral radiation and total (broadband) radiation under cloudless skies; and solar radiation arriving at horizontal surfaces on the earth through cloudy skies. The ground albedo and its spectral and angular variation are also described, along with insolation on inclined surfaces. The last chapter is devoted to instruments for measuring solar radiation, including pyrheliometers and pyranometers. This monograph will serve as a useful guide for energy analysts, designers of thermal devices, architects and engineers, agronomists, and hydrologists as well as senior graduate students.
