Book Energy Aware and Adaptive Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Energy Aware and Adaptive Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent technological advances have enabled distributed micro-sensing for large scale information gathering through a network of tiny, low power devices or nodes equipped with programmable computing, multiple sensing and communication capabilities. This network of sensor nodes, known as a wireless sensor network, has revolutionized remote monitoring applications because of its ease of deployment, ad hoc connectivity and cost-effectiveness. In this dissertation, we design distributed routing protocols for minimizing energy consumption in a sensor network. There are two main contributions of this work. The first contribution is the design of an energy aware multiple path routing protocol to route heavy data traffic between a source and a destination node in a sensor network. The protocol spreads the routing load between the source and destination nodes over a large number of sensor nodes to minimize disparity in the energy levels of the sensor nodes. We also grade the multiple paths based on their route length to support time critical queries on the shortest available paths. The second contribution is the design of a communication architecture that supports distributed query processing to evaluate spatio-temporal queries within the network. We represent these queries by query trees and distribute query operators to appropriate sensor nodes. As operator execution demands high computation capability, we propose use of a heterogenous sensor network where query operators are assigned to sparsely deployed resource-rich nodes within a dense network of low power sensor nodes. We design an adaptive, decentralized, low communication overhead algorithm to determine an operator placement on the resource-rich nodes in the network to minimize cost of transmitting data in the routing tree constructed to continuously retrieve data from a set of spatially distributed geographical regions to the sink. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to build an energy aware routing infrastructure to enable in-network processing of spatio-temporal queries. In order to maximize energy savings the proposed multiple path routing protocol can be used to route data between the nodes that form the routing tree.

Download or read book Energy Aware Store and Forward Scheme for Rechargeable Sensor Networks written by Rohit Rajendra Kale and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work involves the design of an energy aware adaptive algorithm which tries to reduce current consumption in solar powered wireless sensor nodes. This proposed algorithm is optimized for use in solar powered MICAz nodes performing surface temperature monitoring. Laboratory results indicate significant current savings under low voltage conditions which can provide an extended lifetime of 23 hours compared to periodic non-adaptive algorithm. Current consumption model is also developed, this can estimate the lifetime of a sensor network without replacement of batteries. The proposed algorithm is implemented in an experimental wireless sensor network that is deployed in a power substation for equipment health monitoring. We present the results from the experimental deployment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power consumption becomes the most important design goal in a wide range of electronic systems. There are two driving forces towards this trend: continuing device scaling and ever increasing demand of higher computing power. First, device scaling continues to satisfy Moore’s law via a conventional way of scaling (More Moore) and a new way of exploiting the vertical integration (More than Moore). Second, mobile and IT convergence requires more computing power on the silicon chip than ever. Cell phones are now evolving towards mobile PC. PCs and data centers are becoming commodities in house and a must in industry. Both supply enabled by device scaling and demand triggered by the convergence trend realize more computation on chip (via multi-core, integration of diverse functionalities on mobile SoCs, etc.) and finally more power consumption incurring power-related issues and constraints. Download or read book Artificial Intelligence Based Energy Aware Routing Protocol AIEARP for Wireless Sensor Network written by Dr. Pooja Singh and published by Shineeks Publishers. This book was released on 2022-11-16 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current progress in Wireless Sensor Network has taken to various new protocols formed especially for sensor networks in where the energy awareness is a necessary deliberation. Wireless Sensor Network is highly accessible for significant applications namely surveillance of security and environmental monitoring. The researchers all over the world are investigating about the most important parameter of wireless sensor network i.e. Energy. The main emphasis is given over the efficiency of energy as the energy saved by the wireless sensor network is less and the consumption of energy is high and this is the main reason behind the lifetime network depletion at a fast pace. There in the sensor nodes one more challenge is exhibited that is of the limited power capacity, so for the same the battery should be either charged or changed as there are several functions which are to be performed by the energy of the sensor nodes being aggregation, sensing and transmission of data and on board processing. Majorly, the energy is consumed by the wireless data transmission among the nodes and more energy is consumed as compared to the other sensing and processing operations of data. The high energy is consumed because the data is transmitted over a large distance as the nodes are located far from each other. Further, the collision, overhearing and idle listening of the nodes are the major reasons behind the high wastage of energy during the transmission and the communication of data. There are several applications, in which the nodes are disregarded, and thus worsening the failure of nodes and enhancing the problem of high energy consumption. The success of the application is dependent over the network lifetime and the exchange or the recharging of the batteries is costly as well as not feasible. Therefore, the attention of the researchers is seeking towards usage and the consumption of the energy. Further, the development of such energy efficient network should be done which should cover and provide solution for all the above mentioned challenges so that the utility of the wireless sensor networks is enhanced in the applications related to it. The main intention of this study and book is to investigate in detail about the concept “An Intelligent Energy Aware Routing Protocol using Data Fusion Technique in Wireless Sensor Networks”. Significance of the Book: This book convers and discusses about previous studies carried out in the area of data fusion and the crucial issue in energy reduction of the sensor modes during the data fusion. The main objectives of this book a) To analyze the energy aware routing protocol in wireless sensor network; b) To examine the maximum energy consumption for routing process to sustain long life batter power in wireless sensor network.; c) To analyze the routing protocol enhancement by applying data fusion technique; d)To explore the routing protocol enhancement by applying data fusion technique; e)To propose an algorithm to integrate data fusion technique to enhance the consumption of energy. This book study is constrained to wireless sensor networks and limited to data fusion technique. Book An Energy aware and Policy adaptive Protocol in Wireless Sensor Network

Download or read book An Energy aware and Policy adaptive Protocol in Wireless Sensor Network written by Hui Chang and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent work in designing of routing protocols in wireless sensor networks has progressed in an interesting direction, namely energy efficient protocol for a common objective of prolonging the network lifetime. However, there is a lack of research on policy-adaptive aspects to manage the network from the application point of view. We introduce a tentative yet pertinent solution in two directions. First, we proposed an energy-aware protocol to make the energy balanced in the network without generating "hot-spot" areas which leads to longer network lifetime because the node survives longer. Second, we designed a policy-adaptive framework with reactive (on-demand) routing by adopting policy restraints of applications in making routing choices. We validated our protocol using NS2 simulation tool and have shown that the protocol indeed balances energy and builds an effective routing schema with policy-adaptive routing while extending the lifetime of the whole network.

Book Certain Power Management Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks by Energy Efficient Data Transmission Security and Node Deployment

Download or read book Certain Power Management Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks by Energy Efficient Data Transmission Security and Node Deployment written by Linoy A Tharakan and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-02-12 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2017 in the subject Electrotechnology, grade: PhD, , course: Doctor of Philosophy, language: English, abstract: Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is fast emerging as prominent study area that attracting considerable research attention globally. The field has seen tremendous development in design and development of application related interfaces with sensor networks. Sensor network finds applications in several domains such as medical, military, home networks, space and so on. Many researchers strongly believe that WSNs can become as important as the internet in the near future. Just as the internet allows access to digital information anywhere, WSNs could easily provide remote interaction with the physical world. It is going to be the backbone of Ubiquitous Computing (UBICOMP).Through local collaboration among sensors, elimination of duplicate data, participation of relevant nodes in the given task etc. can produce a significant difference in energy conservation, thereby increasing the life time of the sensor network. As the number of nodes increases, data security becomes the most challenging part of the network. The intruders can hack the data any time during processing, transmission or at the receiver end. So, as a popular approach data encryption is the most commendable approach in today’s network. Asymmetric key encryption consumes more energy in processing and so not recommended for WSNs. Symmetric key encryption gives better performance with respect to asymmetric key encryption in WSN applications. It uses less computational power due to relatively effortless mathematical operations, and eventually spends less power. This thesis also proposes a symmetric data encryption through Tabulation method of Boolean function reductionfor the WSNs for secure data transmission. It also suggests a new secure approach, SEEMd, Security Enabled Energy Efficient Middleware algorithmfor the critical data sensing and gives a second chance to the nodes before it falls into to sleep mode for energy management. WSNs are designed for applications which range from small-size healthcare surveillance systems to large-scale agricultural monitoring or environmental monitoring. Thus, any WSN deployment, data aggregation, processing and communication have to assure minimum Quality of Service (QoS) in the network from application to application. In this circumstances, the proposed algorithms in this thesis proved to be efficient and reliable in energy saving and life time enhancement.

Book Energy Efficient Mobile Device Assisted Schemes In Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Energy Efficient Mobile Device Assisted Schemes In Wireless Sensor Networks written by Qiyue Wu and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, wireless sensor networks (WSNs), consisted of battery-powered sensor nodes, are widely adopted by various civilian/military applications for implementing real-time monitoring or long-term surveillance tasks. One of the critical issues of WSNs is energy efficiency. Due to the limited battery capacity, the network lifetime and performance of WSNs are constrained. Also, once the sensor is deployed into a risky/remote environment, the replacement of its battery is hard. Therefore, how to improve the energy efficiency of the WSN is a critical issue and has gained tremendous attention from researchers around the world. To address this problem, by taking advantage of the emerging high-mobility devices (e.g., unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)), we propose energy-efficient mobile device-assisted schemes in different-scale WSNs. Thanks to the rapid development of wireless techniques, two emerging approaches, i.e., data gathering technique and wireless charging technique, are beneficial to balance the workloads among all sensors or replenish energy to achieve the semi-permanent WSN. First, we design data gathering schemes using the mobile data collector. In order to meet the performance requirements of systems with different scales, our algorithms have two working modes: single- and multiple-data-collector scenarios. For the small-scale system, a single data collector is adopted to access and collect data from the deployed node, and we propose single mobile data collector-assisted (SDCA) data collection schemes for small-scale WSNs. For the large-scale system, multiple data collectors are utilized to gather sensed data from deployed nodes, and two-mode multiple mobile data collector-assisted (MDCA) data collection scheme is designed for balancing between the system energy consumption and the data forwarding latency. Second, the joint data collection and energy charging scheme is developed by adopting mobile chargers (MCs) as mobile devices that are responsible for energy charging and data collection simultaneously. For facing the different performance requirements of systems, a two-mode MC scheduling algorithm is presented. To evaluate our works, extensive simulation experiments are conducted on the OMNeT++ simulator. The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms achieve better performance than the control group regarding system-wide energy efficiency, network lifetime and average end-to-end delay.

Book Lifetime Maximizing Adaptive Power Control in Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Lifetime Maximizing Adaptive Power Control in Wireless Sensor Networks written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Network lifetime is one of the most critical performance measures for wireless sensor networks. Various schemes have been proposed to maximize the network lifetime. In this paper, the authors consider the lifetime maximization problem via a new approach: adaptive power control. They focus on the sensor networks that consist of a sink and a set of homogeneous wireless sensor nodes, which are randomly deployed according to a uniform distribution. Each node has the same initial energy and the same data generation rate. They formally analyze the lifetime maximizing adaptive power control problem by dividing the network into different layers and then modelling it as a linear programming problem, where the goal is to find an optimal way to adjust the transmission power and split the traffic such that the maximum energy consumption speed among all layers is minimized, and therefore the network lifetime is maximized. One surprising observation from the numerical results is that when every node can reach the sink directly, the optimal solution for each node is to send traffic either to its next inner layer or to the sink directly. This observation also has been justified by the theoretical analysis. The numerical results show that the lifetime elongation can still be significant even when only those nodes in the innermost few layers are allowed to adaptively adjust their transmission power. The authors then propose a fully distributed algorithm, the Energy-Aware Push Algorithm (EAPA), and show through simulation that it can dramatically extend the network lifetime.
