Book Trail Bicycling in Canadian and American National Parks

Download or read book Trail Bicycling in Canadian and American National Parks written by Shirley Joan Bouchard and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research project focuses on the land access controversy of allowing the use of mountain bikes on the various trail systems in American and Canadian National parks. A case study was undertaken between Canadian and American National parks, so as to study the policies that are cited as the mainstay for the different parks and the way in which they are enforced as they best benefit the individual park management plans towards the use of trail bicycles in and around the parks in question. In Canada, there has been an increase in the type of trail cycling. In the past, cycling was limited to day excursions in town and on trails. With the advent of lighter, sturdier and generally more reliable bikes, trail cycling has become more diversified and extensive. Cycling trails can be developed within the National parks so that minimum damage will be done to the park resources by choosing areas capable of supporting heavy recreational use. It is indicated that most practitioners of trail bicycling are those who have been traditionally predisposed to outdoor pursuits and who have a healthy irreverence for convention. Trail bicycles in National parks is a new sport that has yet to carve out a niche for itself in the National Park system. With an analysis of the various park policies, trail bicycles may or may not finally find a place to go.
