This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Siege of Quebec and the Battle of the Plains of Abraham: A Reply to the Editor of Old and New There is another side to this question. There are writers who, while giving, a certain share of the credit to Wolfe, claim that the first idea of landing on the north shore was the Brigadiers. But this is disproved by Wolfe's letter written while on his way from Halifax to Quebec, wherein he said I reckon we shall have a smart action at the passage of the St. Charles unless we can steal a detachment up the river St. Lawrence, and land them 3-4-5 miles, or more. Above the town. We might cite other instances, but those given are sufficient to show that these well known writers and accepted authorities had no knowledge either of the letter of the three brigadiers or of the last letters of Wolfe, which dispose of this vexed question forever. In the pages of the Siege of Quebec it is shown that during the latter part of August, Wolfe was too ill to attend to the direction of affairs, and that he asked his Brigadiers to consult for the good of the service. The Brigadiers proposed a plan to which Wolfe agreed, giving his reasons to Saunders for so doing in these words My ill state of health hinders me from executing my own plan it is Of too desperate a nature to order others to execute. The generals seem to think alike as to the operations. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
