Body moderately slender, with the anterior division oblong oval in form, greatest width not nearly attaining half the length and occurring somewhat behind the middle; dorsal face only Slightly vaulted. Cephalosome nearly as long as the exposed part of the trunk, and exhibiting behind the middle dorsally a distinct transverse suture; anterior extremity narrowly rounded. Rostral filaments of moderate length and abruptly reflexed. Last trunkal segment completely coalesced with the preceding one; lateral lobes triangularly produced, and extending somewhat beyond the middle of the genital segment. Urosome comparatively short, scarcely exceeding in length of the anterior division; genital segment only slightly protuberant below, and about the length of the 2 succeeding segments combined; anal segment very small. Caudal rami scarcely longer than they are broad; apical setat well developed and somewhat divergent, the innermost but one, as usual, considerably longer than the others. Anterior antennae rather elongated, ex tending, when reflexed, to the end of the caudal rami. Posterior antennae and oral parts almost exactly as in X. Fallax. Natatory legs likewise of a very Similar structure, though having the spinules of the inner ramus fewer in number. Last pair of legs, however, rather unlike those in the said species, the outer 2 joints being, as in X. Borealis, completely coalesced to an elongated some what curved piece armed at the end with only 3 comparatively short, subequal Spines, edges of the piece nearly smooth, with only a few cilia at the outer curvature. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 1058 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Account of the Crustacea of Norway, With Short Descriptions and Figures of All the Species, Vol. 5: Copepoda Harpacticoida; Parts 1 and 2, Misophriidæ, Longipediidæ, Cerviniidæ, Ectinosomidæ (Part) The cephalosome is generally coalesced with the lst segment of the meta some, though in some few forms a well-marked demarcation between them may be found to exist. The lateral parts of this section are more or less expanded, being so deep in some forms, e. G. The genus Longipcdia, that they wholly include between them the oral appendages. It projects in front in a more or less distinct, generally lamellar rostrum, which in most cases is movably connected with the cephalic shield. The 3 succeeding segments of the metasome are always well defined, and are provided with more or less distinct epimeral plates. The last segment of the metasome, as stated above, has always a very movable articulation with the preceding segment, whereas it is firmly connected with the lst segment of the urosome. Its epimeral plates are generally obsolete, or at any rate much smaller than on the preceding segments. The urosome is composed of 5 segments. The first 2 of which, however, in the female are more or less completely coalesced, though in some forms a distinct suture between them is seen dorsally. In the male these 2 segments are always distinctly separated, and the lst of them pro jects at the end, on each side of the ventral face, to a small setiferous process. The caudal rami are in most cases short, and firmly connected with the last caudal segment. Of the apical setae, as a rule, only the 2 middle ones are well developed, the others being more or loss rudimentary. A single eye is generally present, though in some forms, especially in those from deep water, no trace of such an organ is to be found.
