This book was released on 2018-01-12 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000: Pesticides and other agricultural chemicals are in use in virtually every country in the world. It is therefore useful and important to those involved with these chemicals to have a collection of data concerning the substances most commonly used for agricultural purposes. This Handbook includes data on over 1,800 substances, including a number of mixtures, which are important in agriculture. Almost all records describing pure chemicals carry the appropriate CAS Registry Number and the associated EINECS Number. All chemicals in this edition which also appear in the twelfth edition of the Merck Index have the Merck Index Number provided. Wherever possible, the following information is also provided for each entry: definitions, classifications, chemical composition, functions, applications, suppliers, melting point, boiling point, density or specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation, ultraviolet absorption, solubility, and acute toxicity.

Download or read book Heme and Hemoproteins written by K.W. Bock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of the biological effects of foreign chemicals (whether therapeutic drugs or chemicals present at work or in the environment) interests the biologist from a number of different and complementary viewpoints. Apart from the more obvious pharmacological and toxicological interest, the experimentalist often uses foreign chemicals to produce in experimental animals disease states similar to naturally occurring diseases, so that their pathogenetic mechanisms and therapy can be studied under controlled conditions. In addition - as Claude Bernard pointed out over a century ago - foreign chemicals can be employed as instruments to analyze the most delicate vital processes; much can be learned about the physiological processes themselves by a careful study of the mechanisms by which these are altered by chemicals. The field of heme and hemoproteins offers an example of the interplay of these different approaches. Their metabolism can be altered by therapeutic drugs and other foreign chemicals and this results in a variety of biological responses that transcend the boundaries of pharmacology into the confines of clinical medi cine, genetics, toxicology, biochemistry and physiology. In this book a multidisciplinary approach to the study of heme metabolism is presented including the effect of chemicals on heme metabolism in patients, the results of experimental work in the whole animal, as well as in vitro studies.

Book Mechanisms of Injury in Renal Disease and Toxicity

Download or read book Mechanisms of Injury in Renal Disease and Toxicity written by Robin Goldstein and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Goldstein has authored more than 50 publications and co-edited two books. Her latest contribution to the field of nephrology, Mechanisms of Injury in Renal Disease and Toxicity, promotes an understanding of the pathophysiologic mechanisms mediating renal dysfunction in disease. It provides an important perspective in understanding mechanisms of chemically induced renal injury. Over the past decade, understanding of the pathophysiologic and molecular basis of renal disease has grown tremendously. New and evolving concepts on the pathophysiology of glomerulonephritis, chronic glomerular injury, diabetic nephropathy, and acute renal failure are changing the clinical management of these disease states.

Book Microsomes and Drug Oxidations

Download or read book Microsomes and Drug Oxidations written by James R. Gillette and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microsomes and Drug Oxidations documents the proceedings of symposium on microsomes and drug oxidations held at Bethesda, Maryland, 16-17 February 1968. The theme of the symposium centered on the morphology of the liver endoplasmic reticulum, the localization of enzyme systems, the mechanisms for regulating enzyme activity, and the mechanisms of enzyme action. The results of this symposium presented in this book illustrate the complexity of the enzyme systems under investigation and the multiplicity of the variables altering their function. It is hoped the information presented will serve as a stimulus to other investigators in the elucidation of these problems. The book contains 27 papers organized into four parts. The papers in Part I examine the morphological and biochemical characteristics of microsomes. Part II presents studies on electron transfer components. Part III examines alterations of microsomal enzymes while Part IV focuses on drugs and protein synthesis.

Book Biological Oxidation Systems V1

Download or read book Biological Oxidation Systems V1 written by C.C. Reddy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological Oxidation Systems, Volume I is a collection of papers presented at the 1989 Bangalore Symposium on Oxygen Systems. These parts examine the biochemical aspects, reaction kinetics, and reaction mechanisms of such reactions. Parts III and IV describe first the structure function and properties of copper-containing oxidases and oxygenases. These parts also discuss the role of nonheme iron-containing and other oxygenases in the indole metabolism. Part V focuses on the role of peroxidase enzymes in cell protection and metabolism. This book will prove useful to biologists, enzyme scientists, and researchers.
