Book Smooth Criminal

Download or read book Smooth Criminal written by Bill Deane and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David T. Riley dreamt big. His desire to be a superstar recording artist led the adolescent hoodlum into the fringes of organized crime. Ironically though, it was a failed extortion attempt at the Coral Gables bus station that landed him in jail where he found his calling in June of 1960. When the CIA needed recruits to carry out dangerous spying missions to Cuba, their Ivy League educated agents would rather not do themselves, they found Riley languishing in a light green jumpsuit in Miami Dade County Jail awaiting trial. Street-smart, confident to the point of being cocky and extremely intelligent, the Agency believed he'd be able to talk his way out of any situation. Trained by the Feds to operate in a complex world of international crime, David became one of the Agency's top operatives. The CIA's use for him eventually waned, and with skills learned through covert work, Riley afforded himself an extensive career in gunrunning, drug dealing, fraud and embezzlement. SMOOTH CRIMINAL, A One-Man American Crime Wave exposes how the Government's secret release of criminals to conduct dangerous overseas assignments backfires when they return home.

The book motivates the more technical aspects of the theory through a set of illustrative examples. The results include the solution of Whitney's problem, an efficient algorithm for a finite version, and analogues for Hölder and Sobolev spaces in place of Cm. The target audience consists of graduate students and junior faculty in mathematics and computer science who are familiar with point set topology, as well as measure and integration theory. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original 245 page book was written May 1986, along with the songs, from the creative mind of a young writer, Michele' Williams. The storyline was written before many African-American authors of today were given the opportunity to write or publish many of their literary works. The author has decided to keep the original 1986 setting and written content, for the reading of those who are not afraid to read into the world, just as it really is. Much of the material and content is virtually the same. Yet it is enhanced with the obedience and perfectly right timing, that has been allowed by God. Why? To help many other young souls that are in this same walk receive deliverance. The characters: Meet Shelley, a young black female who is going through a divorce from her husband that she married for mere convenience and NOT love. She then met and was consumed by a young man, who literally mastered the art of being a SMOOTH TALKER: Meet Franklin. The thought of being young, naïve, manipulated and controlled by a man never crossed her mind, because she always had her guard up. But his ways were smooth, calculating and charming, which regretfully stole her heart and soul. In 2008, the award-winning Inspirational Gospel Stage Play - SMOOTH TALKER (He's Good At What He Does) portrays Shelley as a free-spirited female, who was supported by a whole cast of close, funny and wise friends who were there to help her get through this unbelievable relationship phase, including her soon-to-be ex-husband, CJ. With a twist of many fates, she endured much, to find the most rewarding end, one could have ever imagined. You too, will be surprised with the ending in the book, play, audio cd and film, as the storyline tells of what it is to be trapped in a relationship filled with love, lying and deceit! Such a riveting novel!!

Book Into a Light Both Brilliant and Unseen

Download or read book Into a Light Both Brilliant and Unseen written by Malin Pereira and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malin Pereira's collection of eight interviews with leading contemporary African American poets offers an in-depth look at the cultural and aesthetic perspectives of the post-Black Arts Movement generation. This volume includes unpublished interviews Pereira conducted with Wanda Coleman, Yusef Komunyakaa, Thylias Moss, Harryette Mullen, Cornelius Eady, and Elizabeth Alexander, as well as conversations with Rita Dove and Cyrus Cassells previously in print. Largely published since 1980, each of these poets has at least four books. Their influence on new generations of poets has been wide-reaching. The work of this group, says Pereira, is a departure from the previous generation's proscriptive manifestos in favor of more inclusive voices, perspectives, and techniques. Although these poets reject a rigid adherence to a specific black aesthetic, their work just as effectively probes racism, stereotyping, and racial politics. Unlike Amiri Baraka's claim in "Home" that he becomes blacker and blacker, positioning race as a defining essence, these poets imagine a plurality of ideas about the relationship between blackness and black poetry. They question the idea of an established literary canon defining black literature. For these poets, Pereira says, the idea of "home" is found both in black poetry circles and in the wider transnational community of literature. A Sarah Mills Hodge Foundation Publication.

Book Who Said I d Never Dance Again

Download or read book Who Said I d Never Dance Again written by Darla Davies and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-04 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who Said I’d Never Dance Again? is a story of determination and resiliency that inspires and gives hope to anyone who might be facing joint-replacement surgery. Facing hip replacement surgery can be frightening and depressing for anyone—especially a competitive athlete enjoying success—and picking up a book about what lies ahead can be downright daunting. There are countless stories of athletes who have had career-ending injuries and surgeries. Until recently, no one watching competition dancers imagined that someone with an artificial hip could move so deftly on the dance floor. Many viewers don’t have the physical ability, flexibility, or stamina to dance with their own joints, let alone an implanted one. Who Said I’d Never Dance Again? is the first book about ballroom dancing to address a painful, yet victorious comeback after joint replacement surgery, and the rigorous physical and mental strength required to make it happen. Ballroom dancer, Darla Davies shares her story as the only competitive athlete and ballroom dancer to claim the United States Pro Am American Smooth Championship title, succumb to hip replacement surgery, and then fight back to regain the national championship in less than three years. Who Said I’d Never Dance Again? teaches readers the warning signs for hip replacement, how to alleviate the fear of facing surgery, dos and don’ts after surgery, how to restore joy, passion, and fire after an enormous physical setback, and more! Darla’s quest for athletic victory gives readers a glimpse of the less glamorous side of ballroom dance competitions and shows all athletes that it’s never too late and that no one is ever too old to pursue their dream.

Book excerpt: Click here to listen to Julia Ericksen's interview about Dance with Me on Philadelphia NPR's "Radio Times" Rumba music starts and a floor full of dancers alternate clinging to one another and turning away. Rumba is an erotic dance, and the mood is hot and heavy; the women bend and hyperextend their legs as they twist and turn around their partners. Amateur and professional ballroom dancers alike compete in a highly gendered display of intimacy, romance and sexual passion. In Dance With Me, Julia Ericksen, a competitive ballroom dancer herself, takes the reader onto the competition floor and into the lights and the glamour of a world of tanned bodies and glittering attire, exploring the allure of this hyper-competitive, difficult, and often expensive activity. In a vivid ethnography accompanied by beautiful photographs of all levels of dancers, from the world’s top competitors to social dancers, Ericksen examines the ways emotional labor is used to create intimacy between professional partners and between professionals and their students, illustrating how dancers purchase intimacy. She shows that, while at first glance, ballroom presents a highly gendered face with men leading and women following, dancing also transgresses gender.

Book From Ballroom to DanceSport

Download or read book From Ballroom to DanceSport written by Caroline Joan S. Picart and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on recent media portrayals and her own experience, author and dancer Caroline Joan S. Picart explores ballroom dancing and its more "sporty" equivalent, DanceSport, suggesting that they are reflective of larger social, political, and cultural tensions. The past several years have seen a resurgence in the popularity of ballroom dance as well as an increasing international anxiety over how and whether to transform ballroom into an Olympic sport. Writing as a participant-critic, Picart suggests that both are crucial sites where bodies are packaged as racialized, sexualized, nationalized, and classed objects. In addition, Picart argues, as the choreography, costuming, and genre of ballroom and DanceSport continue to evolve, these theatrical productions are aestheticized and constructed to encourage commercial appeal, using the narrative frame of the competitive melodrama to heighten audience interest.
