Book Guide to Information Sources in Mathematics and Statistics

Download or read book Guide to Information Sources in Mathematics and Statistics written by Martha A. Tucker and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2004-09-30 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a reference for librarians, mathematicians, and statisticians involved in college and research level mathematics and statistics in the 21st century. We are in a time of transition in scholarly communications in mathematics, practices which have changed little for a hundred years are giving way to new modes of accessing information. Where journals, books, indexes and catalogs were once the physical representation of a good mathematics library, shelves have given way to computers, and users are often accessing information from remote places. Part I is a historical survey of the past 15 years tracking this huge transition in scholarly communications in mathematics. Part II of the book is the bibliography of resources recommended to support the disciplines of mathematics and statistics. These are grouped by type of material. Publication dates range from the 1800's onwards. Hundreds of electronic resources-some online, both dynamic and static, some in fixed media, are listed among the paper resources. Amazingly a majority of listed electronic resources are free.

Book Probability and Statistics with R

Download or read book Probability and Statistics with R written by Maria Dolores Ugarte and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 967 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the popular first edition, the contributed R packages on CRAN have increased from around 1,000 to over 6,000. This second edition explores how some of these new packages make analysis easier and more intuitive as well as create more visually pleasing graphs. Along with adding new examples and exercises, this edition improves the existing examples, problems, concepts, data, and functions. Data sets, R functions, and more are available online.

Book Fitting Statistical Distributions

Download or read book Fitting Statistical Distributions written by Zaven A. Karian and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-05-24 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the study of statistical modelling has made great strides in recent years, the number and variety of distributions to choose from continue to create problems. . Focusing on techniques used successfully across many fields, Fitting Statistical Distributions presents all of the relevant results related to the Generalized Lambda Distribution, the Generalized Bootstrap, and Monte Carlo simulation. It provides the tables, algorithms, and computer programs needed for fitting continuous probability distributions to data in a wide variety of circumstances-covering bivariate as well as univariate distributions, and including situations where moments do not exist.

Book Modern Statistical Systems and GPSS Simulation Second Edition

Download or read book Modern Statistical Systems and GPSS Simulation Second Edition written by Zaven A. Karian and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-09-10 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Statistical, Systems, and GPSS Simulation, Second Edition introduces the theory and implementation of discrete-event simulation. This text: establishes a theoretical basis for simulation methodology provides details of an important simulation language (GPSS - General Purpose Simulation System) integrates these two elements in a systems simulation case study Valuable additions to the second edition include coverage of random number generators with astronomic period, new entropy-based tests of uniformity, gamma variate generation, results on the GLD, and variance reduction techniques. GPSS/PC is an interactive implementation of GPSS for the IBM-PC compatible family of microcomputers. The disk accompanying Modern Statistical, Systems, and GPSS Simulation contains the limited educational version of GPSS/PC with many illustrative examples discussed in the text.

Book Collected Papers

Download or read book Collected Papers written by Robert J. Aumann and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 806 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert Aumann's career in game theory has spanned over research - from his doctoral dissertation in 1956 to papers as recent as January 1995. Threaded through all of Aumann's work (symbolized in his thesis on knots) is the study of relationships between different ideas, between different phenomena, and between ideas and phenomena. When you look closely at one scientific idea, writes Aumann, you find it hitched to all others. It is these hitches that I have tried to study.

Book Connectionist Approaches in Economics and Management Sciences

Download or read book Connectionist Approaches in Economics and Management Sciences written by Cédric Lesage and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the beginning of the 1980's, a lot of news approaches of biomimetic inspiration have been defined and developed for imitating the brain behavior, for modeling non linear phenomenon, for providing new hardware architectures, for solving hard problems. They are named Neural Networks, Multilayer Perceptrons, Genetic algorithms, Cellular Automates, Self-Organizing maps, Fuzzy Logic, etc. They can be summarized by the word of Connectionism, and consist of an interdisciplinary domain between neuroscience, cognitive science and engineering. First they were applied in computer sciences, engineering, biological models, pattern recognition, motor control, learning algorithms, etc. But rapidly, it appeared that these methods could be of great interest in the fields of Economics and Management Sciences. The main difficulty was the distance between researchers, the difference in the vocabulary used by the ones and the others, their basic background. The main notions used by these new techniques were not familiar to the Social and Human Sciences researchers. What are they ? Four of them are now very briefly introduced, but the reader will find more information in the following chapters.
