Download or read book Hearing Loss written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-12-17 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millions of Americans experience some degree of hearing loss. The Social Security Administration (SSA) operates programs that provide cash disability benefits to people with permanent impairments like hearing loss, if they can show that their impairments meet stringent SSA criteria and their earnings are below an SSA threshold. The National Research Council convened an expert committee at the request of the SSA to study the issues related to disability determination for people with hearing loss. This volume is the product of that study. Hearing Loss: Determining Eligibility for Social Security Benefits reviews current knowledge about hearing loss and its measurement and treatment, and provides an evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the current processes and criteria. It recommends changes to strengthen the disability determination process and ensure its reliability and fairness. The book addresses criteria for selection of pure tone and speech tests, guidelines for test administration, testing of hearing in noise, special issues related to testing children, and the difficulty of predicting work capacity from clinical hearing test results. It should be useful to audiologists, otolaryngologists, disability advocates, and others who are concerned with people who have hearing loss.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ANSI Z136.1 is a parent document and cornerstone of the Z136 series of laser safety standards, the Z136.1 is the foundation of laser safety programs for industrial, military, medical, and educational applications nationwide. Z136.1 provides guidance for the safe use of lasers and laser systems by defining control measures for each of seven laser hazard classifications. A practical means for accomplishing this is to (1) classify lasers and laser systems according to their relative hazards and to (2) specify appropriate controls for each classification Once a laser or laser system is properly classified, there should be no need to carry out tedious measurements or calculations to meet the provisions of this standard. However, technical information on measurements, calculations and biological effects is also provided within the standard and its appendixes.

The NGBS outlines a variety of green design and construction practices that can be incorporated into your single-family, multifamily, and mixed-use buildings, either for new construction or remodeling. The NGBS also includes green practices for land development projects as well as assisted living facilities, residential board, and care facilities, and group homes. The NGBS includes high-performance building practices in six areas: Lot Design and Development, Resource Efficiency, Water Efficiency, Energy Efficiency, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Building Operation & Maintenance. The NGBS has four primary certification levels--Bronze, Silver, Gold and Emerald, providing residential building professionals options to integrate sustainability and high-performance into their project at a level most appropriate for their business model, customer base and local housing market. A new compliance path (Certified) customized for single-family and townhome dwellings is added in the 2020 Edition. The NGBS also offers a compliance path for residential and mixed-use communities with four levels of land development practices, ranging from One-Star through Four-Star. The 2020 edition expands the application of innovative practices, offers additional options towards achieving certification, and builds upon a decade strong foundation of program use. The NGBS continues to provide architects, builders, and developers the flexibility needed to design and construct homes and mixed-use buildings that are sustainable, cost-effective and appropriate for a home's geographic location.

Book ANSI AAMI St79 Comprehensive Guide to Steam Sterilization and Sterility Assurance in Health Care Facilities

Download or read book ANSI AAMI St79 Comprehensive Guide to Steam Sterilization and Sterility Assurance in Health Care Facilities written by Aami and published by Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The AAMI recommended practice, Comprehensive guide to steam sterilization and sterility assurance in health care facilities, is a breakthrough standard in terms of its scope. AAMI has updated ST79 with the release of ST79:2010/A4:2013. Of particular importance, A4:2013 provides four new figures demonstrating the wrapping of items for steam sterilization and adds an annex focused on Moisture assessment. As of Oct. 25, 2013, purchasers of ST79 will receive ANSI/AAMI ST79:2010 and A1:2010 and A2:2011 and A3:2012 and A4:2014 as a single consolidated document. Among other changes from the 2006 edition of ST79, this revised and expanded second edition of ST79 includes guidance on the use and application of Class 6 emulating indicators, a chemical monitoring device fairly new to the United States. Because ST79 essentially consolidates five AAMI steam sterilization standards (whose content was reviewed and updated to reflect current good practice prior to being incorporated into ST79), it truly is a comprehensive guideline for all steam sterilization activities in healthcare facilities, regardless of the size of the sterilizer or the size of the facility, and provides a resource for all healthcare personnel who use steam for sterilization.
