Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As my husband and I travel throughout the United States, I started noticing the American Flag. I believe it is one of the most beautiful pieces of art ever created. I am so proud to be an American and to live in a country where we are free. As you look through these pictures, I hope you enjoy them and perhaps one of them is in your city or state. Even though I have not traveled to every state, I tried to capture one in the many I have traveled. There may be some that I have the wrong city but I hope I have gotten them right for the most part. I am an amateur at taking pictures! Many were taken inside our vehicle as we drove through the towns. Please forgive me for the ones not so focused. I hope to do another book as we continue to travel to new places and get more pictures. Thank you, KP

Book Flag

    Book Details:
  • Author : Marc Leepson
  • Publisher : Macmillan
  • Release : 2007-04-01
  • ISBN : 1429906472
  • Pages : 494 pages

Download or read book Flag written by Marc Leepson and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flag: An American Biography is a vivid narrative that uncovers little-known facts and sheds new light on the more than 200-year history of the American flag. The thirteen-stripe, fifty-star flag is as familiar an American icon as any that has existed in the nation's history. Yet the history of the flag, especially its origins, is cloaked in myth and misinformation. Flag: An American Biography rectifies that situation by presenting a lively, comprehensive, illuminating look at the history of the American flag from its beginnings to today. Journalist and historian Marc Leepson uncovers scores of little-known, fascinating facts as he traces the evolution of the American flag from the colonial period to the twenty-first century. Flag sifts through the historical evidence to--among many other things--uncover the truth behind the Betsy Ross myth and to discover the true designer of the Stars and Stripes. It details the many colorful and influential Americans who shaped the history of the flag. "Flag," as the novelist Nelson DeMille says in his preface, "is not a book with an agenda or a subjective point of view. It is an objective history of the American flag, well researched, well presented, easy to read and understand, and very informative and entertaining." "Our love for the flag may be incomprehensible to others, but at least we now have a comprehensive guide to its unfolding."--The Wall Street Journal

Book Capture the Flag

  • Author : Woden Teachout

  • Pages : 276 pages

Download or read book Capture the Flag written by Woden Teachout and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Americans honor the flag with a fervor seen in few other countries: The Stars and Stripes decorate American homes and businesses; wave over sports events and funerals; and embellish everything from politicians' lapels to the surface of the moon. But what does the flag mean? In Capture the Flag, historian Woden Teachout reveals that it has held vastly different meanings over time. It has been claimed by both the right and left; by racists and revolutionaries; by immigrants and nativists. In tracing the political history of the flag from its origins in the American Revolution through the present day, Teachout demonstrates that the shifting symbolism of the flag reveals a broader shift in the definition of American patriotism. A story of a nation in search of itself, Capture the Flag offers a probing account of the flag that has become America's icon.
