In reality, however, the military efforts made by those Colonies, not only in the Seven Years' war, but in that of 1744, were of great importance. Large forces were kept on foot; distant and important expeditions were undertaken with success; valuable con quests were achieved; and, on more than one occasion, a very decisive influence on the politics of Europe was exercised by the colonial govern ments. Great importance would have been at tached to these transactions, but for the greater importance and interest of those, which followed so close upon them, in the war of the Revolution.
