This book was released on 2018-11-06 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's Marine Highway Program (US Maritime Administration Regulation) (MARAD) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the America's Marine Highway Program (US Maritime Administration Regulation) (MARAD) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 On October 9, 2008, the Department of Transportation published an interim final rule that established America's Marine Highway Program, under which the Secretary will designate marine highway corridors and identify and support short sea transportation projects to expand domestic water transportation services as an alternative means of moving containerized and wheeled freight cargoes; mitigate the economic, environmental and energy costs of landside congestion; integrate the marine highway into the transportation planning process; and research improvements in efficiencies and environmental sustainability. This action is required by Public Law 110-140, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The interim final rule solicited comments, which are discussed in the "Section by Section Review" below and incorporated in this final rule. In addition, the interim final rule sought recommendations for designation of Marine Highway Corridors. This rule adopts the interim final rule, addresses Marine Highway Corridors (and continues to solicit recommendations for Marine Highway Corridor recommendations), and establishes eligibility requirements, criteria and information necessary to apply for designation as a Marine Highway Project by the Secretary of Transportation. Solicitations from applicants desiring Marine Highway Project designation will be initiated through notification in the Federal Register at a future date. This rule also sets forth the manner in which the Department of Transportation will identify and recommend solutions to impediments to expanded use of marine highways and lays the groundwork for coordinating with States, private transportation providers, and local and Tribal governments, and conducting research related to marine highway development. The program should improve system capacity and efficiency, air quality, highway safety, and national security. This book contains: - The complete text of the America's Marine Highway Program (US Maritime Administration Regulation) (MARAD) (2018 Edition) - A table of contents with the page number of each section

Book North American Marine Highways

Download or read book North American Marine Highways written by C. James Kruse and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2010 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report presents an evaluation of the potential for moving intermodal containers on chassis, non-containerized trailers, or rail cars on marine highways in North America. The report is especially valuable for its assessment of the conditions for feasibility; its analysis of the economic, technical, regulatory, and logistical barriers inhibiting greater use of the marine highway system; and proposed solutions for barrier elimination. This report will enable public and private stakeholders to better understand the underlying reasons for the current underutilization of the marine highway system. This marine highway system (often referred to as short sea shipping) includes navigable rivers, lakes, canals, seaways, and coastal waterways. Currently, less than 4% of the Nation's domestic freight moves by water."--Pub. desc.

Book America s Marine Highways

Download or read book America s Marine Highways written by Rafael Pelletier and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's Marine Highway system accommodates the water-borne movement of passengers and non-bulk freight between origins and destinations otherwise served solely by roads and railways. Its corridors run parallel to many of the nation's most important land-based routes and connectors. These corridors are important components of the nation's broader domestic marine transportation system, which consists of 25,320 miles of navigable waterways, including rivers, bays, and channels, and many thousands of additional miles on the Great Lakes Saint Lawrence Seaway System and deep sea routes. For much of the early history of the United States, the network of waterways was the primary means of interstate commerce and transportation for goods and people. As a result, the majority of America's large metropolitan areas, as well as the preponderance of the U.S. population, are located along the coasts and navigable waterways. This book provides an overview of the current elements and benefits of water transportation, with a focus on a more environmentally sustainable transportation system; the marine highway and national defence; and impediments of new and expanded marine highway services.

Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Freight Research Program (NCFRP) Report 18: Marine Highway Transport of Toxic Inhalation Hazard Materials examines the possibility of transporting greater volumes of chlorine and anhydrous ammonia shipments via the marine highway system. At present, there is no coastwise and only limited inland waterway activity related to either commodity. In developing a business case for increasing chlorine and anhydrous ammonia shipments via the marine highway system, the report addresses market definition, return on investment, obstacles, impacts on other modes and their likely reactions, labor issues, environmental concerns, risks, and lessons learned from international experience."--

You find yourself transported into the minds and lives of people you thought you didn't know. Suddenly they are your best friends. They live in Texas. Most of them are Hispanic. But their problems are universal. Like Alfredo, driving home from Dallas to Greenton with the body of his friend "Frankie" Ochoa in the back of his hearse and his son Ramon ready to drive if Alfredo's eyesight fails again. Or Joey, just back from basic training and ready to ship out with his Marine platoon. He's having beers with his best friend J.R. at Flojo's, a bar outside of Greenton run by Liz and Vicente, "the toughest couple in town." Or Benny, who drops into Flojo's for the first time in years and finds his one-time friend Gumby drinking himself into oblivion. Turns out Gumby's luck is even worse than Benny's. Or Virginia, the schoolteacher who's trying to become better educated in the hope that her son who went to Stanford will come back home to Corpus Christi. Or Eric, who spent all his money on two flashy wheels for his car and put them both on the passenger side so that they'll impress everyone on the sidewalk as he passes. Or Andy, who breaks into a home he's always wanted to see from the inside. You'll want to know them all. And you will count yourself fortunate to have met them.
