Book Sense of Place in Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism

Download or read book Sense of Place in Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism written by Jennifer Farnum and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding sense of place and related concepts often presents challenges for both managers and researchers. Inconsistent application of terms, questions regarding their origin, and a lack of awareness of research findings contribute to the ambiguity of these concepts. This integrative review of research provides relevant, current information on the role of sense of place in natural-resourcebased recreation and tourism. Special focus is given to the foundations of place attachment, how place attachment may differ among user types, and the relation of place attachment to other psychological phenomena such as attitudes. The role of theory in place attachment also is addressed, and gaps in theoretical and empirical work are identified. This review provides specific recommendations for managers and others wanting to better understand the dynamics of sense of place.

Book America s Renewable Resources

Download or read book America s Renewable Resources written by Kenneth D. Frederick and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By recording one country's experience with its vast natural resource base, America's Renewable Resources: Historical Trends and Current Challenges will help to inform the management of future demands on the resource base in the U.S. and throughout the world. The contributors focus specifically on renewable resources--water, forests, rangeland, cropland and soils, and wildlife--which possess the capacity to restore themselves after they have be consumed. Because this capacity can be destroyed and the time required for restoration can be very long, a balance in their use is necessary to sustain continued productivity. In arresting fashion, the authors trace the history of each resource's use from early colonial times through periods of dramatic, sometimes cataclysmic, changes in its utilization by an expanding, diversifying society. They show how unforeseen consequences have forced social institutions into existence and compelled policy makers, especially at the federal level, to deal with problems for which they were largely unprepared. America's Renewable Resources, by examining changes in demand, technologies, policies, and institutions, will assist both policy makers and the public at large to look past short-term events to the conditions fundamental to maintaining our future economic and environmental wellbeing. Book Le gouvernement des ressources naturelles science et territorialit s de l tat qu b cois 1867 1939

Download or read book Le gouvernement des ressources naturelles science et territorialit s de l tat qu b cois 1867 1939 written by Stéphane Castonguay and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2021-04-15 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Government of Natural Resources explores government scientific activity in Quebec from Confederation until the Second World War. Scientific and technical personnel are an often quiet presence within the state, but they play an integral role. By tracing the history of geology, forestry, fishery, and agronomy services, Stéphane Castonguay reveals how the exploitation of natural resources became a tool of government. As it shaped territorial and environmental transformations, scientific activity contributed to state formation and expanded administrative capacity. This thoughtful reconceptualization of resource development reaches well beyond provincial borders, changing the way we think of science and state power.

Book Natural Resource Policy

Download or read book Natural Resource Policy written by Frederick Cubbage and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2016-07-12 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural resource policies provide the foundation for sustainable resource use, management, and protection. Natural Resource Policy blends policy processes, history, institutions, and current events to analyze sustainable development of natural resources. The book’s detailed coverage explores the market and political allocation and management of natural resources for human benefits, as well as their contributions for environmental services. Wise natural resource policies that promote sustainable development, not senseless exploitation, promise to improve our quality of life and the environment. Public or private policies may be used to manage natural resources. When private markets are inadequate due to public goods or market failure, many policy options, including regulations, education, incentives, government ownership, and hybrid public/private policy instruments may be crafted by policy makers. Whether a policy is intended to promote intensive management of natural resources to enhance sustained yield or to restore degraded conditions to a more socially desirable state, this comprehensive guide outlines the ways in which natural resource managers can use their technical skills within existing administrative and legal frameworks to implement or influence policy.
