Best friends tell each other everything. Even their deepest, darkest secrets—pinky promise. Right? Morgan Jewell and Fay Ramsey are enjoying their last summer together before college. Fay is shy, with a controlling mother, and Morgan is the perfect, wild, loud-mouthed yang to Fay’s yin. But when Fay is found dead, Morgan’s entire world crumbles. Years later, Morgan is still haunted by the abrupt end to her best friend’s life. She knew Fay held a secret in those final days, but Morgan, now a homicide detective, has failed to make a picture out of the crooked puzzle pieces she left behind. Nothing makes sense. The leads have run dry. Until she’s called to the scene of a murder: a woman whose body is left mangled, too similar to Fay’s to ignore. Could it be? Morgan vowed to do right by Fay. This is the case she’s been waiting for to set her back on the killer’s trail. But the closer she gets, the harder it forces her to confront the memories of herself and her best friend. What was her secret? What got her killed? Maybe Morgan didn't know her at all.

Book The Best Kept Teaching Secret

Download or read book The Best Kept Teaching Secret written by Harvey Daniels and published by Corwin Press. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Your fast-track to student engagement Everywhere Smokey Daniels goes-every school he visits, every workshop he leads, every keynote he gives-there's one teaching strategy that teachers embrace above all others. That single method for transforming students from passive spectators into active learners . . . for evoking curiosity, inspiring critical thinking, and building powerful writers along the way. Now, with Elaine Daniels as Smokey's coauthor, that best-kept teaching secret is revealed to teachers at large: Written Conversations. Just what make Written Conversations so potent? An ongoing, thoughtful correspondence between students, and between students and their teachers, Written Conversations, above all else, catch and ride the wave of social interaction, which in turn makes school matter to kids. It's that simple. Structure by structure, from beginning to end, Smokey and Elaine describe four variations of these "silent writing-to-learn discussions," during which all students in a classroom think and "talk" at once in writing, instead of one at a time out loud. How Written Conversations Work 1.It all starts with mini-memos, short student letters that teachers use to introduce, extend, and assess class work. 2.Then come dialogue journals, where pairs dive deeply into academic subjects. 3.Next, groups of three or four students join in extended written discussions called write-arounds. 4.Finally, kids take their thinking online, where they enjoy digital discussions with partners from their own classroom- and with kids from around the world. . . . all the while, you are supported by detailed descriptions of each structure, lessons, and annotated student samples-making this the most practical teaching book in recent memory. What kid wouldn't want to refine written argument skills, clarify a point, or defend another's viewpoint, when the "audience" is people who matter? And Yes, Written Conversations align with the Common Core Sta

Book TRINITY

  • Author : Jacques Vallée
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2021-05-07
  • ISBN : 9781667113647
  • Pages : 358 pages

Download or read book TRINITY written by Jacques Vallée and published by . This book was released on 2021-05-07 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hard evidence has existed since 1945 for the actual recovery of unidentified flying craft in the United States, according to a new research book, "TRINITY: The Best-Kept Secret" written by two seasoned analysts of the global patterns behind the UFO phenomenon. Italian investigative journalist Paola Leopizzi Harris and French-born information scientist Dr. Jacques F. Vallée have teamed up to uncover the details of a New Mexico crash in 1945, fully two years before the well-known incident at Roswell and the famous sighting by pilot Kenneth Arnold in 1947. Over several site investigation surveys Harris and Vallée reconstructed the historic observations by three witnesses, two of whom are still living, who described to them the circumstances of the crash, with details of the recovery of a nearly-intact flying vehicle and its occupants by an Army detachment. Combining their long experience in field research around the world, the authors have documented the step-by-step efforts by the military to remove the object, an avocado-shaped craft weighting several tons, from the property where it crash-landed during a storm. Surprisingly, the literature of the field only includes a few passing mentions about the case, and only one (foreign) TV documentary has mentioned it, but the correlation between the crash of the extraordinary object and the explosion of the first atom bomb at White Sands, less than 20 miles away, has been missed. Harris and Vallée suggest that the correlation is significant for physical, geographic and biological reasons, quite apart from the obvious strategic implications. The witnesses were able to observe not only the actual crash of the object on their property but every step of the military efforts to lift it and take it away. Fearing retaliation, they remained silent for some 60 years about what they had seen and done over those nine days at the site while the recovery was proceeding. When placed in the context of the history of chemical and physical analysis of retrieved UFO debris--an area where Harris and Vallée have long collaborated-the devices observed by the witnesses raise a number of very important scientific questions. The Honorable Paul Hellyer, former Minister of National Defence of Canada, has stated: "Paola Harris and Jacques Vallée have spent much effort doing field research on location (...) It is now time that their discovery be revealed to the world."
