Book America A Prophecy

Book excerpt: America a Prophecy is a 1793 prophetic book by English poet and illustrator William Blake. It is engraved on eighteen plates, and survives in fourteen known copies. It is the first of Blake's Continental prophecies. America was one of the few works that Blake describes as "illuminated printing", those of which were either hand coloured or colour printed with the ink being placed on the copperplate before printed. Early sketches for America were also included in his notebook, which Blake used between 1790 and 1793. William Blake (1757 – 1827) was a British poet, painter, visionary mystic, and engraver, who illustrated and printed his own books. Blake proclaimed the supremacy of the imagination over the rationalism and materialism of the 18th-century. Largely unrecognised during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of both the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of premium cosmic horror contains a high-quality facsimile edition of William Blake's original handwritten masterpiece, an introduction by Aladdin Collar, a plain-text companion of the poems, and a diagrammatic interpretation of Blake's unique pantheon of gods. Told through dense verses of symbol and esoteric cosmology, America a Prophecy details a Revolutionary War on a metaphysical plane. Heralded by thirteen colonial angels, the Christ-figure called Ore champions love and passion over the primordial Albion, and Albion's demonic aspect, the terrible Urizen. America a Prophecy is one of 12 Illuminated Prophecies by Blake, which together represent the first modern mythological system. This approach to literature (the development of a unique, fictional cosmology) was later adapted by notable authors such as Lord Dunsany, JRR Tolkein, and HP Lovecraft, before being integrated into mainstream popular entertainment.

Book Native American Architecture

Download or read book Native American Architecture written by Peter Nabokov and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1990-10-25 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many people, Native American architecture calls to mind the wigwam, tipi, iglu, and pueblo. Yet the richly diverse building traditions of Native Americans encompass much more, including specific structures for sleeping, working, worshipping, meditating, playing, dancing, lounging, giving birth, decision-making, cleansing, storing and preparing food, caring for animals, and honoring the dead. In effect, the architecture covers all facets of Indian life. The collaboration between an architect and an anthropologist, Native American Architecture presents the first book-length, fully illustrated exploration of North American Indian architecture to appear in over a century. Peter Nabokov and Robert Easton together examine the building traditions of the major tribes in nine regional areas of the continent from the huge plank-house villages of the Northwest Coast to the moundbuilder towns and temples of the Southeast, to the Navajo hogans and adobe pueblos of the Southwest. Going beyond a traditional survey of buildings, the book offers a broad, clear view into the Native American world, revealing a new perspective on the interaction between their buildings and culture. Looking at Native American architecture as more than buildings, villages, and camps, Nabokov and Easton also focus on their use of space, their environment, their social mores, and their religious beliefs. Each chapter concludes with an account of traditional Indian building practices undergoing a revival or in danger today. The volume also includes a wealth of historical photographs and drawings (including sixteen pages of color illustrations), architectural renderings, and specially prepared interpretive diagrams which decode the sacred cosmology of the principal house types.

Book The Continental Prophecies

    Book Details:
  • Author : William Blake
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 1998
  • ISBN : 9780691001456
  • Pages : 368 pages

Download or read book The Continental Prophecies written by William Blake and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last volumes in the series of William Blake's Illuminated Books reveal the writer and artist as a prophet driven by a sense of apocalyptic urgency. Blake conceived and executed The Continental Prophecies and The Urizen Books in the early 1790s, capturing the intellectual and spiritual turmoil of the American and French revolutions. Here, for the first time, the general reader will encounter Blake's most intense vision in reproductions that do justice to the originals, accompanied by texts, comprehensive notes and commentaries, and detailed interpretations of the designs. The Continental Prophecies, which comprises "America," "Europe," and "The Song of Los," presents Blake's critical reckoning with the history of his own times. Marked by a particularly close integration of word and image, the books form a mythical plot from historical events and criticize the intricate structure of social oppression that the author attributes to organized state religion. Each of the three books attempts to point a way toward the process of millennial liberation. These volumes complete the six-part series of William Blake's Illuminated Books, including Jerusalem, Songs of Innocence and of Experience (now available in paperback), The Early Illuminated Books, and Milton, A Poem, all published by Princeton University Press.

Book The American Republic

Download or read book The American Republic written by Bruce Frohnen and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many reference works offer compilations of critical documents covering individual liberty, local autonomy, constitutional order, and other issues that helped to shape the American political tradition. Yet few of those works are available in a form suitable for classroom use, and traditional textbooks give short shrift to these important issues. The American Republic overcomes that knowledge gap by providing, in a single volume, critical, original documents revealing the character of American discourse on the nature and importance of local government, the purposes of federal union, and the role of religion and tradition in forming America’s drive for liberty. The American Republic is divided into nine sections, each illustrating major philosophical, cultural, and policy positions at issue during crucial eras of American development. Readers will find documentary evidence of the purposes behind European settlement, American response to English acts, the pervasive role of religion in early American public life, and perspectives in the debate over independence. Subsequent chapters examine the roots of American constitutionalism, Federalist and Anti-Federalist arguments concerning the need to protect common law rights, and the debates over whether the states or the federal government held final authority in determining the course of public policy in America. Also included are the discussions regarding disagreements over internal improvements and other federal measures aimed at binding the nation, particularly in the area of commerce. The final section focuses on the political, cultural, and legal issues leading to the Civil War. Arguments and attempted compromises regarding slavery, along with laws that helped shape slavery, are highlighted. The volume ends with the prelude to the Civil War, a natural stopping-off point for studies of early American history. By bringing together key original documents and other writings that explain cultural, religious, and historical concerns, this volume gives students, teachers, and general readers an effective way to begin examining the diversity of issues and influences that characterize American history. The result unquestionably leads to a deeper and more thorough understanding of America's political, institutional, and cultural continuity and change. Bruce P. Frohnen is Associate Professor of Law at Ohio Northern University College of Law. He holds a J.D. from the Emory University School of Law and a Ph.D. in Government from Cornell University. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A "powerful text" (Tavis Smiley) about how religion drove the fight for social justice in modern America American Prophets sheds critical new light on the lives and thought of seven major prophetic figures in twentieth-century America whose social activism was motivated by a deeply felt compassion for those suffering injustice. In this compelling and provocative book, acclaimed religious scholar Albert Raboteau tells the remarkable stories of Abraham Joshua Heschel, A. J. Muste, Dorothy Day, Howard Thurman, Thomas Merton, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Fannie Lou Hamer—inspired individuals who succeeded in conveying their vision to the broader public through writing, speaking, demonstrating, and organizing. Raboteau traces how their paths crossed and their lives intertwined, creating a network of committed activists who significantly changed the attitudes of several generations of Americans about contentious political issues such as war, racism, and poverty. Raboteau examines the influences that shaped their ideas and the surprising connections that linked them together. He discusses their theological and ethical positions, and describes the rhetorical and strategic methods these exemplars of modern prophecy used to persuade their fellow citizens to share their commitment to social change. A momentous scholarly achievement as well as a moving testimony to the human spirit, American Prophets represents a major contribution to the history of religion in American politics. This book is essential reading for anyone who is concerned about social justice, or who wants to know what prophetic thought and action can mean in today's world.

Book USA Prophecy

  • Author : Kenneth Mburu

  • Pages : 266 pages

Download or read book USA Prophecy written by Kenneth Mburu and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will help you find the USA in the Bible. It will help you find the vital role God has assigned the USA in His plan. USA is Ephraim. USA is the western gate of the world through which all divine movements in the physical world begin—Numbers 2:18. USA is God’s first born—Jeremiah 31:9: “They shall come with weeping, And with supplications I will lead them. I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters, In a straight way in which they shall not stumble; For I am a Father to Israel, And Ephraim is My firstborn.” The USA is being called to repentance in this Jeremiah 31:9 verse that means offspring (31) of fruit of the spirt and divine completion from Him (9). Ephraim is half-Israel and half-Egyptian, and so is USA. The USA is being called out of the sin and idolatry of its Egyptian half such as seen in the eye of Horus on top of the pyramid at the back of the 1-dollar bill in Hosea 11:1: “When Israel was a child, I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.” The USA is being called to repentance because it is the leader of the world; as the USA goes, so does the world. Satan is therefore keen to usurp the USA and use it to establish his kingdom through the New World Order global government. Satan has evolved this plot over thousands of years. All players and institutions are in place and ready to take over the entire globe. The only problem: the physical door of the world that is USA has been shut in Satan’s face by God. God has done this by raising Donald Trump to block the final move of the antiChrist system. Read this book therefore to understand the phenomena that is Donald Trump and why God has raised him as a wall against the move of Satan in these end times, despite all his many human flaws. Read this book to understand the future of America and what we, especially as believers must do, in this 2020 election period, when the USA will either end up in continued preservation (45) or tribulation (46) depending on our choices and our efforts to either support God’s move, or Satan’s move.

Download or read book America in Prophecy written by John Quiles and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-01-30 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is our Lord's return imminent? Many Christians believe it is""emphasizing that He has promised to return and that as His disciples, we must be ready. Yet in spite of their assurance, surprisingly few of God's people may actually be prepared for His appearing. Of the many signs suggesting that our Lord's return is near, two in particular are of great interest""the rise of Babylon and the restoration of Israel. These two major end-time events as foretold in Scripture have great implications for us as Americans, and more specifically as Christians. America in Prophecy: A Nation at a Crossroads examines these two major prophetic indicators and not only reveals their importance in determining how close to our Lord's return we actually are but also their connection to what it truly means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. It unveils the big picture regarding end-time Bible prophecy as it relates to America and shows how we are indeed standing at a crossroads not only as a nation but as God's corporate body, the Church, and as its individual members in particular. America in Prophecy seeks to answer the question of where and how we, as Christians living in the United States of America at this particular juncture in history, fit into God's end-time scenario. Most importantly, it explains what we must do to ensure that we are ready for our Lord's return. Of all the books currently on the market, one may be hard-pressed to find a more pertinent, timely, and compelling message for today's Christian. Outside of the Bible, this is quite possibly one of the most exciting books you will ever read on the subject of end-time Bible prophecy and the necessity for believer's everywhere to make certain they are ready for our Lord's return.

Book Europe A Prophecy Illuminated Manuscript with the Original Illustrations of William Blake

Download or read book Europe A Prophecy Illuminated Manuscript with the Original Illustrations of William Blake written by William Blake and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2013-08-20 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: "Europe A Prophecy (Illuminated Manuscript with the Original Illustrations of William Blake)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Blake's illuminated books, produced from 1783-1795, are remarkable examples of complex syntheses: of form - poetry and painting; and of subject - the real with the mythical. Blake created his own mythological creations to populate his poems and paintings: concepts and ideas became personified into universal representations. He used these mythological characters to explain and act out his singular view of history. Blake divided the nature of man into four personified elements: "Los, the imagination and eventual source of redemption; Urizen, the reason and vengeful Jehovah of the Old Testament as opposed to the merciful Christ of the New; Luvah, the senses; and Tharmas, the emotions". Each of these characters has an emanation, or female "offshoot", who is commonly a negative character attempting to dominate her male counterpart. "William Blake (1757 – 1827) was an English poet, painter, and printmaker. Largely unrecognised during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of both the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study reported in this volume grew out of some theoretical work, one phase of which bore specifically on the behavior of individuals in social movements that made specific (and unfulfilled) prophecies. We had been forced to depend chiefly on historical records to judge the adequacy of our theoretical ideas until we by chance discovered the social movement that we report in this book. At the time we learned of it, the movement was in mid-career but the prophecy about which it was centered had not yet been disconfirmed. We were understandably eager to undertake a study that could test our theoretical ideas under natural conditions. That we were able to do this study was in great measure due to the support obtained through the Laboratory for Research in Social Relations of the University of Minnesota. This study is a project of the Laboratory and was carried out while we were all members of its staff. We should also like to acknowledge the help we received through a grant-in-aid from the Ford Foundation to one of the authors, a grant that made preliminary exploration of the field situation possible.
