Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amchigele Delights is an attempt to compile recipes of food served in the homes of the GSB Community, temples or any otherplace of spiritual interest in India which belongs to the Community. The food served at these places is also known as sacred food because it comes from a kitchen where people may have either forgotten the recipes or may have lost the art of bringing in flavour into the food. These recipes have been around for long but not much is known to the outer world about this cuisine. This book will bring to light the GSB kitchens which serve these hearty meals. This would be followed by actual recipes that would be categorized depending on their meal type. Most recipes would be easy to make using minimal ingredients. The reason why the book is needed, the need it will fulfil, its fit with contemporary literature. GSBs (Gaud Saraswat Brahmins) are comparatively a small community. The GSBs originally lived on the banks of the river Saraswati. The name Sarawat is derived from either the river Saraswati or from their spiritual leader, the sage Saraswat Muni who used to live on the banks of Saraswati. Their mother tongue is Konkani. Saraswat cuisine is the cuisine of the Saraswat Brahmins from the Konkan region on the western coast of India. Saraswat cuisine originally hails from Goa, India. In the sixteenth century they had to migrate to other parts of the country like the Malenad and the coastal belt of Karnataka and Kerala, besides Maharashtra.Their curries use a lot of coconut oil, tamarind, and curry leaves and the cuisine is largely influenced by South Indian cuisine. It is slightly similar to Malvani or Konkani and Udupi or Mangalorean cuisine. The food served at most of GSB homes is simple yet extremely healthy and nutritious. This GSB cuisine can be adapted in our daily lives to avail its benefits. This book will also cater to GSB people who have migrated into other countries. Recipes have been simplified as far as possible so that maximum users can follow them.

Shahane draws from her own experiences cooking Konkani food for over 40 years, adding new recipes and updating older ones for modern appliances and measuring techniques. An inspiring collection for a new generation of home cooks looking to add traditional tastes to their table.
Download or read book Gowd Saraswat Brahmin s Cookbook written by Annapoorna Nayak and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-04-24 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you thought ghassi, sambhar and idlis summed up the cuisine of the Gowd Saraswat Brahmins (GSB), you are quite mistaken. The food cooked in a Brahmin home is essentially sathvic paying special attention to the balance and nutritive value of the dishes prepared. Simple lentil soup, 'dhali toy', served over the steamed rice and the topping of a dollop of homemade clarified butter/ghee is a probably the one most loved comfort food for GSBs. There are complex curries like 'val-val', spicy 'teeksani ummans' and slightly sweet 'ambe sassam'. You would see variety of plain and spicy food in a meal that is balanced with a glass full of thin curds, 'taak' as a final course to set right any imbalance in the food eaten for the day. Even though GSB cuisine comes from spice rich regions of Karnataka and Kerala, we see very limited palette of spices being used, yet, it lacks nothing in terms of taste and deep digestive philosophies relevant to food. The cuisine revolves around mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, chillies and turmeric. Ginger as a digestive aid, Green leaves of all kinds as high fibre source, dried lentils and beans as nature's tiny capsules of proteins, turmeric as healer of wounds and sundry health issues, asafoetida for controlling gastric problem; every ingredient used in the GSB cuisine has a purpose that goes beyond taste and texture. There are about fifty select vegetarian recipes in this book showcase the wide variety and infinite inventiveness of the GSB kitchen. Lesser-known dishes, featuring specific types of vegetables or leaves, an awesome array of chutneys and pickles, and delightful sweets without which no meal can be complete, are also lovingly included. The book starts with the history and culture of the GSBs. This book is a much-needed addition to the library of any discerning gourmet or anyone with an interest in diverse cuisine and culture of India.
Download or read book Age of Frenzy written by Mahabaleshwar Sail and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2019-01-25 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's 1510. The Portuguese arrive in Goa armed with guns, swords and crucifixes to the agricultural village of Adolshi. As tigers prowl about, cow bones appear in wells, chariot wheels break on festival day, a sense of foreboding fills the Hindus, who have been living there peacefully. The Portuguese king has licenced Jesuits to take over, and staunch white men move about preaching the word of the Son of God. Land is seized, families break. However, Padre Simao Peres is convinced that love and not force will bring about a change of heart. With the Inquisition looming like an axe over everyone's heads, a saga of choice plays out for the people of the village. Recounting a forgotten history, Mahabaleshwar Sail's epic novel, Age of Frenzy, documents a turbulent past of religious rifts, caste hierarchies and power shifts which changed the ethos of a significant part of the western coastline of India forever.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “MY CRAVINGS, MY THROES” is a matchless and peerless collection of poems of Hilal Ahmad Mir. The book is divided into two sections. It depicts the subjective and objective world of the poet. When we go to the depths of the depthless depths of the book, we come to know that the poet craves for something, but his cravings are not fulfilled. Unfulfillment of the cravings pains the poet wildly and the unfulfillment of the cravings gives rise to throes. The book is the best one. Hilal Ahmad has touched every issue in the book. He believes in humanity. He tells in one of the poems that all human beings are one. They belong to the same parents. Allah has given the same air, water, sky, sun, moon, earth. . . to all. Why do they fight in this fleeting world for nothing? He believes in the fraternity, justice, peace, equality. . . This book is good in every sense. It is not inapt to write here that the book is the Panacea of the ills.

Download or read book You Must Win The winner can create History written by Ahmed Sayeed and published by Prowess Publishing. This book was released on 2019-08-10 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest book "You Must Win" contains a similar subject of humans should get freed from the Cage of Theology or Dogmatism. My Contention is that "The Earth will be it's own when heavens are destroyed. The book Human Achievement contain the same message, first Know thyself" then only you can know the world, your society, your fellow being, your kith, and kins. I wish that the Book would enlighten the reader with an advise "that when we know nothing of the first Principle, it is truly extravagant to define God, Angels, Heavens, and minds to know precisely why God formed world when we do not know why we pray and raise our arms at our will" It advocates that Society is a growth in time, not syllogism in Logic and when the past is out through the door, it comes in at the windows. It guides to show precisely by what changes we can diminish misery and injustice in the world in which we actually live. A real Human who owns Humanity would automatically reject the story of "Adam and Eve" Let us live what is provided with and regarding the growth of Human life both physically and psychologically let us leave the matter to Scientists and to socialists. Socialist concern must be to lead a life peacefully, ethically, contently after attaining bask biological and social needs and this may contend as my message as an author to the readers in particular and humanity in general.
Download or read book English Literature Made Easy written by Dr. Prakash B. Teggihalli and published by Prowess Publishing. This book was released on 2021-08-14 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Art is basically a creation, which is the product of both the man and nature. Nature creates beautiful fleeting visitations like sunset, snowfall, gorgeous waterfalls, and strange creatures etc. So also, man creates art in imitation of Nature in the form of fine arts. Literature is rather later growth compare to painting and music in the history of mankind. Literature is an art of writing by means of words. It has a direct link with life and its realities. Literature is nothing but the reflection of life. It deals with human hopes, aspirations, joys, sorrows and conflicts. Nothing in the world comes so close to life as literature. In short, it holds mirror up to life and society. Men of literature constantly in touch with social movements and strive hard to reform and correct the social mistakes and failures. So literature acquires human significance as Homer, Ovid, Cicero, Shakespeare, Milton, Carlyle, Tagore, Tolstoy, Rousseau and Voltaire did in the previous generations to solve the problems of their contemporary society. English literature has its unique identity in World’s literature. It has acquired more significance during the colonial world. It has become the major discipline of the study at both graduate and post graduate level in almost all the Universities of Globe. Millions of students and teachers constantly read and teach History of English literature in Higher education all over the world. Here, an attempt has been made to simplify the History of English Literature, keeping in mind the receptive and conceptual ability of the students. There is a critical analysis and a microscopic observation of each writer and their contextual relevance of the text. The Book sheds a light on the developments of each genre from Chaucer to T.S Eliot. The stress is laid on major literary movements like Romanticism, Classicism and Realism from the beginning to the end and simplified the concepts. So the content of the book is prepared to appeal the critical ability of the students and their urge to understand it for aesthetic pleasure as well as for competitive examinations. No doubt the book will satisfy the quest of students in gaining the better understanding of the subject clearly at ease. In writing this book I have leaned more or less heavily on almost all the existed literary sources and I acknowledge all these writers and publishers for their explicit reference in the body of the text.
