This book was released on 1990 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CETTE ETUDE PRESENTE LES TRAVAUX REALISES GRACE A UN DETECTEUR COURBE DANS LE CADRE D'ANALYSES CLASSIQUES DE DIFFRACTION DES RAYONS X. L'INTRODUCTION DE CRITERES EXPERIMENTAUX PERMET UNE UTILISATIN RATIONNELLE DE CE DETECTEUR. NOUS PROPOSONS UNE EXPRESSION SIMPLIFIEE DES FONCTIONS DE PEARSON VII ASYMETRIQUES POUR LE LISSAGE ET LA SEPARATION DE PROFILS DE RAIES DE DIFFRACTION X. NOUS INTRODUISONS DES TECHNIQUES D'ANALYSE ADAPTEES AUX MATERIAUX A GROS GRAINS LORS DE LA MESURE DES CONTRAINTES RESIDUELLES (INTEGRATION DISCONTINUE ET FILTRAGE NUMERIQUE DES RAIES DE DIFFRACTION). NOUS DEVELOPPONS ET ETENDONS LE PRINCIPE DES FIGURES DE POLES AUX CARACTERISTIQUES DES RAIES DE DIFFRACTION (NOTION D'INDICATRICE). GRACE A CELLES-CI NOUS OBTENONS DES RELATIONS FORMELLES ENTRE LA TAILLE DES DOMAINES DE DIFFRACTION COHERENTE ET LA MICRO-DEFORMATION. LES DISTRIBUTIONS DE L'INTENSITE DIFFRACTEE EN FONCTIN DU FACTEUR DE FORME DU PROFIL DE RAIE DE DIFFRACTION X MONTRE QU'IL REPRESENTE, COMBINE AVEC LES VARIATIONS DE LA LARGEUR A MI-HAUTEUR, UNE VARIABLE ADEQUATE POUR LA DESCRITION DES MATERIAUX POLYCRISTALLINS DEFORMES. DANS LE CADRE D'HYPOTHESES GENERALEMENT ADMISES, LES RELATIONS MICRO-CONTRAINTE/TAILLE DES DOMAINES DE DIFFRACTION COHERENTE RAPPELLENT LES DIVERSES FORMES DE LA RELATION DE HALL-PETCH. L'ETUDE DES OSCILLATIONS DES GRAPHES RELATANT LES VARIATIONS DE LA DEFORMATION EN FONCTION DE LA DIRECTION DE MESURE PRECISE LE CARACTERE PREDOMINANT DES CARACTERISTIQUES MICROSTRUCTURALES. CE TRAVAIL MONTRE D'UNE FACON GENERALE QUE L'ANALYSE DES MATERIAUX POLYCRISTALLINS PEUT ETRE SIGNIFICATIVEMENT AMELIOREE PAR L'UTILISATION ET LA CONSTRUCTION D'INDICATRICES QUI REFLETENT L'ANISOTROPIE DU MILIEU POLYCRISTALLIN.

He was engaged in research at the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics and High Energy where his focus was on strong interactions physics and statistical mechanics. Franck Laloë was a researcher at the Kastler-Brossel laboratory of the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. His first assignment was with the University of Paris VI before he was appointed to the CNRS, the French National Research Center. His research was focused on optical pumping, statistical mechanics of quantum gases, musical acoustics and the foundations of quantum mechanics.

Book Flexoelectricity in Liquid Crystals

Download or read book Flexoelectricity in Liquid Crystals written by Agnes Buka and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book intends to give a state-of-the-art overview of flexoelectricity, a linear physical coupling between mechanical (orientational) deformations and electric polarization, which is specific to systems with orientational order, such as liquid crystals. Chapters written by experts in the field shed light on theoretical as well as experimental aspects of research carried out since the discovery of flexoelectricity. Besides a common macroscopic (continuum) description the microscopic theory of flexoelectricity is also addressed. Electro-optic effects due to or modified by flexoelectricity as well as various (direct and indirect) measurement methods are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the role of flexoelectricity in pattern-forming instabilities. While the main focus of the book lies in flexoelectricity in nematic liquid crystals, peculiarities of other mesophases (bent-core systems, cholesterics, and smectics) are also reviewed. Flexoelectricity has relevance to biological (living) systems and can also offer possibilities for technical applications. The basics of these two interdisciplinary fields are also summarized.

Book Quantum Theory of Finite Systems

Download or read book Quantum Theory of Finite Systems written by Jean-Paul Blaizot and published by Mit Press. This book was released on 1986 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive and pedagogical account of the various methods used in the quantum theory of finite systems, including molecular, atomic, nuclear, and particle phenomena. Covering both background material and advanced topics and including nearly 200 problems, Quantum Theory of Finite Systems has been designed to serve primarily as a text and will also prove useful as a reference in research. The first of the book's four parts introduces the basic mathematical apparatus: second quantization, canonical transformations, Wick theorems and the resulting diagram expansions, and oscillator models. The second part presents mean field approximations and the recently developed path integral methods for the quantization of collective modes. Part three develops perturbation theory in terms of both time-dependent Feynman diagrams and time-independent Goldstone diagrams. A fourth part discusses variational methods based on correlated wavefunctions, including spin correlations. The approximation schemes are formulated for fermions and bosons at eigher zero or non-zero temperature. Although the formalism developed applies to both finite and infinite systems, the book stresses those aspects of the theory that are specific to the description of finite systems. Thus special attention is given to mean field approximations, the ensuing broken symmetries, and the associated collective motions such as rotations. Conversely, some specific features of systems with infinite numbers of degrees of freedom (such as the thermodynamic limit, critical phenomena, and the elimination of ultraviolet divergencies) are deliberately omitted. Jean-Paul Blaizot and Georges Ripka are associated with the Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Saclay.
