Book Aluminium Structural Design

Download or read book Aluminium Structural Design written by Frederico M. Mazzolani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of the book is the design of aluminium alloys structures. The subject is treated from different points of view, like technology, theory, codification and applications. Aluminium alloys are successfully employed in the transportation industry; A parallel trend has been observed in the last decades in civil engineering structures, where aluminium alloys compete with steel (long-span roofing, bridges, hydraulic structures, offshore superstructures). This volume collects the lectures of out-standing international experts, who are all involved in the codification activity of Eurocode 9 on Aluminium Structural Design. It illustrates, with particular reference to the fields of transportation and civil engineering, the basic design principles from the material properties and the technological aspects of their application, to the evaluation of the resistance of the structural elements (member and plates) under static, dynamic and fatigue loading conditions.

Book Aluminium Alloy Corrosion of Aircraft Structures

Download or read book Aluminium Alloy Corrosion of Aircraft Structures written by J. A. DeRose and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together the latest research, this book applies new modeling techniques to corrosion issues in aircraft structures. It describes complex numerical models and simulations from the microscale to the macroscale for corrosion of the aluminum (Al) alloys that are typically used for aircraft construction, such as AA2024. The approach is also applicable to a range of other types of structures, such as automobiles and other forms of ground vehicles. The main motivation for developing the corrosion models and simulations was to make significant technical advances in the fields of aircraft design (using current and new materials), surface protection systems (against corrosion and degradation) and maintenance. The corrosion models address pitting and intergranular corrosion (microscale) of Al alloys, crevice corrosion in occluded areas, such as joints (mesoscale), galvanic corrosion of aircraft structural elements (macroscale), as well as, the effect of surface protection methods (anodization, corrosion inhibitor release, clad layer, etc.). The book describes the electrochemical basis for the models, their numerical implementation, and experimental validation and how the corrosion rate of the Al alloys at the various scales is influenced by its material properties and the surface protection methods. It will be of interest to scientists and engineers interested in corrosion modeling, aircraft corrosion, corrosion of other types of vehicle structures such as automobiles and ground vehicles, electrochemistry of corrosion, galvanic corrosion, crevice corrosion, and intergranular corrosion.--
